Erdrick is strictly a Dragon Quest reference. His mention in Final Fantasy is an Easter egg for Dragon Quest, although the Japanese version of Final Fantasy had the gravestone say Link instead of Erdrick. I’ve also heard that the grave for Erdrick is in the Japanese version of Zelda II in Saria town but was taken out for the American version until Hoverbat put it back in.

"This is so fun to play!" Man, it's also so fun to watch. What I'm really loving on this channel lately are these reimaginings... taking childhood NES-era games and just tweaking, flipping, adding, and polishing juuuuuust a smidge so that the original game's look and feel shines through but we still have SO much exciting new content to explore. The little touches in this version are amazing (the little graphical changes like Bagu's hut looking so nice, the trophy on the pedestal), and having the map be so familiar yet with so many "wait THAT wasn't there before" spots is such a treat. And I appreciate the old-school Zelda II skills on display. Next ep can't drop soon enough!
@_Nyx_9 ай бұрын
When a mob drops items is NOT random. Every 6 mobs defeated always drops either the potion or xp bag. Weak mobs are blue or 50 xp, stronger mobs are red potion or 200xp This means metroid style mob grinding for magic refills (or health with the healing spell) is actually very viable and super easy in dungeons! At least in the OG version, dunno for sure with this remake to be fair. Also, I am definitely another Zelda 2 stan, one of my favs to go back and play.
@Retro_Rainer9 ай бұрын

11:06 Zelda II is one of those games that is horribly hampered by the system it's on. Of any game in the franchise, this one needs a remake most of all. Modern controls, expanded combat options, quality of life features, and a sword that isn't 2 pixels long would go a LOOOOONG way to making this game better.
@John-bj1zx9 ай бұрын

Honestly, yeah it does need a remake. I never cared for it because of its limitations and if it can be improved then I'd probably play it.
@fizz5769 ай бұрын
I agree it is a flawed game, but what flaws are caused due to system limitations?
@jaretco64239 ай бұрын
@fizz576 The fact you have to start back in Hyrule Castle and go back to where you left off instead of starting back in the beginning of the dungeon like you can in the first Zelda games surprisingly or towns you visited is what's limited. That and it also has many annoyance that games like Castlevania or Ninja Gaiden suffered from back on the NES; like the awkwardly controls, repetitive combat, unbalanced spells, knockback, poorly platforming design, cheap placements and other unfair difficulty.

I love that change to the 1-up dolls in this. The main strategy I used to use to play this on the NES was to not actually crystal the palaces until the end of the game, make sure i had 3 lives, THEN marathon completing the palaces, grabbing the dolls, then go to the end with like 12+ lives since if you're max level, any level-ups would give you a life instead. Really glad you don't have to do that, but also curious what happens when you get a level when maxed out in this.

A lot of them seem to have little patience for its mechanics, which is a real shame given how in-depth the combat was for a 1987 game. Funny thing is, I didn’t even learn of the crouching jump-stab trick until YT let’s plays, mastering the combat mechanics was just too much fun for me.

@@Zeburaman2005 it’s something I’ve learned after just playing the game so many times. I agree the game is challenging but I don’t think it’s badly designed or unfair like some poor shmuck might think… cough Tophat gaming man cough

There's no such thing as a crouching jump stab, it's just a jump with a stab the moment you fall down in to range of the enemies head (even works while High Jumping). Edit: I was wrong, there is crouch stabbing. The exploit is the same though, make your attack connect with the top of the shielded enemy during your descent and you'll always hit them before they block. Crouching can be used to slow you down quicker so that you don't run in to the enemy by accident but it has no bearing on the jumping and stabbing.

@@Nicholas_Steel Look at the animation, he's clearly using the crouching stab, but in the air, and can happen regardless of rising or falling.

I love Zelda 2. It might be my favorite Zelda game. Tied with OoT for me. Nice to see someone else into it.

Palaces don’t turn to stone in this version so you can go back and get stuff you missed like the heart container or the orange slime.

Something about Jared and Zelda games that just go so well together!

I THINK that mountain path with a broken bridge on the trophy town may be passable with the downward stab? Never played this version and did not get far on the switch virtual console yet

Now that PJ is playing ZaLiA, I'm really ready for daily uploads again! Or, I could come over for "dudes to be dudes" and he could be distracted for the next 6-8 weeks.... I do have a letter from Bagu..
