A couple things. I still don't know how to pronounce IQUNIX. I've heard it said as "I-Q-Unix" and "i-Qunix," and then there's whatever weird way I said it lol. SPOILERS BELOW! ONLY CLICK AFTER WATCHING THE VIDEO! I actually like the Vissles V84 keyboard the more I look at it. It's got a nice, sturdy feel to it. The form factor is perfect. The look - without the backlight - is very clean. But I still don't like the lighting. It's much more prominent than that of the L80, even though they're similar. The way it kind of shines onto the side of the keys is what makes it look tacky. Whereas the L80 has similar lighting, but it moreso appears underneath the keys which just has a cleaner look. And the final thing is regarding the AbkonCore... I've decided to keep it near my back door in case I have to whack a burglar over the head with it. Correction: MKBHD uses the K2, not the K3.

Glad you went for one of the Iqunix. As much as I love Keychron and the other 2 brands for being great budget friendly enthusiast keyboards, Iqunix has them beat. They are pretty much one of the few brands that have prebuilts that match the same quality as custom keyboards for the most part. Always try to stay away from gaming/big brands as much as you can because the quality really doesn't match the price they charge especially with brands like Keychron being cheaper, offering lubed stabs in some models, and pbt doubleshot keycaps as the standard.

Just a correction the Keychron K3 does not use Cherry MX switches, you can get it with either Gateron Low Profile Mechanical Switches or Keychron Low Profile Optical Switches which is what you have there, both options are completely different from Cherry's offerings and are not compatible with each other. You can only use Kyechron Low Profile Optical's on your keyboard.

Forrest I think you would LOVE custom mechanical keyboards as you seem like a big DIY kind of person. They can get a bit pricey of course, but I think your issues with the design of the one that you chose, alongside wanting a specific sound and feel, can really be diagnosed through the hobby's extensive amount of designers creating keyboards to their own likings and holding group preorders. I personally took a little bit to find one that I wanted to join a buy for and really put the time and effort to modify and create my own personalized typing experience, and I'm happy that I did. Yes, it was an expensive purchase and it definitely isn't "worth the money" per say (in terms of my return of investment) but it was a fun experience to put together and learn about the different parts, and it really does add to my day a lot especially during long coding sessions by bringing that little bit of joy that a luxury item can bring.

Just a note, the Keychron keyboards don't use Cherry switches. Maybe yours came with Cherry switches, but at least on their website they're either Gateron or an inhouse Keychron switch. Thank you for putting this together though!

I have a key-binding so that when I hold cmd+left_ctrl, the u, i, p keys become 7, 8, 9; the j, k, l keys become 4, 5, 6; and the n, m, . keys become 1, 2, 3. And space bar is 0. Other thing I want to point out is that my left_ctrl itself is mapped to the caps_lock key, but only when held down. When tapped, it’s “escape.” Although I have a mechanical Filco without a num pad, I usually use my MacBook keyboard. I must admit that I do own a full-size Filco with num pad and all the extra buttons, but I rarely use it.

seeing these replies...i'm losing faith in humanity. i'm only half joking. if you have to do key remapping in software to achieve the same effect, there's an issue you're not seeing. a dedicated numpad is a godsend for more than just gaming. anyone who does data entry for any reason will really appreciate a dedicated numpad.
