@Dan Trebune I have a friend in Oregon looking for somewhere nice but he doesn't drive. I'll recommend him the area on the office chance he doesn't mind walking. Also, that doesn't negate my point. I have everything I need within a 3 min walking distance from my place at most in NYC. Additionally I have a variety of options to buy from, not just one big store shared by an entire small community. The money lost in rent is made up in other ways. It's all about people's priorities. I'd prefer to pay a bit more in rent to save time and costs in driving or car maintance at this point of my life, lol.

Okay, this is like the NYC apartment you dream about when you are a teenager and want to escape. I am positive I could write a novel starring this apartment and it’s past, my ghosts would be the friendly kind that will not make you freak out. I love the spiral staircase, but that overhead loft would be for storage. This is a classic, not totally renovated set of spaces that you could make look so amazing and cozy. We had a basement bedroom in our second place and it was dark, quiet and cool in summer. I would make the basement the bedroom and cover one wall in removable wallpaper in a classic design, add floor length curtains, a antique headboard, dresser and a cozy chair, all on an area rug. The kitchen might be an afterthought, but add a microwave on top of the fridge and a rolling island for a workspace and it will do nicely. I would love to have a folding screen to hide the kitchen from guests. I would choose a leaf table from IKEA as the space for it would be limited. If you are a design student or you are working in design, making over this apartment, without major renovations, would be an amazing project to showcase your skills.

@paulyd82913 жыл бұрын
@@kilobyte8321 by no means was I implying that physical disabilities should take priority. As someone who lives in NYC I was just noting that a majority of the city is off limits to us (i.e. only 135/475 metro stations are ada complient (both physical, sensory, brain injuries, etc). @@nikolai3620 Great question---most of the apartments in NYC are built before the passage of the ADA (1990) & The Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 , many of which are even "pre-war"---meaning that landlords are not legally obligated to retrofit their building for individuals with disabilities (grandfather clause). All new buildings must be ADA complient, however, these new units go for outrageous rent prices that a vast majority of us can't afford. We see more and more individuals with disabilities being integrated into society/ doctors, lawyers, bankers, entrepreneurs, artists, etc., yet we face a persistent housing crisis.

I didn't realize how badly I wanted to move into a closet sized apartment in New York City until I started watching your videos daily. what is the amount of money you think an individual should have saved up if they want to move to New York City without a job lined up?
@KokuTV3 жыл бұрын
With *no* job lined up? What's your industry? I can say that for as expensive as NYC is, there's a lot more opportunity to make money in a gig economy, so the most ambitious can make it happen. Not injecting my opinion on whether or not you should do this, but I'd say I wouldn't try this with less than $5,000 in my pocket.

@@immanuelsuleiman7550 You'll find steady work much easier than most. I'd imagine in most cases you can transfer remotely, so I'd plan to secure something before I relocated. On the lower end? You can enjoy NYC on $50K/yr. Struggle meals, but good times. To be truly comfortable, & want for nothing, not have to penny-pinch? I'd not take an offer under $95K/yr. Keep your rent under $2,000/mo regardless of income is my best advice.

To live in ny you should always have atleast 8months-year worrh of rent saved because you have to pay first month rent last month rent and security thats 3 months rent right there. Also the cost of living so high i would say have 10-15k saved

I am always wondering about these lofts- even to use as a storage area, how do you carry things up and down this steep ladder even if you are a mountain climber?

I really enjoy your apartments available in N.Y tours. U are gifted in your craft! If I was looking to relocate back to N.Y where I was born, u impressed me with nice real estate.

You're right! If I want to see what's in the bookcase, I would have to back up so far that I would fall down the spiral stairs.

I would never live in a city, but that studio is very unique. Combined with the building being old makes it so cool. Your quirkiness makes these videos interesting. 👍🏻👍🏻

I was going to say only a very fit and agile person could live here, but then I saw the second bathroom downstairs and was like okay, a person actually could sleep down there. I don't know why this isn't considered a one bedroom?

Isn't it weird? That downstairs unit at one time was it's own place!

I believe it’s because there’s no door to close off the downstairs.

Wow😲 I was pleasantly surprised with this apartment. 1.5 baths, closet's and more closet's , + the overhead loft/storage!! If I could afford it and lived in NYC instead of CT I would be trying to rent that apartment asap!! Needless to say... I'm loving this pre-war studio/apartment!!
