The last funeral I was asked to do, I didn't know the person. When I got the call, she says to me "The deceased was a street dude, so the family doesn't wanna be fake and do a church song or anything about heaven". I went to a black funeral once. They are nothing like a white funeral. We sing a couple songs, the pastor says something and it’s usually over pretty quick. We usually sniffle quietly. Back in 1992 my boyfriend (husband) had a college friend who died in a car accident. He asked me to go to the funeral with him. I didn’t know his friend but I went. It was long, they sang many songs, the pastor was up there for a long time and 2 people were saved. Then the family got up there and started talking about him. I was bawling. Everyone was. It was so personal and emotional. I’ve never experienced anything like that before.
