An unforgettable experience I learned from my coach, and now I pass it down to my students. Although I was being a bully, all strikes to the head were super controlled and pulled back. Hard to the body 👌, it will only make you tougher, but we need to take care of the brain!

Dude, this gives me PTSD. I remember this one partner I was sparring with. Everytime I threw a jab or cross, he would counter with that kick to my back leg and after a few of them I couldnt walk anymore. That shit is horrible xD

I have had this experience 2 days after destroying my legs in the gym. So all my muscle were sore then I was sparring this experienced fighter. He would always counter with a hard lowkick (dutch style) and I couldn’t feel my legs my nerves were done

Honestly defending against low kicks has been the hardest thing for me to learn. Leg checks (among other things) don't feel natural to me since I have a TKD background, so I've been getting punished by other experienced classmates.

All of your students did such a fantastic job with this! This scenario also provides an easy and controlled introduction to dealing with the pain response in a fight. It's the type of drill where you call each student the next day to make sure that 1. They are still walking 2. They still want to train with you haha.

I remember one class when I was younger we were sparring, focusing on low kicks and checking. My teacher partnered up with me and I was limping for days afterwards. I felt bitter about it until I came back to the next class and he showed me the bruises I'd left him as well. Check those kicks 😬😬

When I was training at Yokkao 4-5 years ago, I was given the honor to spar with Singdam Kiatmookao and that pendulum kick to the rear leg is how he KO'ed me. We were sparring with no shin guards and went pretty heavy so it was especially painful. That kick seriously works and we all should learn to defend it and condition our rear leg against it. (Btw, getting KO'ed by Singdam was the coolest thing that happened to me even to this day. Bragging rights for years, no joke) Great vid, Jeff.

for me the better way of dealing with these kick are the kyokushin fighter they march forward and lower the stance so the impact kind of goes on the kicker, but obiously is the harder way because that means having an iron leg, is more practical to sweep or check.

😂😂😂 I know this very well. My master work for my diploma on sports faculty was "tameshiwari"(breaking stuff) and iron body or "tai kitae" (body conditioning for taking kicks and punches). So I still do the traditional body conditioning where you stand and take blows (of course with out injuries) and punch and kick hard surfaces. But this has to be done according to the level of athlete. There is no point in missing trainings because of a recovery.

Here's a thought. On hit, you give out a sound/scream. After a while, your opponent gets condition to hearing your sound/scream prior to taking your punch. Once that happens, you release a sound/scream, you opponent goes into block mode, but instead of punching him, you try to spot an opening which he is not blocking and hit him there.
