For me, the Ranger is the "everyday" swisschamp. It has all the normal tools I need in the smallest package.
@Mike-kc8rl Жыл бұрын
The Ranger is a great model with the later ones carrying all the backside tools! This model is almost the same as NASA gave to the astronauts back in the 70s ,that one was the master craftsman! Only difference was a backside Philips in place of the corkscrew!

The Ranger got me through 22 days of daily use while my Swisschamp was in the shop getting repaired. Great EDC knife to own.

Great tool. It has about 90% of the functionality of a Swiss Champ but only 60% the size.

I have a collection of saks which I chop and change for edc but I a gardener and I take a ranger to work everyday and I love it ❤

I have no problem carrying SAKs with 5, 6 layers thick. I don't find them heavy in the pocket at all. I think I just like them too much. The Ranger was one of my latest acquisitions and I'm considering the Handyman now, which is one layer wider, adding the pliers. I've pocked carried my Swisschamps many times too, although I have a pouch for them. Victorinox knives are the best.

Recently got one for myself. It will be my main outdoors SAK, so I switched the scales for trans blue ones to make it easier to find if I drop it in the woods. Pretty much perfect toolset for me, love this knife!

Congrats, nice find! I didn't think too much of it when I first got my Ranger, I got it as part of a bundle for a good deal, but it has really impressed me. Mainly because of its size vs the tool set offered as it is a 5 layer, but about as compact as most 4 layer SAKs (which is what I would consider about the limit for EDC pocket carry, albeit a bit on the heavy side). Anything bigger like a Cybertool34, Handyman, or Swisschamp does not go in my pocket, and to me takes that's the big appeal of the Ranger.

I forgot about that little chisel, it's actually pretty handy. I need to pick up another sak.

Happy Sunday & Congratulations Mark. I own 2 Rangers , one I use as part of my home tool kit ( Ranger, Deluxe Tinker, CyberTool M, Spartan Lite & 84mm Watch Opener ) It was bought new at a 30% discount in 2019 in a Spring Sale by my local Victorinox retailer, it has the Camping front scale & I replaced the back scale with a Plus one. On an impulse I bought a 2nd new one last year 2021 at a 50% discount when there was a Summer sale on, it was the plain red scale model in a clam pack & I have replaced the scales with SilverTech scales & it is now it my carry rotation as an "occasional carry". It is the largest 91mm model that I carry & I carry it in a jacket pocket or a bag if I am toting one , as its somehow simply to bulky for a pants pocket even though I might be carrying a Farmer X or 111mm knife like the Picnicker, Garant or Rucksack or a Flipper knife ( Eafengrow EF953 ) in my pants pocket ( all of which are bigger or bulkier than the Ranger so I guess its a psychological thing of having a 5 layer SAK! )

Great model. I have an older Ranger I picked up in switzerland during a trip in 1987. Doesn't have the package hook and is an older version of reamer and screwdriver on the back. I still think it's an almost perfect tool selection. Picked it as a teen and still like it a few decades later. Mostly carry a pioneer x these days for edc.

Just got one last week with the 'Camping' logo, $41.00 on ebay, brand new. I love my Swisschamp but it needs a sheath; this one is perfect for pocket carry. I love it, it has everything I need ❤

Had mine for about a year (bought it in Zürich last August 😁), it's been VERY handy for odd jobs around the house as well as while out & about. Made good use of both saw and file, no visible wear on either. I find the chisle a tad on the flimsy side though, it doesm't seem to hold an edge as well as I'd have thought it would. Perhaps I'm being too aggressive with it?
@thegamingmastermind2200 Жыл бұрын
the old foil is only good for hygiene.. but that's what I like about Victorinox .always improving

I like the file. I tend to use saw, blade, scissors, and reamer most but file is very handy away from home.

Victorinox is a good tool to have when travellimg. I would always have a Bantam or Spartan when travelling. When camping I will have my Sentinel and the Bantam as part of my food preparation tools......

So mad I got the deluxe tinker instead of this. Only thing the Swiss army pliers are good for is probably taking the hook out of a fish
@markcoffman4947 ай бұрын
That was one of the reasons why I got rid of my deluxe tinker. The pliers are great, but they’re very limited. I think the pliers on the Wenger pocket knives are a lot better. They actually separated multiple different sizes.

On the first hand, it was perfect. Then after I got a handyman which IMO is better. Maybe I guess I drink wine and through my experience, a flat screwdriver can do the job most of the time as well. Except if you got an inline philips that's a different story. And for me, you can do some other things too using the corkscrew. Nevertheless, the craftsman is still great and you can't be wrong on having one.
