While I think the Rivian is a great achievement, I hope Rivian is able to reduce what is currently an unreasonable amount of disassembly required to perform minor repairs. Cool! Sorry to bother you with this question, but hopefully you can answer it: Most modern cars are 'connected' nowadays, not only EVs. Unfortunately, a lot of car manufacturers are (ab)using this ability to mine a lot of customer data and selling it to third parties (like advertisers and insurance companies). I really hope Rivian is not one of or will not become one of those manufacturers where their cars are basically smartphones on wheels when it comes to the privacy issues. These developments really hold me back in buying a modern car. What is Rivian's point of view regarding this?

Shocked me to hear of it. In the UK e-vehicles have an exemption from our version of that. Here it's commonly called Road Tax, although that was replaced a few years ago with Vehicle Emissions Tax, and it's now just Vehicle Tax. Contrary to popular belief it doesn't actually go specifically to road maintenance, so not paying it doesn't mean you aren't contributing to road upkeep. Disabled drivers and vehicles used to transport disabled passengers are also exempt.

@@AxGaragewell the additional weight of these vehicles degrades the roads much faster. I think it’s fair that they have to pay more taxes for that, and in European countries they are forcing a change in propulsion just like they did 20 years ago with Diesel which now is beeing prohibited everywhere even though just a few years ago it was the future, and a lot of tax money went towards financing all the bonuses just like now with EV’s. Imo taxes on cars should me made based on weight, more horsepower or worse emission rating is not damaging the road, which is what a tax on cars “should be for”, so the heavier the vehicle the higher the taxes would be very fair.
@AxGarage5 ай бұрын
@@yannicg I agree with you. The weight is what should be considered, and truthfully I'm not sure if they do base it off that, they might be already. A 9000lb Hummer EV should pay more in wheel tax than a ~4000lb Nissan leaf.

wow, the price of the new glass makes me happy to live in Germany. if the glass can be repaired it is free of charge. if it has to be exchanged I pay 75€ as a quote that's it No matter how expensive the replacement is. That is part of car insurance I would never drive a day with a broken window.

EV sales in Germany are down 30% from last year, probably wouldn't own this either.

That dirt collecting is now the new norm, time to add it to the every 5-10k miles task, if you want the best fuel efficiency, you gotta take the dirt collecting

20 miles a gallon while hauling, towing, and driving off road seems really optimistic to me.

Congrats Jerry on being ok to paying your share for road repair. Top guy, honest review. And Rivian was a new company first to market with a pickup , still a great product. Version 2 easier to repair the battery, congrats Rivian 😊

I have to praise Rivian for their commitment to service, continuing improvement, customer service. and overall quality. I've driven Rivians, Teslas, Mach-Es, and even the Cybertruck. If i could afford a new vehicle, Rivian would be my first choice.

Jerry, 72k on my r1t that new designed tailgate lid trim will still catch on things. I'd put some double sided tape on the flat part to help keep it down. It sticks up a bit causing it to get caught on things while unloading. Thats how they rip off, or still rip off.

I put some Gorilla tape across the inside edge of the top trim piece.
@hjc07065 ай бұрын
@@swordedaffair it would bother me.. I just figured once it rips off again (happend 2 already) I'm going to load up on the "heavy duty" double sided tape. Fwiw, some not all the trim piece sits recessed. Making it even less likely to rip off.

I love the R1T but can't afford one. Finally starting to see some driving around my area. Thanks for this video.

Seems like a LOT of WORK, compared to my first FIVE years owning a Honda CR-V: Annual oil changes + 1 or 2 wiper refills. I'm glad your "enjoying" your Rivian!

WTF Nope that seems like the same amount work. Much of that was DAMAGE not maintenance. You did not smash your windscreen.

Hey, My front Chevy Bolt tires last 11,250 miles. Had to replace the front axles and hubs at 38k. But I love the torque.
