I drove a Penske moving my grandkids and their mother to Laredo about 12 years ago. Truck was same size and loaded to the roof. Was a FordChassis w/ V-10 gasoline engine. It got 10 mpg as well and rode very well. Several years earlier moved father-in-law from Wichita, KS, little bit smaller box, but was pulling a van on trailer as well, with a diesel U-Haul. Was lucky to make it up any grade without rolling backward, drank diesel like all get out, and sooted everything behind it. Best of luck settling in to the new digs.

I used to do concerts and we'd rent second truck from Penske, They were great for price service and a modern, maintained fleet. Never rent from "scrU-haul". The only thing I didn't like was the newer International's computer controlled automatic shift transmission where it's basically a manual that the computer shifts for you. They always want to accelerate full throttle and go through the gears because the clutch won't engage until you press the accelerator and bring up the revs. Well that's fine on the road, but say you're maneuvering in a tight place or you want to creep back to a loading dock, what then? You have to goose it and smash the brake in time before you crash into the dock. Use load bars 'cause your cargo is going to move. So much for careful gentle driving. I always preferred the manual shift ones for control but they are getting rare in the rental market.

Never underestimate the $500 beater. Bought an 87 Crown Vic wagon back in 2004 for 500 bucks ... all it needed to pass inspection was new brake shoes on the rear drums. Cost me 38 bucks to replace. Ran great for years, even had remote start for Canadian winters! Loved that car. That 302 got a solid 30mpg on the highway ... floating along like riding on a couch. Great car, and I was worried it was a junker for the price. Turns out the guy really just didn't want a 4th car in the driveway. Lucky for me, station wagons aren't super popular - but I love 'em!

Hey Scotty my name is Brian Shuler. I've watched your channel ever since I was a kid in Jr high. I grew up and graduated from Channelview, just a few miles east of where you used to live. I soon moved to Crosby and my senior year. I have always wanted to meet you and tell you how much I appreciate your help and what you do. I live in San Antonio now but drive to Crosby to visit my parents when I get a chance. I finally found out where you lived and was planning on one day contacting you just to see if I could get a picture with you. It would have been nice having internet 20 years ago to look you up maybe then I would have gotten that chance to actually meet you. But I don't blame you for wanting to get out of Houston. I hope you and your family are happy with the move and don't have any regrets. At least you'll have a great scenery. Tennessee is beautiful went to Graceland on vacation a while back. I hope the best for you and I still would like to shake the man's hand who taught me all the inn's & out's on vehicles. Thank you Scotty, much respect. Your #1 fan, Brian Shuler.
