Hey man, I think the formula you should use is: Allow them to pick civ if sum of their elo is less than yours, otherwise they should go random and you can pick civ. Otherwise, it will be a stomp for them. If we want to take this further, we can also experiment with handicaps to equate the elo.

Well if we balance by rating then to Heras 2800 (or whatever rating he has these days) to have 1v3 opponents have to have average 900 and guys at that level will cooperate much less and their timings will be worse too. For instance I know some roughly 800 and these guys will usually stay in their base till castle age and will reach that castle age at like minute 20, at that time someone like Hera will steamroll them with knights. So "if the players use teamwork and aren't total noobs" by your standards sound like at least 1200-1500 which is by definition above average.

@@MrChiangching Yea but execution of that plan is something else, there are players whos army help will arrive at minute 20 maybe later, which is way too late to help. Or if they will blunder their army into TC fire, or will stop making villagers since they forget, or will get super tilted when army appears in their base. I have personally defeated 3 players at once and I am not player with great skill (I am roughly 1500), but their was much lower. I was able to do super fast castle with castle drop at like minute 17 and push from there Things like luring boar, proper scouting, constant making villagers, proper build order, actively using your army, making counter units, keeping calm under pressure, micro, knowing when to engage and more are all skills that are often not granted for lower rated players.

Why not make a rule where you get a +30sec headstart for every extra player over 1000 elo? So like in this situation you would have a 1 minute headstart. It's significant but not game breaking.
