Defintely a collab I was looking for. Great to see the more athletic and analytical breakdown of the sport. Keep an eye on these two, all they do is leaps of improvement everytime I see their videos.

This was my third summer of disc golfing. I was stuck throwing around 170'. I field practice twice a week but wasn't getting any better. Then I paid for a one on one lesson with a local expert. 2 weeks later after practicing the changes I was throwing 200-250 AND I was more accurate than I ever thought I could be! Disc golf is so much more fun now. Find a good teacher, it's worth every penny.

Sitting around waiting on time to pass after abdominal surgery not able to throw and still a few weeks behind on coverage it was nice to have something to watch that was season-spoiler-free and that I can do some visualization with while I'm not lifting or playing for a month. Watching this, especially the slow mo recap, reinforced some things I can feel just thinking through what I do. I can tell I'm have a spine tilt in the back swing like a ball golf drive because that feels powerful, but like around the 9:49 mark the one legs illustrate how I think you need to be neutral to tilted to the front foot the whole time. I'm going from tilted back to getting back to neutral so it feels like all the power leaks out the top. Seeing Luke Taylor throw like someone with all their vertebra fused got me thinking and the progression here makes that pretty clear.

Absolutely an amazing video. I really enjoyed the body anatomy lesson correlated to disc golf movements. If anyone is looking for a how to throw efficiently this is definitely a strong video for everyone to learn. I especially enjoyed the the process of throws. Very important to listen carefully to the checklist and to understand the variables that go with the pre-throw checklist. Meaning to really know the difference between mentally knowing the steps and physically integrating the steps. Feel is most important from what was gathered from the video. Great job yall! Keep booming them discs! ps. Bodanza says yeah 117 times. : ) lol

It’s good to listen to the super technical biomechanics, especially with a more focused update from Dave Frldberg’s old stuff. I wonder how many players experiencing shoulder pain would benefit from this, given the “elbow dip” external shoulder rotation phenomenon, I.e., stressing out the rotator cuff on movements that those muscles aren’t meant to sustain.

What does the Hyzer spinal tilt mean for throwing powerfully on an anhyzer angle? Many top throwers (ex. Niklas Antila, Paul McBeth) talk about using the posture to control release angle, but it seems like this approach would limit power on higher angles. Absolutely love this content and its grounded approach to the throw from a sports science perspective. Keep it up!!!
@NickKrush.DGandFit3 ай бұрын
You are 100% right, we can adjust our spinal tilt to manipulate disc hyzer/anhyzer angle with consistency. Generally, the most powerful and healthy release angle will be on slight hyzer which is why we train that way most of the time (and allows us to throw anhyzers without extreme anhyzer spine tilt). Just make sure to keep the abs engaged when throwing power anhyzers so the back doesn't hyperextended 👍

@kimmomatikainen18432 ай бұрын
McBeth turns basically on his whole foot. One thing that comes to my mind that are you vertically on your plant foot? Stand on it. That might be one reason. You should not be on top of your plant foot. If you do that, then your whole body weight is directly on it. I have some issues with plant foot and I have tried a lot of different ways. Not having all the weight on planted foot, foot turns easier and there is less weight on and is technically correct. Throwing stand still might also help. I got a small fracture near my toes in the past when I turned on toes. I stopped doing that. Just couple of thoughts from my own practical experience in two decades of playing.

Muscle doesn't equal strength and strength doesn't equal distance. Speed is much more important in distance than strength when throwing light objects. Eagle and Simon threw really far when they had no power (5-10 years ago). They started to go to gym later after injuries. Eagle didn't do even one pull-up when he threw 650-700 ft. Muscle is good to have to protect joints etc. so to prevent injuries. Too much muscle is bad for disc golf. Range of motion etc. Speed is genetic. Speed (fast muscle fibers) can be trained and improved so everyone can improve speed, but it is still genetic. People with slow fibers don't have the same absolute maximum in speed that people with fast fibers have. Of course person with slow fibers can be faster than person with fast fibers if one trains hard and the other one doesn't. But if we look at our maximum levels, then slow fibers lose the distance thing. Strength comes to play when we throw heavy objects (e.g. 10lbs), but throwing 180 g and less object, strength doesn't play a big role. Yes you can gain distance when your strength level go up from "zero", but strength is not in very big role when throwing light objects. How much of the increase is about strength and how much it has to do with increased fast fibers instead of pure strength. I don't know if anyone knows. I am sure you know about kids at school or even older who can run 100 m sprint really fast even if they have never practiced. That is genetic. They can beat sprinters who have practiced for years. Strong and slow muscle fiber = can't throw very very far no matter how hard you try. Need to be explosive to run fast or throw far. Sorry about long text.

In the slowmo's it looks like your arm is just a little bit too far forward in the first half of the throw. Specifically when your torso is almost half way between facing forward and backwards, your arm should be a little bit more straight back, specifically your elbow is too much to the right. If you just stand and hold your arm across your body like when your almost in the power pocket, you should be able to feel your peck stopping your arm from being able to go back farther, this is how your arm should be just as you are about to reach the power pocket. I am not a super advanced thrower, my record is 632 with a backwind and 5 feet of elevation drop, corvettes are awsome for max distance. But please try having your arm just a few inches further back right their so it almost bounces off of your peck into the power pocket as your torso rotates.

Comment at the end about being coachable even though already playing in pro tournaments kind of says a lot about how far behind our sport still is. As far as I know, every major sport has coaches to either help the player to continue to get better or even more so keep them from falling off. Just because pros put on clinics, it doesn't mean that they don't also still need help training (properly). A good teacher will always continue to learn more.
