I’m going to repeat the comments about a fall harness-I’ve done lots of roof work without one, but decided to harness up on a recent job. I won’t harp on the consequences of a fall, you are a smart guy and can make your own choices- but think about it. Really admire the solid work you are doing!

unless you are an action hero from the movies i dont think anyone could hold back over 200lbs with nothing but grip strength on a rope. And even if you could , I wouldnt trust a single low capacity rope to take that initial load.

Jason Reynolds me too. I can't wait to see him off of it. Him just holding the rope isn't much safety at all. It should be tied around his waist at a minimum, but a harness would be much better.
@frednewman21627 жыл бұрын
Probably to late now, but you should have found re-tractable lanyard on Craig's List or EBay and just tied a rope around your waist to attach it to! That way would have freed up your other hand for work instead of holding your safety line! Maybe find or cheaply rent some sections of scaffolding from a local contractor that you can use to help get roofing up and do trim work? Scaffold could be set on planks and slid along to move it. Really nice work, especially for someone doing it by themselves!

You're supposed to overlap it. And like you said, too late now. Hope he caulks the heck out of that joint before putting up the roofing.
@digbyodell29247 жыл бұрын
I would think a pretty easy fix is to cut some overlap sections of drip edge for the seams?
@SuperBigblue197 жыл бұрын
Cut small pieces to use as a spline behind the joint. Caulk won't last well enough.
@george88737 жыл бұрын
You're right Digby, that should work, Cut a 8 inch piece over the gap and make sure to center it on the gap. And @ Super... he nailed the ends down, so doubt he'd get a spline under.

Well, great job so far! Have you looked at aluminum shakes or steel shakes (g-90)? Have you seen those beautiful metal shakes on homes? I am not talking about the large vertical pieces, but the ones shaped like asphalt shingles. At least have a peek for fun. They cost more money than asphalt shingles, but it doesn't hurt to peek (smile).

you deliver nice videos my dude. the whole package, the music (today reminded me of minecraft) the editing, the content, it's a step above the rest. i just built a 16x12ft addition on my house all by myself, I know exactly what you are going thru. I've had a deep splinter in my right palm since October 15th, after a few hundred bucks in doctor bills it's still in there (i did remove two large chunks weeks apart). i hope to die with that splinter still resting in the palm of my right hand, it's mine and I earned every bit of pain it has caused.

I have never seen 3/4 lumber on the edge of the roof like that. Is that a snow-load thing? (I live in Lower Alabama where flurries shuts down the world..)
@monicapttrsn7 жыл бұрын
The idea is to have the underside of the overhang area look beautiful with nice wood plank pieces, instead of looking at sheathing. When you are on the ground outside and look up, you see beautiful wood. But if you are using 5/8" sheathing, you want to use 5/8" planks, otherwise there will be a lip between the two edges.

Thomas Russell There's very little structural value, if any staggering the Starter Board. The overhang is so small compared to what the plywood is holding. The "pros" rarely if ever stagger it either.
