I was wondering who bought those blanks! Awesome! I’m the proud owner of the other body blank. I put knobs, a switch, and barrel jack on mine and I’m planning on hanging it as wall decoration.
@pepmasters-9998 ай бұрын
The blanks are part of the history of the process of making the map guitar. As such, I'd keep them as they are. Maybe use them as a template on another piece of wood if you want to make a project guitar, but these deserve to be relics in your museum as they are, alongside the finished product.

That's an awesome ending on that anniversary strat! Happy to see a story where a loved guitar returns to the original family who first purchased it.

We are all super connected now with the Internet. Those cool stories wouldn’t have happened really even 20 years ago. I actually saw an old Rickenbacker I sold 20 years ago halfway across the country on Reverb.

If you decide to do something with the unrouted map body, may I suggest making a one-of-a-kind bass guitar? Putting on an SG 30.5" scale bass neck should balance better with the guitar-sized body. You could get the flaws filled and have an ebony finish put on to hide them.

I don’t think you should “process” them/finish the body blanks. But you now have a blanke that you could use as an accurate 1:1 to have your own made for you. That way you get both and preserve your original blanks as well

I'm a collectaholic, so I love these episodes To me the choice is obvious, keep the Maudie one, because, well, Maudie, and mod the already routed one. I think you should have it painted with all 50 states, with the state border lines, just like a map. It would be a total custom job that would cost some serious $$$. But you would have a one off that could become very valuable. Especially if you sent it to Gibson Custom shop to build it out.
@marthastewwart8 ай бұрын
It's a bit hard to tell, but it looks like those 2 maps don't look the same. The pancake one's Florida is shaped differently than the nonpancake one (again, from what I could tell) . You should stack on top of each other and see if they match perfectly. If they don't, then it's probably safe to assume the nonpancake one was more of a personal project. Just a thought.

I'd absolutely turn that routed one into a working guitar. You might have trouble finding an appropriate neck, but that's a no-brainer for a good luthier. Honestly, I'd go to the MyLesPau/luthiers forum and see who bites. There are some amazingly talented dudes there. Bound body would be amazing, but hella expensive. But definitely turn it into YOUR guitar. The other one I'd get nicely finished and turned into a plaque for the Maps section of the museum.
