I'm not into Hybrids or EVs but the Prime almost addresses all my concerns. I think Toyota should make a TRD version and get rid of the sunroof and install a solar panel to charge the systems when not in use or near a charger for this Rav4 to be just about perfect. I tend to keep my cars for 12 or more years and generally put in over 300k miles on the odometer. This has always been with ICE equipped Toyota's and other than general maintenance Toyota has been very good to me. One massive worry about these new Prime vehicles is that all batteries die at some point and to replace a Prime battery is about $10,000. That's an expense I have never incurred with an ICE vehicle in my entire life.

I think I will stick with what conclusion you gave us initially back when you did trim comparisons. The Prime is ideal for on road performance. When your starting $ is well over 40K, then are supposed to modify it for OR condition running such as add proper tires, rock rails and under body protection at a minimal(raised ride height optional)you might as well just buy a proper 4x4 out of the gate for less money that has all that to begin with. The Rav4 TRD is not worth the $. (IMO) For similar logistics. I still maintain your conclusion that the XSE Hybrid was the best out of the box multi purpose Rav4 if one wants to dabble in both environments. For a reasonable price. Which is a great credit to your comparisons. :)

Not the low 25 miles in the Jeep 4xe. Also, glad Toyota could loan you a Rav4 to test. Wonder when they are going to start selling them to customers. Great demo of the off-road chops of this little rig! I didn't think it would do as well as it did. I guess I'm old but 50k seems like too much for a small vehicle that will depreciate over time.

@BL Dontmatter Yes, old and American. For me, if I can't fit my piano and a small amp in the back of the car it is too small :)

Did you forget this is toyota? I just sold my 2020 xse hybrid for 3k more then I paid. These things are appreciating not depreciating. Toyota holds amazing value

@@danhex This inflation is temporary. A millionaire once said cars are a liability, not an asset. The person who bought your car didn't get a great deal did they? A 2005 Lexus is worth maybe 20% of what it cost new. True, the Toyota name and quality makes for higher resale. Don't buy an Infiniti or Cadillac :)

@@IanFrancisco-CAPianoman The tax credit is gone. Dealer markups remain. Expect to pay $60K out the door for a Rav4 Prime w/premium package. @danhex no way will these appreciate from that amount. 5 years from now you'll be lucky if that $60K Rav4 Prime is worth $35K. Not saying this as a criticism, I'm in the process of buying one, but the reality is that the current market is not sustainable for much longer. Dealer markups, tax incentive gone, financing rates climbing, insurance costs going up, something's gotta give.

I had a non-Hybrid Rav4 in this body style last year as a rental, and it was the first rental I've ever had in my life that I actually would be willing to buy myself if I were in the market. It got great fuel economy, was powerful enough, and was super luxurious. It was however a FWD model... Anyhow, i'm a fan. If I were in the market for a plug in hybrid vehicle, this would tick probably every box and I'd have one in my driveway.

Luxurious a RAV4!?
@buzztrucker2 жыл бұрын
Most people that buy the AWD don't need it. It's just a nice to have. With good tires and traction control FWD is fine in most of the applications people would buy a RAV4 for.

This version is the rav4 on steroids

With the proper winter tyres the climb would be much easier

Yep. Those Avid GT's are so bad that Yokohama actually market it as a summer tyre in Europe.

Would be nice to see how it handles traction with the gas engine on. Can it send more power to the rear wheels when on in trail mode?
@unclej39102 жыл бұрын
The gas engine powers the front wheels. the rear is electric motors.

Where is your tuscon phev slip test/ off road test?
@davidaix57712 жыл бұрын
I really wished this thing did better off-road/in the snow my sock 2020 rav4 did amazing in the sand and in the snow and I really like the prime for its power and gas mileage but it's sad that those Electric motors pretty much just quit When I feel stuffed starting to slip The prime should have a similar setup to the TRD offroad with the clutch packs and maybe they can integrate that electric motor with the rear end Of a trd off road that would be amazing
@AB-80X Жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with the Prime, just the standard tyres. Slap a set of 255/55R19 Grabber AT3's on there and it will be a night and day difference. Those Avid GT's are so bad that they are actually sold as summer tyres outside of the US.

Everybody on these things talks about preferring to run on Eevee electricity rather than gas without answering the most single most important question over 90% of the potential buyers is real simple does electricity cost less per mile than gas if I'm spending more to run on gas then of course I prefer electricity it would cost less to run on gas than I prefer gas
