It's all done by calculation. The rate of descent is known, the height the vehicle is at is known, and so is the mass of the rocket just before and just after it ejects the spent solid cartridge. Simply choosing the right cartridge with the needed impulse and burn time will give the desired retro burn.
@emiliotamayo325610 ай бұрын
In can imagine that he has calculated after many try outs the right amount of "fuel" and then somehow fit a timer that fires the second stage which took many calculations after many failures to get to the right amount of fuel vs weight and descent speed plus duration of burn out. Something like that 😂
@emiliotamayo325610 ай бұрын
It's repetition of trial and error plus math reducing the amount of fuel to burn until the fuel burns only for the desired amount of time.

Because gravity is an acceleration, so it feels really slow when you are close to zero velocity. For example if you drop something, and it’s in the air for 0.5 seconds, it will fall 1.25m, if its in the air for 1 second, it will fall 5m, and if it is in the air for 2 seconds, it will fall 20m(1m=3.3ft). So the object gets exponentially faster if you give it more time, and it gets exponentially slower if you give it less time/velocity.
@spvillano2 ай бұрын
@@Anonymous426_ for low altitude and velocities, yep, go higher and then one starts to get into the mud with aerodynamic forces to complicate what was at first straight kinematics. Orientation still is a bit of a challenge, but for the size and mass, gyros should suffice.

It is quite difficult especially in the case of massive rockets by different reasons. Observe that even in this small rocket model which is light and small it is difficult too. Observe that the base is intentionally heavier than the nose; apparently there is no wind blow and the altitude range is very small. Anyway it is a great amateur feat like the American Goddard in the past. The calculations of trust, vector, timing, acceleration, inertial lapse after trust cessation, fuel reserve of the two stages, etc etc were excellently done. Congrats. Brasil
