We saw him, early days in Glasgow. Fabulous. A nice man too.

I think it's safe to say, he's definitely played a guitar before! I make my living playing guitar but seeing someone like Martin Taylor makes me realize how much I still need to practice.

Just insane the ability to play those bass lines with the chord accompaniment. But of course the best is to go sit next to one of your idols and have them just praise you to no end. Pure joy

Martin talks about this at his concerts. Apparently Chet sprung this appearance on him fairly last minute and when asked what he should play said “play something fast”!!

Recalling a magic night Chet Atkins introduced England/Scotland's Martin Taylor to an American Country TV audience of millions saying: "One of the most impressive guitarists . . . this young man has just too much technique to go around!" Mr. Taylor treated the musically-informed studio audience to his unparalled finger-style solo rendition (with the fastest imaginable bass line) of the Gershwins' I GOT RHYTHM. Still gives goosebumps to hear it, Lo these decades later. Really, is there anything you cannot find at KZbin, circa 2024? kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHyriKSEjs6VgK8

Hey Martin,Come to Oz bud? Also I prefer Your playing now. As awesome as this is, its sounds technique driven (to my humble ears) and Your playing in recent times has become way more musical. Tommy's the same( but diff) You should do a Duo with Caley Groves. Awesome Aussie. (Shrewsbury Guitar?) Thanks for the fresh stuff.

@@TheKingG2010 listen to some pat martino, john scofield, joe pass, ... or any other post bop cats. Learn to appreciate the dissonances and off-beat rhythms. How the atmosphere goes from unstability to "ahh we're back home"... Dig?

Yeah, I'm with you. This was not pleasing to the ear, no matter how mind-blowing it is for technical prowess. Frantic fingering and chordal exploration does not equal a pleasant listening experience for me. It's exhausting actually.

Didn’t Martyn Booth design that guitar?

That one pre-dated his Martyn Booth guitar, I believe. That's his signature model Yamaha. Correct me if I'm wrong, Mr. Taylor. Thanks for sharing this performance with us.

As a guitarist, I can totally appreciate his ability but as a listener to "I got rhythm"... It's very busy to the extent that... Well Im not hearing the song and wasn't that enjoyable to listen to at all... For me anyway.. 😏 But fantastic ability though.. 😬🙂👍

What a show-off. Amazing technicality, yada yada yada...but where's the music in that? I can't take much of that and if I'd paid to attend a concert and the guitarist did this all night, I'd feel cheated.

About to reply "You know who would disagree with you? Mr. Guitar Chet Atkins!" -- according to the delightful anecdote [above] from tinman8018 -- Chet decided on Martin's last minute appearance on this great show; when Martin asked what Chet wanted to hear, Mr. Atkins said: "Play something fast." Knowing the effect it would have -- and did have -- on that 'musically-informed' studio audience. As Grindstaff09 says [below] "Chet's fault!"
