Ascension might have made the first permanent visual meta tank, but the mechanic itself existed since Mists of Pandaria. Glyph of Demin hunting - You learn the ability Dark Apotheosis. This grants you a 10% reduction to damage taken while in demon form. Also while in demon form, soul shatter becomes a taunt, twilight ward reduces all magic damage taken, and demonic slash generates fury.

I dont like being that guy but TECHNICALLY WoW did permanent Meta form first. Glyph of Demon Hunting gave Warlocks Dark Apotheosis. It was only in the game for MoP but it let Warlocks have a pseudo tank stance

Threat is what gives it the classic feel, as a tank main i really enjoy the threat mechanics. It seperates good and bad tanks. Players who dont like threat mechanics just arent tank players

No point in using the voidwalker to tank until much later in the phases when Master Demonologist comes into play. Imp for the stam buff and damage. Whats the point of using your tanking pet when you're tanking? :P Imp also has the fire-thorns buff, which helps a little with threat.

Immolate -> Death coil -> Chaos Bolt -> Conflagrate -> Shadow Burn is going to destroy in later phases. If they survive that, fear once and wait for the cooldowns to reset.

I feel like open world PvP events need to be fighting over resources or the same objectives. If you watch Barney64's Scarab Lord series, you see what open world PvP could be like. You have to get players fighter over hundreds of tiny objectives all over the place instead of 2 or 3, otherwise it's either all 10k players on each side throwing AoE and making the game laggy, or they don't interact at all and Zerg down the objective. Tbh, I think a World PvP event should be more Multi-Zone PvP, like have 20 bases for each side spread throughout Silithus, Un'goro, Tanaris, Thousand Needles, and Feralas, and you have to fight over resources and escort them to your bases while the carrier is forced to move at 75% speed. I came up with those ideas on the fly, and I feel like that sounds like a way more fun idea than AV in Ashenvale.

You are exactly correct! Dark Age of Camelot got it right with that almost 30 years ago now. PvP was called RvR, realm vs realm. There was 3 factions instead of 2. You fought in huge zones with multiple castles and towers. Taking them allowed teleports right to enemy land. 2 weaker realms could gang up on the OP or huge amount of players. It can be done because it was done and that is the best way to do it.

honestly i think it wouldve been fun if they implemented the voidwalker as a sort of mitigation cooldown like for example on a 2 minute cooldown you can insta summon a voidwalker for 10 seconds which forces all enemies to attack him for that time, the voidwalker does attack for a little bit of damage but he doesnt move after enemies, he stays permanently at your side (so it doesnt mess with positioning) while it would be 100% mitigation you would still take damage from things like aoe and if it would be to broken you could make it so that after the 10 seconds are over you take a certain percentage of damage the voidwalker took during the uptime, actually come to think of it i think it would be nice to turn ALL warlock pets into active abilities instead of pets, your succubus would be an out of combat stun like freezing trap, the succubus runs to the enemy and charms him in place for a minute while she does a little bit of damage during those 60 seconds, the felhunter could work as either a dispell or a spellsteal like ability, the imp could increase damage and give lifesteal etc

Tip for tanking with meta. Rock a main hand that is under or at 1.5 attack speed in order to maintain threat. This allows you to weave an auto attack in between every searing pain. Also make a macro for searing pain and start attack so your character is always trying to melee. Fixed 90% of my threat issues.

29:56 Kill the King scenarios often turn into that. Because it's always more efficient to burn down the NPC than it is to try and split your force and defend your guy and try to kill theirs. It's a terrible scenario and no one seems to have made a rendition of it that doesn't turn into a pve dps race.

as someone who's played private servers aswell, I can see ur frustration. honestly I think its the community. they want the true classic experience instead of creature comforts that alot of people have experienced in private servers or updated wow. That being said, I feel alot of classes need some work. maybe that world buff with spell power will help it raids. But casters in general I Think could use love. But who's to say what's in store for us. were only lvl 25. there could be helm and boot enchants coming to for all we know. I dont play a lock but would be cool to see the metamorphosis lock shooting out aoe shadow bolts. just some food for thought

I think it makes total sense for private server players to be more chill. They aint paying to play the game. Yes you can get some QoL on Ascension but you wont have to resub if you didnt clear all the content in one month

feel ashenvale PvP is really subjective, had a ton of fun in it, avoiding the big zergs, picking off people with 1v1 or even 1v2 feels a lot of fun. a PvP zone SHOULD be feared, and hope STV gonna be just as fun and i know it will be even better

Just got my meta form yesterday. Definitely need more threat on shadow cleave maybe because incinerate (25% extra dmg to fire for x secs) with some searing pain is good for single target threat. Regardless very high apm tank where you have to always press a button every gcd which is meh. Still happy to have it

I play when my retail friends aren't pulling me into another series of M+ runs. Left to my own devices I'd play it a lot more, but I love my friends and like playing with them, and none of them are into the whole Classic thing. Was going to go Meta Warlock, but after playing Fire with Incinerate/Chaos Bolt/Demonic Tactics I think I might just do that in raids/dungeons and save Meta for when the mood hits. I think Tactics is better than Lake of Fire for single target fights; you lose 40% fire damage on static targets, but the 10% crit is nice, doesn't push you into life tapping more often, and doesn't require anything to be standing still.

As far as I can tell, and from running it a while myself, I use a offhand with armor, alliance wins here hands down, but hord also has one. Then I got a dagger with 1.5 attack speed. I macro /startattack into my searing pain and get a auto off every instant cast I do thanks to melee weaving. Warlock discord had a discussion in the tank thread about it a few days ago, I tried it out and really like it.

Threat is a Classic WoW mechanic, from 19 years ago. Threat has largely been eliminated in the last decade as a realistic concern, but if you're going to be playing Classic WoW, you play by its rules, for good and ill. Turn on your nameplates.

The gatekeeping from the players in official wow servers has always been cringe. Even more so when you realize this is only level 25. I haven't experienced being asked what my gear is or asking whether I got a quest item to "confirm" I did the dungeon at least once. Warmane is pretty bad with the high gear + achievement thing. You need icc gear to do toc 10m with 5.2k gearscore. This also leads to people having absolutely whack gear trying to hit big numbers, the amount of plate wearers of all roles wearing cloth and leather with no t9 set pieces in sight is insane, but if it’s not that then they’re wearing Wrathful Glad set bought off the store.

13:45 hard disagree. Almost all tanks in classic don't have active mitigation that they have to upkeep, so the only thing for tanks to do is to hold threat which is perfectly fine for a simple game

No QoL is not worth it. we are doing SoD for Classic plus. I leveled a druid and it feels so weak compared to pallys with divine storm and other classes that got improvements that they needed. I wanted to level a warrior, but it is not worth it until they are even viable in later level brackets. I want to do BFD, then I will take a break from SoD until next bracket maybe. Ascension here I come! lol

So my opinion as a retail gamer of official WoW Servers. I play SoD with some guild friends from retail and its really alot of fun. BUT i'm not even 25 yet. And i think SoD has a big problem. I watched a few videos from you before and already know you. Was pretty hyped as i saw we are by accident on the same server :D And when i saw the announcement on blizzcon for SoD i thought it was alot like ascention. Now that i played it a bit (like 20-ish Hours) i think it doesnt give alot of content. For sure leveling and a few runs of BFD are fun. But what comes next? I think i'll just wait for the next "Season" von SoD. I thought SoD would be alot more like Ascention with alot more spells from different classes, new spells etc. But it feels more like Classic WoW with a extra talenttree with 3/12 Talents to choose. And i think that is a bit boring. If it would be complete classless WoW i would enjoy it alot more. But we will see if there will be more abilities in the future or if SoD is just a one hit wonder and dies with the first 25 levels. But i think there will update this game alot. And i hope that it will mainain a bit more complexity. Cause everyone who starts SoD already played WoW in some way. And there is no point in my opinion to keep it easy. 3/12 is just to little for some fun new experiense. Would really like to see a BFA Video. Keep up the good work!

So I've been watching your vids for a few months, and I actually just recently started playing Ascension. My experience so far has been this: 1-60 = a fucking blast. Soooo much information and things to play with, right from the second you spawn into the starting zone. I was hooked and played for hours. Level 60 didn't come slowly tho. 60-70 = average - below average experience for a private server. The community doesn't seem do to anything. Ever. Besides RDF and BG's/Solo Q arenas. Even during peak times. I'm not sure if there's a channel that I'm not in, or what-- but nobody is ever talking in world chat channels, let alone game chat at all. Secondly, pvp was a huge disappointment. It feels worse than retail. I love playing melee classes, and always will. But it feels like Ascension pvp is NO place for a melee class. Which really surprised me, because I was having so much fun with this Wind Rager build in bgs 1-60. I wasn't exactly deleting people, but my class felt powerful against some of those BiS ranged builds. Then lvl 60 comes along, and I'm hitting people for 90% of the damage that I was at lvl 59. It's like once you hit 60, you gain 1200 resil, and it takes 5 minutes to 1v1 someone. So after about 500 HKs, PvP on Ascension was a no-go for me. I tried bgs and arenas at 70 with s2, different builds, guides, etc-- It's just not fun (at least for melee classes). I really like the High-Risk PvP mode tho, as it let me farm out some Rare quality enchants that work great in pvp, and do a lot pve. Lately, I've been PvEing. It's a lot more fun, since I can see those big numbers. But as stated above, nobody is doing anything. Raids aren't being cleared, it seems. So my PvE experience has been confined to heroic RDFs. I'm sorry for the essay lol. I'm not here to complain, I'm just sharing what I've seen so far over this past week of playing. I'm mostly looking for advice from some veteran Ascension players. Based on your videos, I feel like I'm missing a ton here. I really want to like Ascension because it has so much appeal, right when you make that first hero. But the world feels empty 24/7 (even tho I see people everywhere), and PvP feels like you're fighting with res sickness. I'd love to hear from anyone on this stuff, I'm just trying to better understand how to play this server. (Yes, I've played a number of peak hours, it's the same all around)

I would like to add that stun/cc aren't the issues in PvP. I've been reading old posts on reddit, and it seems like stuns/cc from other classes didn't used to share cd's/dr's. There's still lots of stuns & cc in PvP from what I've noticed, but they're not unmanageable with the right build, and a trinket (the human racial doesn't work for me at all in bgs/dungeons, but seems to work in the open world). It's a damage issue. To me, at least. I feel like I'm hitting a steel I-beam with a stick I found in the woods

The raid and level 25 cap mean there's really not enough content outside of PvP. I've already ground all the rep and did two lockouts and there's really not much more to do besides level alts or farm gold. The next phase will be a lot better I think because I did have fun but I feel like doing quests past 25 is gimping me for the start of next phase. Even if I get extra gold

@@twalsh05 A lot of the cloth/caster gear has bonus armor on it in BFD. Got bonus armor on weapon, off-hand, neck and gloves. Outside of meta i have 831 armor. in meta i have 3096 armor.

SoD is a weird concept because they are trying so hard to stick to vanilla in all the ways that are bad. Like juggling threat isnt fun. Healers going oom after 2 pulls isnt fun. These are things they could have fixed but didnt. The sad part is this really is just Ascension with worse QoL

As someone who is currently playing TWoW, and have played a healer since the original Vanilla, he's spot on/right. Its a stupid requirement to have for a class, to limit how long it can be played in a single battle. You shouldn't limit the player from engaging with the game (going OOM). Later xpacs were so much more fun as a healer because you didn't have to count on your fingers how many spells you could cast before you could no longer cast spells.
