Ali, I grew up on an organic farm and I am very familiar with the farm animal/ veg waste compost cycle. Probably because of this I chose to move to the city, far away from all of that. Of course this was before all of this was “cool”. After watching your videos and seeing the beautifully aesthetic manner in which you do all of these country basics, maybe, just maybe you have softened my heart toward country life. 😉 I really enjoy your videos. The quality of them is exceptional and the content useful and captivating. Thank you for creating them and sharing them with us.

😍 I wouldn’t mind gaining some of your knowledge, i’m sure when the time is right you will re-visit it. The City provides so much that the countryside doesn’t, swings and roundabouts…

Beautiful coop. I line mine with a piece of floor linoleum which can be taken out and washed, the nesting boxes with cardboard which I compost. I once had a shock infestation of red mites and apart from online recommendations of burning the coop, I came across a simple solution and have never had a problem since. Get a large bunch of oregano and crush it in vegetable oil, brush and rub on perches and all open wood surfaces in the coop. They were hiding in some composite wood supporting either end of the of the perches. Smothered them in oregano oil! I now rub the wood every 3-4 months with this oil solution, it also makes them look beautiful 😊 Thanks for sharing your lovely garden.

I still cannot believe that you do not have a fencing cloth over the top of the chickens enclosure. Here in California we always have a “roof” over the top of their enclosure. We have coyote, birds of prey and so many other things would come in an jump back out with one of your precious chicks. I’m sure you have done your research.

My favourite video to date as you appear relaxed, joyful and playful. Your girls are clearly happy and content, signs of a caretaker who has put the time and energy in to making them feel comfortable and safe. My concern is your breathing in the dust while cleaning and again while emptying the contents from the coop into your compost bin. Wearing a well-fitting mask protects your health now and in the future. Remember that facial hair can greatly impact the effectual fitting of a protective mask. Than-q for sharing this lovely aspect of your life. Be well! With gratitude and grace!

I’m a bit smitten with that metal “shovel” your using to scrape out the coop. 👍🏻 Your hens are far more patient in the morning than mine…. my girls are very eager to run about the yard. I raised the chicks indoors where they were exposed 4 times each day to my dog. This way, both the dog and my hens are completely comfortable with each other. You’ve got a great enclosure for the safety of your hens. Enjoyed your video! And yeah, you’re not the only one who talks to your chickens! 🤣🤣

You are very lucky to have your climate, I have to struggle with ice and snow😊, and off course the freezing temperature. What desinfectant do you use? I use Dettol, which I learned to know since my time in UK. I breed chickens for showing, so I use Dettol to disinfect eggs, as well as the incubators with it. One thing I would discouraged you from, is to feed your birds outside of the Coop, you might attract mice etc. Greetings from an icy Norway 😊
