For the sake of honestly I want to mention that its belatedly occurred to me that some of the spelling and grammar mistakes in this book might have been due to faulty letter recognition software when this book was scanned and converted into PDF form (so not necessarily Mystery's error). If I were in charge of digitising this drivel I don't think I'd bother proof reading it either.

Here’s how to actually get a relationship, at least what an autistic guy created 1 find a common interest 2 talk about that common interest 3 find other common interests 4 talk about those common interests 5 find a common interest in each other 6 talk about your common interest in each other, decide what type of relationship works best with your combined common interests Most strangers can get to 4, then never see each other again. That’s okay. You had a nice conversation with someone. If you want a relationship, keep trying with some other people. You get friendship at 5 At 6 you may either get a deeper friendship, a romantic relationship or possibly something else. If you are looking for something they’re not, repeat steps 1-6 with OTHER PEOPLE. Be kind to everyone as an overarching rule.

@@riotgrrrl8807 Alternatively, a guy wanted to be more than friends upon first meeting, and she wasn't ready for that, but liked him. He may feel disappointed in being in the friend zone, but he'll stay there in the hopes of one day her changing her mind. This isn't inherently wrong, so long as he doesn't cross behavioral lines--nor does she. Those lines for him would be getting aggressive after continuously asking her to change her mind, being hostile and giving the silent treatment when she gets a new boyfriend, only being kind when she's single. Those lines for her primarily consist of knowing he'd do anything to be with her, and MAKING him do all sorts of things under the guise of flirtation/the idea that maybe she's changing her mind, only to then be like, "Wow, I'm so glad we're friends!" after making him go out of his way. All of these things are emotionally abusive. He might pout at first when in the friend zone initially, but if he comes back from it and remains consistently chill otherwise, I don't care if he still has aspirations of being together. That's the best way TO earn my trust, personally, because it means he has emotional control and maturity.

Tbf it is a problem. Not because being friends with a woman is bad thing IF THAT IS WHAT YOU'RE AFTER. But when you are aiming for something else than friendship, you are in it for the wrong reasons, which hurts the relationship in the long term. Its like going to a hockey game and ending up watching football. Not inherently wrong but certainly not what you intented. As such thereshould be no stigma for rejecting the football game. Nor is it wrong to have a good time wathing football and keep going to more football games. Its just unfair to assume football is acceptable subtitude for hockey every time.

Some random guy tried to "tether" me to him by asking me to hold his jacket. I responded by explaining that I am not, in fact, a coat rack and helped him hang it on his chair. Being as I was the designated driver for my group, I couldn't just leave to get away from the guy, and he did try several more things. I just settled for responding to his advances with a loud "go away" or "get your hands off me". That was enough to alert others in the area that his behavior was unwelcome, and after 5-6 times, he was kicked out.

Cool story about how you rejected a guy. What an ego boost it must have been for you, and now a second time, to write it on the internet! But don't pretend like you know what a difficult concept like "nagging" is if you don't even know its name (its negging, not naggin, fyi), let alone that you can identify if it was being used on you. But good for your ego that you wrote it down here.

The whole section on finding a target and telling them an amazing story cracked me up. One of my friends and I met her husband at a bar when he came over, and mentioned that he thought he had bought taco shell holders from her a couple days ago. That was his opening line, she worked at a home goods store so it was plausible, but even if it hadn't been it got us talking to him. After a few minutes of chatting he left his number, and then left us alone. He got a call back from my friend to whom he'd primarily been speaking to because he was goofy and he left us alone to enjoy our girls night without the annoying douchey presence of an overly eager man. 10 years and 3 kids later they're happily married and how they met is a fun, harmless story.

I feel like its a legit way of society or of people for raising people and keeping them in check. What kinda actions are punished in what way is a different amd complicated disscussion. Some personal advice for all of my fellow guys out there: If you are ever out with women you know at just about any place you can think of, and a guy like this approaches them, and the women dont want him around but he also doesnt leave... INTERVENE! Go up to them and change the topic, ask them to come out for a cigarette (even if they or you dont smoke), or if you're already there when the guy comes up and starts doing his shabang, do tell him to fuck off after a while. These guys dont value women AT ALL. Sure, some of them may back off if a woman tells them to, but the logical conclusion of what these books are teaching is to never, EVER take no for an answer. On the other hand, many of them will be compelled to at the very least listen to you if you intervene. SO DO IT!

Now, when you look at 4:46, while "Mystery" did not literally write "Don't take no for an answer", he does advise to just disregard a signal to stop. Same with Token Resistance earlier. Whether or not said resistance is fake to not get Slut-shamed doesn't even matter. I'm quite baffled how some people second guess a simple "No" so much. As soon as you just disregard that notion or feeling of "Maybe we should stop", down the slippery slope to non-consensual you go. To be fair, I think being non-average just makes life harder in general. I say this because both my friend and me has problems that we actually relate to despite being complete opposites, I am not a good looking man in most ways and my friend was an amazingly beautiful woman, despite that, we still (mostly) share the same struggles. An example is being given attention for the wrong reasons, whenever I am near someone and I show some interest in talking about topics about relating with someone (especially a girl) I am seen as a creep, whenever she does the same thing, she is seen as suddenly developing an interest in them and people (especially the boys) keeps teasing her for it and/or even wanting to date her for it despite the fact that she already has a girlfriend. Believe it or not, I think these struggles are more or less similar to a certain extent, if people don't think you are being creepy, they start being creepy themselves. I think the fact that we have this weird thing as a culture should be frowned upon, but a lot of people (not most but a lot) still has this weird 80's mindset of how society works.

When I was in college, I actually did have a fair amount of luck when it came to courting women. I did it by doing the exact opposite of what this book tells you do. I was kind, treated women with respect, actually listened to them, found things we had in common, actually developed a bond with them, and pretty much just directly asked them if they had the same feelings for me as I did them. This actually mystified some of my dorm mates because they didn't really know much about picking up women other than "Hey, baby. You, like, wanna do it?". Sure, I've had my fair share of rejection, but who doesn't? But after they've made it clear that they don't want to do anything of that nature, I respect their wishes and I don't pursue the issue any further. Simply doing that alone has earned me a lot of friends over the years. A little bit of respect can go a long way. Contrast my classmate from the same college who actually had this book and used its "advice" to try to pick up women and failed each and every time. In fact, one time he asked me to be his wingman, he actually scored me a date because I felt so bad for this woman he tried so hard to pick up. All his persistence earned him was a slap on the face and getting tossed out by the bouncer. I apologized to her about his behavior (because who else would have?) and explained the whole thing with that accursed book, bought her a drink, and we spent the rest of the night laughing about how pathetic he was. Fun fact: that guy actually went to jail on harassment charges to the surprise of absolutely no one.

So ... abuse the person until they do what you want and tell yourself that what you are doing is selfless and really you're the one who is suffering. This is exactly the mindset abusers have. This is why children, family, lovers, friends, nations are damaged, because someone thought that compliance was more important than personhood, that obeying is love and respect and that in their reality, they're the martyr, they're doing everyone a service by being who they are. That's more and more terrifying the more you understand it. And yes, there are many many Mystery's out there. Most of them don't know it or worse, are so messed up that even when it's obvious, they still can't see it. You can add a trigger warning for more than sexual harassment. This is also just classic extremely damaging gaslighting and emotional abuse flat out. Total tangent about behavioral training in animals and to some extent humans in which you can't communicate to, like babies: With regards to animal training, it's actually not true. It's far more important to do redirect bad behavior, not punish. IE you dog, cat, heck, even child does something they are not supposed to (and in the case of children, I'd only advocate this in children who can't communicate at all) redirect them to something they can do. Kitty playing with something they aren't supposed to? Find something similar that stimulates them. Not this, but this. Punishment doesn't work on most creatures and needs to be doled out in a way if it's ever needed so that it's a direct almost instantaneous backlash preferably from the environment. Spanking, yelling, derisive behavior, passive aggressiveness etc do NOT WORK and they are abuse. You don't touch the hot stove, because it will burn you, not because someone said no. So long as no one is in any serious danger, let the environment dole out the punishment if redirection doesn't work, which rarely does that happen. Making something like chewing cords, getting on the table etc unappealing as well as environmentally punishing (two sided safe for animals tape on the kitchen counter. The smell of lemon or bitter apple - The automatic air puffs that go off and startle them away from an area they should not be in) along with giving an alternative. Your cat keep getting up on the table? Try to think of why. Don't assume any creature ever does something to upset/annoy you. Instead, think "maybe he wants to see what I'm doing, wants to feel at my level, because cats naturally don't like the ground, being prey and predator" and bring over a chair of a similar level to sit on and watch you. You cat is not sitting on your keyboard as you watch youtube to upset you or make you annoyed. Your cat is doing that because they are mimicking you. They want to be apart of what you are doing. Best thing to do, get a fake key board in a spot next to you they can lounge on. They are trying to be apart of your world, as well as close to you. It's actually a form of empathy. Punishment is stupid and doesn't faking work and I hate that even someone as low level of a person as Mystery still keeps the old addages of how to train dogs when not only are they horrendously wrong, but they're actually abusive and don't work, even to a dog, let alone a full adult human being. The f**k.

Being friends...what horror.... My husband and I started off as friends, Guess what. When you start off as friends, you aren't worried about showing off just your good sides. You get to know each other flaws and all when you aren't worried about trying to look perfect. We didn't get to know each other with even a future relationship in mind. He was married, I was dating someone. He and his then-wife split up (and we're all friends now), my then-boyfriend and I broke up, and we both confided in the same friend that we were interested in the other, but didn't want to ruin our friendship by saying so since what if the feeling wasn't returned. Joel decide to break the ice since he knew the attraction was mutual. Six weeks later, we were living together (this required my now-husband making a big move), and now it's been something like 13 years. What a shitty thing, that zone of being friends.... What sort of good relationship could possibly have friendship as part of it?

@@fortunatecookie As someone who was in that kind of mindset in highschool, that is a gross oversimplification of what it's actually like. Your initial reason to approach is out of attraction to the person. They interest you, you want to know more about them, but you approach the matter with the express purpose of eventually dating. The friendzone is a terrible thing when you're in that mindset because of the attraction, more or less. You're left attracted to someone who you have full knowledge isn't into you, and the point of the friendzone as an idea is that you *don't* get out of it, you just stay there. Now I was a highschool sophomore at the time, and since grew out of that. But that being said, I never really understood how almost nobody looks at it beyond a sexual thing, or is it just because the conversation is usually only about adults.

@@zashgekido5616 I don't get this. Is it like a fixation or something? Because when I was in high school there were several people I approached _specifically_ because I was very attracted to them and was turned down, but I was just like "OK, worth a shot" and still hung out with them afterward. One of them I had evem fantasized about being in a relationship for _months_ before asking her out. I was definitely disappointed when she said "just friends," but after licking my wounds for like a week I was still able to chat with her and hang out.
