did you notice, that Jeff is closing his eyes while getting swung at? He even kicks with closed eyes like in 0>51min. it is a pretty bad habit ideal to knock someone out, maybe that is the reason he did not see the backfist coming, he is not relaxed enough

What i respect most about any fighter is not their skill, speed, talent, etc... but how they actually treat their opponent. I know the "goal" is to win, but there are levels even to winning, and how you win is important. The first reaction to seeing you stunned, wasnt blood in the water, but respect and compassion. Just like Ali and Foreman. Foreman said he knew Ali was the greatest when he has the opportunity to hit him on his way down, but didnt. Really glad to have found your channel Jeff Chan. I learn everyday, and you help make me a better martial artist and human.

Marwan's fight showed great range, footwork, and timing! He landed a lot of naked body kicks, kept the other guy at the end of his punches, and I like the parry and angle-off footwork. Spinning backlists can generate so much power. I’m starting to train them more lately. I used to do it for shadowboxing when spinning around for roundhouses. I kind of stopped because in sparring whenever I missed I would just do a side kick when I was in that side stance and it worked well. If you want powerful kicks and keep in mind if you miss you have a gnarly spinning back fist to follow, that can really do some damage. Today shadowboxing I felt my arm stretching and it felt uncomfortable, that’s how powerful it was. I have to work on it, don’t want to hurt myself throwing strikes, that wouldn’t be very productive 😂

The weight class of the opponent definitely shows. He's shrugging off clean hits to the body from kicks and punches to the chin that would stop most jeff's (similar size) opponents in their tracks. This kid is not without his merits, bc he's actually watching and waiting for his chance to go in at the right moment, and capitalizing on those chances nicely. Always love the content Jeff, much love, and hopefully one day I'll get up there.

Ur fighter is very relaxed, and while that gives him coordination and control he is also so laid back that he doesnt really respect punches or distances, he does not get hit much, but straight shots with intention seemed to land hard and flush, both in ur spar and the match. Anyway, a lot of talent, and ur creativity can clearly be see in the kind of fighter he is becoming. Once this relaxed type of athlete get in the right mood its one of the most dangerous. My old coach had a very strange treatment after KO or other head injury: For 2 weeks to a month, whenever you can, put ice on your head. Frequently submerge your head into ice water, like in a salon or spa, for several minutes 2-3 times a day. Eat cold food like ice cream so you get brain freeze. He said some people didn't want to stop all activities for 2 weeks and rest for 6 months, so the alternative is to ice the brain. Don't know how effective it is though, I never compete and never get KO, so never try it...

That was perfect time to use spinning back fist But other than that were def winning the rounds I think you would have done even better engaging fighting in the pocket and relying on punches This punch kick Kick punch and staying out further wasn’t the best strategy for a guy with the traditional Thai style and his height and length In my opinion but you were still winning From my experience, when I spar Guys like that I use a lot of jabs and push them back and use my boxing similar to a Mike Tyson But when there is more distance I move a lot and just use some basic straight line low kicks to negate the guys first attack I do way better than staying on outside or bouncing back out to longer range Once I get in I keep pushing forward Constant pressure and a lot of punches almost every guy with that style do terrible they end up standing straight up and back peddling straight back

I got caught with a spinning back kick once sparring this girl. I kept catching her kicks and I was keeping it light. Instead of countering with punches or sweeping her, I kept trying to go for light, accurate low kicks. Well, I caught her kick and let go because she got into a weird twisted position trying to slide her leg out and while I was waiting for her to reset, she spun around and caught me with a kick. The class went OoOoOoo. 😂😂😂 I blamed it on her not knowing MT etiquette but lesson learned, countering should also be varied. In this case, I waited when I should have feinted.

Yeah.. I almost got hit with a spinning elbow once by a guy who was just two months into training and in his first few sparring sessions. On the one hand, it was a great reminder for me to not get overzealous after my opponent misses a strike, but on the other hand that could've ended really badly if he knew how to execute the spin better. Coaches definitely should be constantly teaching fresh guys the etiquette of sparring. Being a good sparring partner is a skill in itself (just like how being a good pad holder is!).
