This is surprisingly similar to a Mono blue deck that I built previously while playing Shandalar. Tinker and Show and Tell to cheat out huge threats, Personal Tutor for consistency, Back to Basics functions somewhat similar to Blood Moon, and then backing it all up with Counterspell and Force of Will. It’s surprising to see a Gruul deck that functions so similarly to a mono blue deck!

ive been working on a build like this, its really fun! personally i like 1 kogla and yidaro (removal), 2 ghalta (so you can no it even with one stuck in hand) 3 atraxa and 3 griselbrand (best fatty with sneak attack) i cut the wurms cuz they felt winmore even if theyre super sick with sneak attack

Since nobody else told you- He doesn't necessarily win, but he can now cause a one sided boardwipe. The basic loop of -pay life, place a negative counter-make a snake-gain life means he can erase whatever advantage he has at instant speed at basically no cost to life while drawing a shit ton of cards. He doesn't win instantly, but there is literally no way out for his deck against a constant instant speed boardwipe that also draws the yawg player cards.

Out of curiosity, why 10 dorks as opposed to 6 dorks and 4 utopia sprawl? It’s much more resilient to fatal push and bolt. 6 forests and 8 fetches for said forests are plenty to enable it.

Love the cards, wish they would add more powerful cards to widen the format. Like give us some free spells for phoenix, maybe hedron crab and vengevine, maybe some tron lands or something, cabal ritual, entomb/persist

It definitely could use a few more things to broaden the format like Tron lands and another ritual. I'm not sure that if I want free spells or not though. Like the obvious ones are Force of Will/Negation, which might be healthy for the format but also might make Wilderness Rec/Nexus and/or Oko/Uro/Teferi piles super meta which sounds miserable. The other ones that come to mind are the evoke elementals and in really don't want to have to start playing against scam on arena (which is pretty much all that's missing from the client). Otherwise I guess there are the suspend cards like footfalls and living end, which I guess you could cascade/discover into on turn 3 in theory?

@@Red-Tower i think living end would be a super easy addition for wotc and would create a whole new archetype instantly. In terms of free spells i just meant like gitaxian probe specifically for phoenix. But force of negation may become necessary eventually, if anything too broken appears. The formats weird in that it requires a myriad of strong decks in order to stay balanced. I think we just need more archetypes that can keep up

Well it's not a loss yet but the opponent will simply remove his board, draw 21 cards while doing so and seth next turn will only have 4 mana since his mana dork gets removed, even if SOMEHOW he got a way to cheat more his creatures into play all the opponent really needs to do is keep removal in hands in case it's necessary and slowly beat seth down for the win, assuming of course he didn't find an instant win condition for the next turn in the 21 draws he's gonna get.
