I would lean slightly towards one of the endgame books if we did just one, but How to Reassess Your Chess sounds fascinating. I love the idea of being able to spot and exploit imbalances on the board. Potentially a combo between this and one of the endgame books would be my choice.

26:54 I had a gut feeling that the f pawn is the one to promote into a queen. My only reasoning for that is Ben's infamous line, "don't push the f pawn." Welp, I don't know if I should be happy that I guessed right or not haha

Yes! I vote endgame book of some kind. What I’ve learned from Nelson so far: Opening: I feel like I’ve gotten a good understanding of the opening concepts but less so in theory. And I’ve learned enough openings that I have a small repertoire that I understand well enough. Well… Enough to to get out of the opening phase generally unscathed… generally😅 Middle game: I understand less than the opening. But at least I have a general concept of counting defenders or attackers on central squares. Squares where you or your opponent can strike, and start a sequence of trade-offs. Sacrificing to remove defenders of more important pieces. I understand some tactics. Deflection is difficult to see. I see potential pins, and x-ray attacks more now. But I’m not very good overall. I have learned to do “blunder checks” a lot better though. 🙂 Endgame: Panic 😬

I actually guessed the f7 pawn because I thought what was the least likely pawn to get pushed from black in most situations. I used to play the French defense often and the f7 pawn almost always became a strategic liability and the focus point of my opponent's attack.

Love the series. As a beginner, I don’t have many games that end in the endgame. Walking through master games has been very informative. So I would vote for Fisher’s games. How to reassess your chess also sounds good

I think we should do the endgame books next since this series was mostly for middlegame concepts
@zetacrucis68122 күн бұрын
Definitely Bobby Fisher + some modern chess, which I'm sure covers endgames too. Might be fun to use the latter in combination with the former: look at some of Bobby Fisher's games in the light of what modern analysis might say, and discuss when risks are worth taking e.g., at certain rating levels you can bend the rules and get the upper hand with what might strictly be dubious play at grandmaster level (like what a lot of gambits we love are all about)

I'm all for mixing it up in a rotational way or do 10 each and rotate to the next book. Doing 100 endgames all in a row on a weekly basis would tend to get boring and repetitive but if you're going to go straight through I'd like to see Fischer's games first.

haha I did guess the f pawn in the start and stuck to it throughout, and guess my intuition was right! 25:30 at this moment around I knew the that the two pawns that are advanced are gonna push and get sacrificed to make the path for the f pawn. Also it'd be nice if you cover "how to reassess your chess" as it'd be useful for alot of players since most players struggle with middlegame, including myself.

I'm guessing it's one of the pawns that has done nothing (no moving, no threatening, no protecting) for the entire game that eventually has the room and opportunity to push and become a Queen. Being involved in any action is usually dangerous for pawns. My half random guess is the g pawn promoting on the h file.
@plane15man22 күн бұрын
I had voted for Gerald, as he's the strongest of his siblings (Aaron, Beryl, Carol, Darrell, Erroll, Farrell, and Harold), but then he was ruthlessly sacrificed in order to promote Farrell. You will be dearly missed Gerald.

I voted for John Watson's book. I think that Bobby Fischer has enough fans already to tilt the vote, as well as there's already enough KZbin channels covering every single game of his. A 100-long series of anything seems like commitment too big for both the KZbin audience and the creator. (Although of course you know yourself and your specific audience best.) Kinda the same goes for endgames in general. IMO it's a field of knowledge too big to cover for someone who follows you... Endgame study feels like a journey for which one has to lay out their own plan. Maybe I'm too much into 'vibes', but it seems to me that chess strategy fits best as the topic for a series of videos, hence my choice.

Your channel would always pop up but since you don’t play those openings I wouldn’t watch. Really appreciate it and still got a lot of learning from you to do!

At 2:27 after Qk x Blb why not move the black knight to e4? Set up for an attack on the white knight, or threaten f2 which would force the white King to move, also pins the white knight to the bishop, if white takes the black knight then re-take with the bishop, keep the pin on the white knight, control more of the board and slow down white development.
