I watch shows with the same format but from other countries, and up until now the UK dragons win on being the most smug, condescending and quick to personal attacks. Sure it's a bit of a part of this show's format, but in other countries they'll usually say "You've got enough stuff wrong and still has too much to learn, so I'm out" or something similar instead of trying to rub in their faces that they're a ridiculous failure or a horrible person.

@@DeAdBiGeYeFiSh That's actually what I love about the UK version. I first watched the Canadian version, when I started watching UK I was blown away by how harsh they are! I’m 50/50. I don’t think he was arrogant. But I do think he was inexperienced in running a business. His refusal to tell the Dragons his profit/loss in earlier years rings alarm bells that he might have been in massive debt before he even started this project. Which means the losses he accumulated for this project deepens the money hole even further. Quite a bit of the Dragon’s money would just have been used to repay some of the debts. That’s my personal observation anyway. As an investor the price of manufacturing is important because it helps to determine how long it’ll take to get your money back and also helps to identify if cost cuts can be made. A quarter of a million is a lot of money, it doesn’t just pop out of nowhere. So I understand why the dragons were offended when he refused to answer.

At the end of the day, Peter's perception of this man is what matters. While a tv show aspect does seem to give off this objective impression of the man to the audience simply for being a tv show, it's about making a deal with each individual dragon. If Peter feels like he needs more equity to put up with someone he doesn't like, then Peter can do that since this gentleman is coming on to ask him for his investment.

As Eddie said, the price he's charging for the product is based on it's perceived value, i.e. what people think it's worth. He's obviously concerned that disclosing the actual manufacturing costs on national TV may limit what he can charge / will impact future sales. Given that it's a start-up company with very few orders on the books, and from the sounds of his figures a reasonable amount of debt, I can understand where he's coming from. It may have been naive to initially refuse to give the figures (which he did later realise and apologise for) but it was not rude, arrogant or insulting.

@@susanwaugh3885 there's always two sides to a story, so always remember that before you judge. There's a reason why not every deal done on TV goes through in reality, it's called due diligence. Perhaps James Caan saw a stinker when he looked at the full accounts 😉
@susanwaugh38854 жыл бұрын
Ali H Ali the deal did go through but just not what it was meant to be! I know about dual diligence. Read up on what actually happened to Sharon Wright, then by all means come back and comment if you wish. They (Duncan and James) took this woman for a ride giving her the false impression they were going to give her the money themselves, however it was given to her in the form of loan by a company called Electro Expo who had sold a stake in the company to the two dragons. You would need to read up to understand the full story as their is a lot more to it. This woman had a fantastic product, had contracts with BT and Schneider, she was and is very credible, and all 5 dragons were really impressed with her. So no, you’re not fully understanding what actually happened. Watch her pitch here on you tube and read the actual story online and what they did to her after their verbal agreement in the den. They left the poor woman very ill. Oh and did I mention Caan has done this before to someone else? Promising money from his own pocket and it coming in the form of loans from someone else?? Well he has and it’s all online. 😊
