The versions of both Rondo and SoTN in the ps4 collection are actually from the Dracula X Chronicles game, they were unlocks. It's kind of a shame that the ps4 version is just a port of the PSP one, with the technically better but overall bland dub and different Maria mode. I am working my way through Symphony of the Night at the moment though my favorite Castlevania game is 100% Aria of Sorrow. I love the game and have so many fond memories as a kid playing it. I would love to see it completed as I have been trying to for awhile and just don't have the chops that you do!

Hours of jump-transforming into each pixel of the roof-ponds in the inverted castle so I get 100% of map discovered? Worth every damn second.

Great video Jirard! I actually saw it in my "Recommended" feed for the first time in forever despite watching most of your videos. You did have a couple of errors with what you said near the beginning. Rondo of Blood was an PC Engine CD-Rom game (what we know as the TurboGrafx for those of you reading the comments) and we didn't see it specifically until the PSP Dracula X Chronicles release (in its original form too). The SNES Dracula X is mostly a port of that game but is only somewhat faithful and not the same game (after watching further you mentioned the SNES version being a port). Also, you are introduced and can even play as Alucard in Castlevania 3. Which is also the game that the Netflix series is pulling characters from as it has Trevor, Sypha and Alucard along with a character named Grant. And in the original SotN for the Saturn, you could play as Maria which is most likely what the PSP port of the game is based on rather than the PS1 version of the game.

Your dream about sharing game secrets with friends was my reality back in 1997 and it's something I miss very much about old school gaming...

I love me some SotN and it's effect on future Castlevania games can't be disputed, but the tv show pulls from Castlevania 3 more than anything else. Also, how great is that soundtrack.

SOTN is still a great game. Played through it first time two years ago. Did not expect much but it ended up becoming my favorite game after Dark Souls 1. One of the best soundtracks of all time, great atmosphere and exploration. The gameplay feels smooth and captivating after you get the hang of it. The only downsides that I can think of are the inventory menu and difficulty that never feels quite right - Alucard essentially becomes a god after a while.

The fact that you have "Lost Painting" as background music earned you a special place.

I'm still working on my lvl 71 save file for PS1. I pop it in when I'm really bored. It's fun to give yourself limitations, like turning off double jump and etc. Plus, I'm still working on maxing that Muramasa and Badelaire. A part of me thinks that there is another old secret hiding somewhere... I've gone outside the castle walls in the Chapel for extra map %, but not the Outer Wall. I'm still searching for a level up method that is fun, since at a certain level no matter what you kill counts as 1xp. Either that or you have so much xp that your gains barely register on your stat screen. Oh well. Happy playing!
