Awesome vid man! I had a bluefish take my rod over and drag it around down the navarre pier and bite someone else's bait and i got my rod back, but my reel was trashed. Was a great story tho

That's a great story!! I lost my ultra light rig to a Carp yesterday!! LOL I did NOT get my rod back!
@larrytischler5703 жыл бұрын
Use a conventional reel with a decent bait clicker and set the drag lightly enough to hook the fish. Tie the rod to the rail with a cord through a harness lug or a ring in the rod clamp. Dont have real salt water tackle? Get some. These are fighting fish.

I served as suf fishing guide for my daughter in Panama City beach Sunday morning. Glad I still had my north face jacket in the truck for my daughter. BTW, waterlands allowed me to see the 32”+ redfish swimming within 50’ of shore inless than waist deep water. Small piece of shrimp finally get it in on last cast of the day. Her first time surf fishing

Back in 84 when I was fishing off the piers in Southern California, I never used lures, strictly bait fishing. I used 30 to 40 pound mono main line and often a steel leader. We had guys with nets and I had a rope gaff but these where never needed unless you caught something really heavy. Which off those piers was unlikely. I do envy you, I'm in Wyoming and I still fish, but for trout and maybe catfish or carp, but that's about it. Have a good one. P.S. we often used Penn level wind conventional reels of one sort or another. And of course heavy rods.

Rose lenses work best for those days when the sky is somewhat hazey and the water is clear. They make it much easier to see a fish to hook or land when looking toward the sun in those conditions. Blue or green are for clear sky days.

We tried Cobia on a cruise, several years ago. (And loved it.) Their menu called it Black Salmon. I asked the foreign waiter, what fish it actually was, since there is no such salmon. (You can't B.S. any real angler, about their fish!) After a minute, he replied that it was Cobia. We tried it, and even my wife loved it too! Not sure when they are in season, but I would definitely be keeping those good eats! 🐟😁

Cobia are so cool and powerful. I fought one and the only one I’ve ever tangled with for 45 minutes being dragged for 2.2 miles on the gps. Not net and no gaff on the boat and just eventually opened up the hole that hook was in and came off. Had it up to the boat several times. #15 test is too light to fight a 45+ inch one

Cobia are one of my all time favorites to catch and eat. They fight. And taste great! Hopefully you'll get to catch more and eat one. Get there early, at sunrise, and use live bait for kings. I never caught them past 8 or 9, they seem to bite early.

@comfortablynumb93423 жыл бұрын
@@royvincent9250 true, they will bite just before dark too. I never caught them like that because we took the boat out early to avoid the wind chop so I was rarely offshore in the evening. I've caught 2 cobia at night, but never a kingfish.
