Few years back you took a Hybrid Rav4 up some pretty steep hills and it killed it! So, unless that has changed, I say stick to the advice of buying a Hybrid Rav4 to get that low end torque since they don't have a proper 4L. Bottom line tho, is the TRD Rav4 is just an appearance package. It does not have the DNA like its bigger relatives.

I know this rav4 is more compact than subcompact, but I just got a compass upland and I am very happy with it's off-road performance given the size and price. They actually give it decent clearance, and more important for me where I live in cross-ditch central, good approach, skid plates, and decent departure+breakover as well. Those are what I run into before power and traction limits, typically, and it's the only vehicle in the class to give two hoots about angles.

I would love to see the Bronco Sport on your SUV course. I suspect it will do better than all others.

A weedwacker and some weed spray could do the course good I think. Maybe it’d be easier to see the obstacles. Another Good video TFL!

Don't spray a bunch of poison because you don't like weeds

I mean are there ways to increase it’s efficiency off-road? Way I see it, it was 9k cheaper than a 4Runner so if I were to spend it on mods does it have potential?

Can y’all bring the 2022 Tucson hybrid to Tumbleweeb Ranch?? I own one but I don’t have an off-road course to try it out on where I live

I would love to see this crossover course with older crossovers, something like a Jeep Compass or Patriot (because thats what I have!) I'm curious if the old Pat would mule its way up versus the new Rav4 trying to use all its traction control and torque vectoring.

Idk if the issue is the lack of torque, the 1st gear ratio, or Toyota's conservative computer system (V6 Camry and V6 Tacoma often seem like the computer is limiting the engine power and over-shifting the transmission, in the name of reliability/fuel economy/safety). Either way, this test was disappointing - because we know other vehicles with torque-vectoring all wheel drive can tackle these challenges. The Honda Ridgeline/Passport, the Subaru Crosstrek Sport/Forester/Outback, the Ford Maverick/Bronco Sport, the Jeep Compass/Renegade/Cherokee. Toyota has fallen behind, which makes the $40k price tag even more of a sore point. Although it's technically the best-selling car in America, so they can charge whatever they want and people will pay. However, I do think that minor changes to this generation could be made to really help the Adventure/TRD trim. A 1" lift, lower first gear and a slight remapping of the torque-vectoring software should be easy to implement - but we all know Toyota probably won't do any of that, because they don't have to, and this thing is meant to be a cool-looking mall crawler, not a baby 4Runner. Edit: To be fair, these tests were purposely made harder by going really slow, if not from a dead stop, and usually up a sharp incline. Almost every time, just a slight amount of momentum helped, and I feel like that should be expected in a vehicle like this.

You have to press and hold the traction control for at least 7 seconds for it to turn completely off.

13:00 cutting power is the ultimate epic fail. I’d rather have zero traction control whatsoever, like my 2003 Honda CRV. Give it enough power and you will always get at least one front and one rear tire to slip no matter what. Power cutting to front wheel drive only is insulting and embarrassing for a supposedly 4 wheel powered vehicle. Modern technology kinda sucks on entry level off-roaders.

Disappointing that Toyota can’t make this comparable to the Bronco Sport Badlands or Cherokee Trailhawk.

Kinda disappointed but it’s a nice looking vehicle but I guess it’s a good mall crawler”
