My mom rented a truck on Turo to haul some furniture away. She tells the guy she needs it to haul stuff. He says it is good to go. A workhorse Dodge 2500 Big Horn. Truck shows up and the bed is trashed. Empty cans, jugs of old milk, trash, cement bags, wood chunks, dirt. Everything. None of the tires natch. Then she went to drive it to the dumpster to clean it out, the truck is in limp mode. Can't exceed 30 mph. The guy accused her of breaking it. He said she started it before the glowplugs were ready. Something he diagnosed over the phone. She got her money back, but it took 2 weeks.

I'm searching for job now while dealing with dizziness. I wasted two years going to school for animation. The most I've done is work at Pixar as an intern in the Bay Area, I worked at Deck Nine Games, and Brazen animation. Other than that, this career isn't going anywhere. It’s the Turo fees that did it for me. It’s insane that they charge fees that are just as much as the entire rental. Turo’s making as much money as the Car owners while not putting up any of the liability. The owner uses their own car and pays for the insurance by cutting into their own profits. Not saying it would solve situations like this, but if more car owners were making more of a profit from an increase of users and a higher percentage take home, they’d probably be more likely to take care of routine maintenance more often instead of trying to stretch it like this
@blanesmith47905 ай бұрын
In the UK you are liable for any vehicle you get in, doesn't matter if you borrow it from a friend, just bought it in a private sale, hired it or bought it from a dealership, you are meant to do a walk around and do certain checks EVERY time you get in a car, expected to check all the lights are working as expected, tires are safe and have good tread, no new chips or cracks in the windscreen and nothing ready to fall off and injure passing pedestrians or cause damage to another vehicle, nobody ever does any of it but it's expected and if you get stopped by VOSA (Vehicle & Operator Services Agency) who do spot checks and your vehicle has a bald tyre for example VOSA can put 3x points on your license (12x and your license is revoked) and up to a £2,500 fine PER TYRE so if you're running 4x bald tyres, straight away license is gone and you could have up to a £10,000 fine!

This happened to me on the freeway, but luckily I was able to get it to a tire shop before it got too bad. The owner wanted to only replace one tire with the cheapest option available. The car itself was a keybox rental and had several cosmetic issues (which actually worked to my benefit bc of my friend's stupid parking garage). I was told I would be comped for the tire and my time, but I was only comped for the tire. TL;DR this really does happen, so check the car out before you take it

Turo's insurance coverage is awful because if you read into the fine print, it doesn't cover the full value of the vehicle, and you're paying eye popping prices for their insurance. Unfortunately most personal insurance companies won't extend towards your Turo rental, since it's not considered a normal rental car company (like Hertz or Alamo). Be careful out there!

Maybe turo should require rental owners to bring their car in for a periodical safety check. I work at a Mavis--- but this applies to most tire shops-- you can bring your car in absolutely free of charge and we will inspect: •Brakes •Suspension •Tires •Battery •Wipers •Filters All of these thing wear out and are generally quick and easy to replace, while having high profit margins. So these jobs are the bread and butter of your local tire shops. Inspections of that degree are almost always free.
