An excellent idea to have a tire warranty with all of the driving that you do!

I think you missed a step in tire change process. After raising to the highest point, you need to go into the menu and set it to "Tire Change" mode. Steps from the manual: 11. Go to Drive Modes in the center display. Choose Off-Road All-Terrain . Then choose Highest under Ride Height. 12. Go to Settings . Choose Vehicle. Then choose Service. Turn on Tire Change mode. NOTE Automatic suspension adjustments pause when Tire Change mode is on. Also, ride height can't be changed when Tire Change mode is on.

I think the Discount Tire insurance certificates are money well spent. They've saved me before in the past, I always get them with new tire purchases. If you drive a lot of miles every year, it's a no-brainer, stuff is going to happen.

Dump the scissor jack - Land Rover also supplies the cheapest and unsafest scissor jack with their cars and they are totally useless if you have to use them off road. Been there and have several tee shirts to prove. I also read on forums of cars that have fallen off their scissor jacks causing damage to operator and car.

I have a good floor jack that I’ll carry when on road trips and ordered some proper metal jack adapters for the Rivian - unlike a Tesla, jack pads are actually necessary on Rivian

I would of done it all the exact same way. People complain about OEM parts and labor rates but as you've demonstrated here, it was actually pretty reasonable. I think the Discount Tire warranty you bought will pay for itself pretty quickly considering the mischief you can get into with a vehicle this capable. Great video Branden and thanks for sharing!
@brandenflasch2 жыл бұрын
That was my thought as well - in most vehicles it probably wouldn’t be worthwhile but in a Rivian with being able to do off-road and such, I think it’s worthwhile.

I am 65 years old. I have been buying Discount Tire Certs since there has been Discount Tire (at least 35 years) which means longer than many of you have been alive. Buy Them. It is insurance well spent and in 4 occasions over all this time tires with less than 100 miles on them were destroyed only to have Discount take care of everything. Now in CA there is a disposal fee and some other fee but it is still great to know you are covered. The Manager knows you are going off-road in your off-road vehicle, just don't put him/her in a bad place and tell them you were off-roading when it happened. When both my kids went off to College, I put brand new Michelins on their cars and Certs of course. One kid needed the certs twice. Money well spent. I only buy tires from Discount/America's Tire as they are good folks at all locations and the Certs are a lifesaver.

The certs can be worth it for tires of this price for exactly the issue you experienced. I haven't bough the certs in years but don't have a vehicle running $400 tires either. The great thing about Discount though is that rotation and balance will always be free for you now, regardless.

Absolutely. I usually just roll the dice and come out ahead, but with ~$400 tires it’s a nice peace of mind.

My Tesla Model S original Perellis cost overv$300 and lasted 25000 miles I replaced them with Kumho ecsta pa51 tires that lasted 50000 miles and had equal or better speed and weight ratings. And cost 220. You gotta shop around if replacing all 4.

Totally agree. I’ll definitely be considering all options when it comes time for replacing all the tires - I may even go to a less aggressive tire for more range.

The labor rate shows .4 hr. You were charged shop rate. Luckily there is not a minimum of 1.0 hour. Tire shop labor would be considerably less. There's always risk of someone not noticing the wheel requires a different type of changing machine than most steel wheels. I think you did the best for your situation.
@brandenflasch2 жыл бұрын
As a former service advisor, lube / tire rate is always less but it’s whatever - the overall cost was reasonable and that’s what matters. Rivian had the tire in stock and made it painless and that’s worth more than saving maybe $10-30 if I had shopped around.

No fix a flat thing will fix a sidewall hole. In fact its unfixable with anything. Even if it's in the thread fix a flats rarely work and for a truck tire you need a lot of goo.

Oh, and another thing....NEVER use that Slime $#%&, it actually will eat the epoxy that protects the circuit board for your tire pressure monitors. Once that epoxy is gone, the electronics are open to all that sloppy mess, and shorts them out. Also, when it comes time to change the tire, your mechanic will have to take the time to clean all that crap off the wheel, otherwise the bead will never hold. That not only pisses him off, but it's going to take more time to get it clean, and you're the one who's paying the labor. Every way around.... It's just a good idea to steer clear of this kind of product...nothing but headaches.

Would like to see a better video of a tire change. Watching one handed video recordings is pretty painful. Haven't successful KZbinrs figured out a solution to this? Maybe a head mount for the phone? Velcro chest mount 😀? A friend to hold the camera? Something? Also, would like a video of what you mean by "sketch" in the context of jacking up the truck on the Rivian provided jack --i.e., show me a recording of "sketch". Finally, you forgot to put the truck in "Tire Change" mode in addition to raising the suspension to "highest". Overall, sorry, not your finest video.

I considered not even posting this since it was a bit of a mess, but I figured there was at least value in talking about the cost and process. Jack wanted to tilt even on pretty much level ground as the vehicle lifted up is what I meant by sketchy. I did put it in Tire Change mode, but forgot to show it.
