Hi Lauren, another great video! As much as I love the mountains (for bicycling in the summer, not for skiing in the winter), I also love the islands. It's magical when you stand at the beach in the dark and you can spot the lights on the other islands over the waves. And by day, the "Weite" is breathtaking and gives you that feeling of freedom. And it doesn't even matter whether it's sunny or foggy or rainy. The sea is never the same, and it's never getting boring. Take care!

@mogon721 Жыл бұрын
@@LaureninGermany By the way, when you eventually take a break from the flat lands, I recommend exploring your new possibilites with the camper to the fullest and enjoying a few summer nights in the high mountains. My favorite places are #1 and #3(or 4) of the highest (road) passes in the alps. The Col du Galibier at 2642 m next to the road between Grenoble and Briançon where there is a good spot for parking right on the pass with beautiful views into the adjacent valleys and the mountain ranges, and the Col de l'Iséran, at 2762 the highest place for parking your camper overnight. I would practice a bit lower first, though, to get the body adapted to the height. ;-) The Col du Lautaret right at the foot of the Galibier, with only 2000 m, for instance. If you travel during the off-season, even those spots are not as overrun as you might think, and the morning hours are quiet anyway. And France is a camper-van paradise with many free places for RVs. Another wonderful spot is the Mont Ventoux, the giant of the Provence at "only" 1912 m, but towering 1600 m above the rolling hills of wine and lavender. There is a very nice spot for campers not far below the summit, and it's just as magic there in the night as it is on the islands because you can see all the towns and villages in the plane. On good days, you can also see the sea from the top of the mountain. Also, not far from the area, there are places like Avignon, Orange, Nime with the Pont du Gard around the corner, and Arles, which I guess has a special ring to it for a professional singer. ;-) In the other direction, there is the grandiose Gorges de la Nesque, a beautiful place on its own right. Take care!

This sounds absolutely wonderful - I have made a note of it all and will have a proper look later. I would imagine I can find cool air there in the hot months? Thank you, Mogon!
@mogon721 Жыл бұрын
@@LaureninGermany Indeed, you'll find cool air in amounts that may require warm bedding. ;-) In that altitude, it can be freezing in the night even in hot summers. So, good heating by day is nice, and warm bedding highly recommended. But it's no problem if you follow the forecast. Usually, I go there in May/June and September/October to avoid the high seasons, and that means that I may run into bad luck and the passes are closed for snow. That can even happen on the much less high Ventoux. But it's notorious for its quick and harsh weather changes. It carries its name for a reason, and that's one of the perks it has for bicycling. It's one of the four mountains of the highest category of the Tour and the only one that is not a pass but a real summit. Last time I was there with my bike, I arrived in dense fog and a wind from the side that made me ride - very slowly - almost in a 45° angle. That's the experiences you'll never forget. ;-) And regarding heat, I remember a bicycle tour up the Pico Veleta just 30 km from Granada. Close to 40°C down in town, and when I arrived at 3390 m on the summit when the sun set, it was literally freezing. The right clothing is everything. ;-). Spain is an area that I have to explore more. My fist glimpse into it was great. From the Pyrenees down to the Sierra Nevada, and through the half deserts that look like Monument Valley in Nevada/USA. And the Sierra Nevada is really beautiful. You'll see all the climate zones on the way up, from mediterranean to high alpine. I even came across some ibexes on the road who didn't expect some idiot cycling up there in the evening. ;-) And one shouldn't forget, it's just about 50 km from the southern coast of Spain. Africa is not far. Take care!

Thank you, Peter. I´m well again, and trying to work out how to keep my garden under control, whilst making sure the insects have plenty of shelter and food. Are the big bumble bees also female? I noticed one flew down into a mouse hole in my garden. They´re very peaceful and I think she just wanted to sleep in there? I left the dandelions everywhere. I heard that they are not good food for the bees, but I wonder if that´s anti-dandelion propoganda? I hope it´s not annoying that I always want to ask you so many bee questions!

@@LaureninGermany Hi Lauren, I'm glad you are well again! I'm having issues with my replies, for some reason they just vaporize and don't show up. PLEASE never hesitate to ask me questions, I enjoy the interactions. It sounds like your garden is a paradise for critters and yourselves. Yes, most of the bumble bees are female, they live in very small hives and usually live in the ground. They are great for pollinating plants that bees can't pollinate. For example, blueberry blossoms are usually too deep for bees to reach the nectar. Bumble bees however have long tongues and have no trouble reaching into deep blossoms. Regarding dandelions not being good for bees, I never heard that and can't imagine there is any weight behind this. We have quite a few dandelions plants here in NW Oregon and have never observed any issues with bees. Also, when I grew up around the Fichtelgebirge, I remember fields of nothing but dandelions, loaded with bees. The farmers were selling honey and pollen paddies that contained mostly wildflower nectar and pollen.

@@mixup12522 "well, right now it’s called US customary units." 🤔 "...right now..?" That's an odd choice of words. The Imperial System has local, historical roots going back as far as the Roman Empire. As the Roman Empire fell, it was adopted by the then-rising _British_ Empire, and as that spread around the world, it merged many _local_ jurisdictions with their own, _unique_ systems of measurement. To help these jurisdictions deal with each other, standardization became necessary, so the Imperial System was fleshed out. That which we call "the Imperial System" was the first globally-adopted system of measurement. You say the US uses the _precursor_ to the Imperial System? Which one?

I didn’t make it for tea this time, I was going to on Spiekeroog! Sorry for the trickery… have to do it 🤦🏻♀️I need 10k people like you and the gang who’s always got my back 🤗

Phew, please don't use such catchy video titles. While I'm slowly getting used to titles like "we are leaving Germany" and know that it doesn't mean a permanent leave, your title really shocked me as I thought something really bad happened and you were forced to leave. It might be cultural, but for a moment it was a real shock for me. Luckily with the provided content I was able to calm down. It seems that I react more emotionally the older I get. I think I need a shot now, even though I rarely drink alcohol.

Oh, nooo, Opa Andre, I am so sorry to do this to you. How´s this: if anything serious happens, I will message you, I promise. I have to do these shocking titles, because even my regular viewers click less, if I just do something unsensational. My last video had 69% less views. It breaks my heart, I am so worried that my channel will fizzle out.

@@LaureninGermany Yes, I know that unfortunately it is necessary nowadays to create the necessary attention. Times have changed. I love your offer to inform myself in advance, so DEAL! With my favorite KZbinrs, I check out all the posts as soon as I become aware of them anyway. And even though I can't compare their channels because of the sometimes very different content, I can say for sure that you are in the Top 5.

Gut gespielt.

Hah... had to leave? Wait... did you drive through the North and had to take a road that took you via Denmark? Or the Netherlands? Borkum! It's a Borkum video! ❤🎉

@@LaureninGermany thank God for the Schengen agreement! Can you imagine the hassle if you were trying to cross border checks with a WoMo and two dogs? What a pretty tea kettle you have in your WoMo! I bet it was a blessing having your own little home on wheels when you started to feel off.
@LaureninGermany Жыл бұрын
@@sisuguillam5109 it was. When Franz took the dogs for a walk on the journey back home, I could lie down. Goldwert! Yes, isn’t the kettle cute?! The whistle makes me feel happy (ask me again with a migraine 😆) And it’s just amazing having my little cabin with me. Perfect for my job. I find dragging cases in and out of guest houses exhausting, and I almost always feel the need to clean the rooms somewhat, too.

@@LaureninGermany the kette is adorable. And surely will do its best to be quite when your head hurts! I am really happy that the WoMo is giving you autonomy in a work situation where that is very rare - and privacy!

@@kameishasdragon2206 I had not heard of this. I looked it up after seeing your comment. How abysmal! I would not have gone to Borkum if I had known that they have no problem with men violently beating women.
