It's trying to tell how saying to someone they are "talented" is not always a compliment because people in the case of art for example just assume that they were good at it even tho that person worked really hard for it. It's about hard work and passionate feelings, overcoming self hatred and doing things that make you happy

Blue Period is the closest thing to the feeling of being an artist that I've seen represented in anime. It's absolutely genius how different scenes and shots all encapsulate what Yaguchi is feeling, and how surprisingly, you can relate to it.

Blue Period scares me, because I relate to the main character. In no way am I a prodigy, but I've been able to accomplish most things by putting in time, effort or pretending to fit. But I've never found anything that excites me. I keep trying new things and expanding my horizons, but there is nothing I want to dedicate my life or time to. My parter is easily excitable, I surprised her with a bottle of freshly squeezed juice for her to take to work the other day, and she basically danced out the door. When we first met, I thought she was putting on an act to show me she appreciated the effort I put in to make her happy, but she just genuinely is a bubbly excitable person. It both makes me happy and sad, happy she enjoys life so much, sad that I have no idea how to do more than pretend to be excited. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy and content, just at a loss when it comes to extremes in emotions.

Yeah, haven't read the manga but I've been enjoying the Blue Period anime a lot. I like the conversations between characters when they share their different struggles and outlooks on art. (Not to spoil anything for those who haven't read/watched, but that scene in episode 7 when the MC and his friend were talking at the ramen shop, just, powerful.)

so the thing about Assclass season 2 being rated higher than other shows like Mob Psycho has to do with the new season biases. People who didn't enjoy the first seasons likely wouldn't go on to watch the later ones, so each new season has an easier time getting higher and higher ratings because it's mostly only the people who enjoy it watching and rating.

Indeed. MAL ratings can be fairly useful if you know how to adjust them. Like sports anime basically get an entire free point, shonen anime gets like .7 or .8 for free. S2 removes basically all the low ratings because those people didn't bother to watch S2 so it'll affect different series differently but always be a boost. Yaoi either loses an extra half point if it's bad or gains an extra point if it's ok. Yuri loses like half a point.

Honestly, I prefere Blue Period manga because it captures more the emotions and struggles that characters face. I feel like the animation of the anime is a bit weird, and the producers may have cut/rushed too many scenes that I think are important for the context in order to be fully emerged in the story and to be attached with the characters.

Blue period is easliy anime of the season, possibly anime of the year and after reading the manga I seriously can't believe how good it actually is. It somehow captures the essence of passion, hard work, doubt, talent, the fear of failure, everything that anyone with a passion has dealt with more beutifully than any other anime or manga I've seen. I loved the first season and that part of the manga but it seriously grows to a new level after that. Sakurasou is one of my favorite anime of all time and I've never really seen a show that does what Sakurasou does until I read Blue period. They're not really the same type of show and they explore a lot of different things but I related with the main characters in similiar ways. Trying is hard, it's scary, but when you don't try the world is grey and still. Trying is like jumping from a cliff in hopes of learning to fly before hitting the ground. It's terrifying, but learning to fly is the only thing really worth living for, and after reading blue period so far, I'll take that jump any day. No matter how little talent I have, no matter how slim my chances, I'll keep on trying.

At this point, I just look at the posters for the seasonal anime line-up, find the one that will be the most memorable show that's never going to get a second season, and have that be the only new thing I watch. Even if there are better shows out, when it comes to recent ones I already know I'll forget about them sooner or later, so why not have the most unique experience instead? In Spring, I did that with Odd Taxi. In Summer, it was Sonny Boy. And in Autumn, I'll be watching Heike Monogatari.

You know what? We're in the same wavelength. I just couldn't find an explanation on why I prefer underrated/underwatched quality shows rather than the popular ones, but now I think you summed it up for me. We pretty much have the same list for the past seasons, but I'm currently enjoying Ousama Ranking this season and I'm also considering finally watching Heike sooner than later. @@Lazer-bp9lf vivy was pretty overrated imo because tappei and wit were working on it. I thought it wad pretty cool but the beginning was pretty eh for me and the ending was a beautifully directed mess with an unnecessary open ended resolution. Odd taxi was consistent all around. Every bit of dialogue had info that kept your eyes glued to the screen and the characters are just better written and more fleshed out, but that's because vivy happened in like 100 years while odd taxi happened in less than a month.
