Nice! Planaria are a real pain. Next time you could also just use fenbendazole products like panacur C which are cheaper and just as effective as no planaria.
@IslandFishkeeping9 күн бұрын
Ok amazing sounds good! Thank you for sharing that. I tried to opt for a more natural way as no planaria is just beetlenut, but I’m stoked there are more options!

I had issues with worms in my tanks and as soon as I got some Corys, they all went away! The corys actively sift through the substrate.

What incredible footage. Where do you think the planaria came from? Plants?
@IslandFishkeeping3 күн бұрын
Thank you very much! Yes I believe they came from some plants I collected from a pond. Moral of the story, always check for hitch hikers!

if you didn't notice the worms right away i guarantee you barely look at your tank....they're very obvious
@IslandFishkeeping4 күн бұрын
Yeah, I mentioned it briefly in the video, but I wasn’t sure if they were harmful or not until I saw them eating the shrimp in person. There are some flatworms that can be found in aquariums that are not harmful to shrimp and so I was trying to determine if these were them. Trust me, I watched that tank every evening😂🫠
@Grausel5 күн бұрын
To be honest, the planaria look cute.
@IslandFishkeeping5 күн бұрын
I actually have to agree with you. If my shrimp weren’t at risk I would probably leave them!
@Heistongoemon9 күн бұрын
I had that problem, my mistake was overfeeding, i reduced food and they disappear, it took around 2 months
@terrascaper9 күн бұрын
@@Heistongoemon similar situation for me, they were still present in the tank but never became problematic, plus they're fascinating in their own way.
@IslandFishkeeping9 күн бұрын
Ok wow super interesting observation. I didn’t think to try that. I kept feeding pretty high because I wanted to see the shrimp numbers grow fast however with that the mothers were being targeted, probably because they were slower, so I didn’t want to take any chances!
@IslandFishkeeping9 күн бұрын
Yes, I have to admit they are quite interesting, especially when you know they are one of the oldest families of organisms and how they work. However, they definitely have their time and place haha!

I had planaria too. I think I picked them up from a LFS nerite or plant. FWIW, no planaria solved my issue too. I’ve resolved to quarantine plants and snails now with prazipro, which seems to work great as a medicine and preventative treatment, but not one post “infestation”.

How did those worms get into your tank?
@IslandFishkeeping5 күн бұрын
The most likely way was from cross contamination from water and plants that I got from a pond. If you do end up collecting wild plants. Just make sure that they have no hitchhikers!
