I got rid of my Kings 20A MPPT Solar Regulator and purchased a Renogy Regulator! / 12V Canopy Setup!

After experiencing a number of issues I send back my Adventure Kings 20A MPPT Solar regulator and purchase a ‪@RenogySolar‬ 20A regulator.
With the new unit installed what a game changer!! Only a little more expensive than the Kings unit but with added features like Bluetooth and a screen on the unit. I am loving it so far!!

That unit looks identical to the kick ass one. Right down to the same packaging it comes in. Been happy as Larry with mine, and well Larry he’s a happy bloke

Renogy is a far bigger company than Kickass, the unit Kickass use is renogy's older model, kickass are essentially a rebrand of renogy's unit, so yes both units are good as they were the same, just renogy's current model is a newer model than what Kickass use. I use allot of renogy gear, its good and so if your using kickass they are equally as good, Ive dealt with Kickass and their customer service is good.

Quite pathetic they don’t include a dot point in the description on the website saying the same. Only place it says not compatible with lithium is last dot point in safety instructions in the manual. Useless and misleading.

Did what you said. All the rego did was blow 40 amp fuses due to its huge inrush current in the mornings got $320 back moving to victron or morning star,, price is what you pay..

By the way bought two of the first model which wiped out the fm radio band 4wd super store said send them back at your cost…I am still looking for a good regulator that does not wipe out cb radio and fm channels.

I’ve had 3 kings MPPT now all replaced under warranty. The sad part is I only bought the first one 3 weeks ago. I didn’t even bother trying the third one. I ended up getting the XTM MPPT controller from BCF for $99 as it is just a rebadged Epever Tracer.

@@LiquidAntler they will eventually. They’re a bit behind the 8 ball when it comes to upgrades/updates. Look at their first DCDC charger. Didn’t have lithium because they didn’t sell them. Their big thing when it was introduced was that it was Australian designed but it was designed on old and outdated technology. I only got the kings charger to charge my starter which in turn would charge my lithium through the dcdc charger and I think that’s why it kept failing. I’ll eventually get the Renogy DCDC MPPT because it charges the starter battery once the lithium if fully charged and it charges dcdc and Solar at the same time.

I was about to purchase a full setup from Kings until I saw all the bad reviews for these regulators. Now I'm ditching kings and spending a bit more on a better brand. Thanks

Yea most of the time i have found the Kings gear fine. Must have just got a bad unit. Also prefer being able to see exactly what is going on with the unit.

Had a kings one and in less then 7 days I was like wow something is wrong with it Went with a victron and can use Bluetooth to see what's happening with the input from solar and the output with fridge Night vs Day ..

Had the same thing happen with my kings Mppt unit. Wasn’t happy with it so jumped on KZbin and found this video. Liked the look and your explanation of the Renogy Rover that I’ve ordered one as a replacement for the kings MPPT. I have one question, When you returned your unit, did you just take it back to the store or did you go through the warranty phone number on the instructions? I just bought the Kings 250 watt portable solar kit. The controller didn't work out of the box. I've emailed them and am waiting.

"Kings" is just a name they stick on these units. They are chinese made. You can find the same units with different names, on youtube. I have one coming tomorrow. $29 on Amazon. I have 3 PWM controllers on 3 dif battery banks for the past 2 and 3 years and all 3 have worked perfectly. I just fiqured for $29 + $2 tax, to Califilornia, I'll give it a try. 20 amp, MPPT. looks like it can't be programed. Didn't realize that until after I ordered it. Will be delivered tomorrow

Same as the Renogy, it's just a rebranded controller and comes with different brand names. I chose Rich Solar because although identical to the Renogy, the Rich Solar has bigger more rugged connections.

Hi, we had the same issue with kings Mppt regulator and got the renogy 20A charge controller. The renogy one didn’t come with the Anderson style plugs or any of other cable so we have kings battery, battery box and solar blanket and no clue about how to connect this regulator to our battery box and solar blanket ( both of them with Anderson plugs) help please

Update. My Kings 20 A MPPT puts out 17.8 volts. A waste of $33. Luckily, fiqured it out before it frued my battery. Can a resistor be added to output to regulate the voltage to 14.5 volts?

I recieved my MPPT two weeks ago, which came with the 250w solar panel. It pumped my AGM with up to 17 volts which is both above the 14.7v charging voltage AND the 16v Overvoltage Protection. Absolute garbage product, a battery killer. It boggles my mind that Kings / 4wdsupacenter continue to sell and distribute these despite such a common and dangerous fault. They should be recalled and binned.
