Hi, physical therapist (and almost Osteopath) here. The first half of this video was quiet good and accurate. BUT! There are hundreds possible causes of bad posture (hips, feet, diaphragm system, fascia chains Dysfunktions, skull Dysfunktions, C section, any kind of old operation anywhere, just to name a few). That said, offer ONE solution like a set of exercises for everybody is so a huge approximation and probably for many many cases will be just wrong, because every patient is unique, and so should be the solution in correlation with finding the root cause. For everyone with a bad posture reading my comment: please don't search and try some universal solution on the internet, just go see a professional and let him find the best way to help you specifically. Otherwise you risk in the best case to lose a lot a time, worst case to make things even worse.

iv found that posture focused corrective exercises are a compliment to constant body awareness. It also requires being able to relax the parts of the body where i hold tension (neck, jaw, shoulders, low back) Its no good doing such exercises fantastically every day without utilising the gains the other 99% of the time. Ive found that nothing puts me into better posture as easy and fast as my childhood ballet positions; engages glutes, puts my hips into neutral, foot weight placement corrects, neck-hips less curved, shoulders relax. So now i slip that posture into micro moments throughout the day, such as when filling up my water filter, brushing teeth, making a brew.

This fixed my posture. But i also did alota weight lifting(especially when it comes to core and backstrength; abdominis, obliques, backextender, traps) and streching(mainly weighted; my rom i pretty huge in comparison to the people i know) But this is just additional work i do for other purposes. I mainly fixed it by forcing myself to stand and sit straight. I have to stand like 9h at work and we are told to stand straight, which made me overdo it. After some uncomfortable weeks (due to fact that my muscles weren t used to be in that position for quiet some time) i usually stand straight and when i dont, i immediatly notice and fix it. Even when i m all the way done/exhausted. I dont think those exercises he recommends will change you posture in the long run. In the moment of exercising and maybe emmidiatly after. But changing ur posture will take dedication and consistency. I get so many compliments on my posture and i just feel like so much better. Keep it up guys

If you train your hip to be neutral, and your tighening your transversus there is no problem. You can then use the belly breathing as much as possible, as it is the best way to release the diaphragm and to excret serotonin. thoracical breathing is also better than pectoral breathing.

The vast majority of the population has posterior pelvic tilt. The correct way to stand up tall (and this is a correct cue) is to stand up with one's nose to a wall and move one's nose up. The shoulders should go up and forward and the tailbone (usually) up and back.

Honestly pretty sure that standing so exaggeratedly upright and having my spinal curves flatten, and then also trying to look down from that position, is to blame for me developing a reverse cervical curve 🤷♂ Conor’s live biomechanics course seriously helped me open my eyes to how i should actually be at rest and when walking around, its been a process but its been incredibly helpful! Not standing with that extreme positioning makes me feel like im slouching, but its totally a normal looking posture when I look in a mirror lol

Bro, to be quite honest with you, I like the video, and to some extent I get it the one thing you didn’t go over is the reason as to why these things keep happening outside of your physicalness I guess, one of the biggest reasons is because number one it looks like you’re more slumped and not confident and while you kind of somewhat spoke about it, I felt like he didn’t speak about it enough and the other one which is a really big reason at least within my family is because they don’t want you to grow a hunchback and you never mentioned anything about a hunchback, so how do you fix or how do you prevent somebody from getting a hunchback?

0:54 youre supposed to straighten your lower back by angling your pelvis forward, this engages core muscles and takes pressure off your lower spine O he actually address this a min later however, still, this guy has no credibility in this I disagree w this mainly bc he provided no alternative.. 'dont stand up straight, do these exercises and keep regular posture' ?? I have a spinal fusion bc of my scoliosis which still burdens me everyday bc my muscles are the root issue not my spine, standing up straight is still the best posture if you aren't walking and shifting weight, I always feel I breathe better when I am fully extended so this guy has no clue what he is talking ab bc no pro athlete has ever said they avoid standing up too straight in order to breathe better wtf, olympic swimmers and runners would have figured it out by now if it mattered in any significant metric He essentially saying theoretically your lungs need space in the back to expand more and theoretically you standing up too straight lessens that so theoretically your breathing is worse, except he didn't say theoretically and presented everything as a fact and sure by themselves they have truth but the conclusions he draws are baseless bc there are no numbers showing anything Any posture that takes work off of your bones and puts it onto your muscles is going to be more sustainable than anything else, engage your core by tilting your pelvis in and engage as many back and other chest muscles you can to stabilize your upper body, your neck posture is also very important as those muscles have a lot more control on shoulders and upper back than a lot of ppl realize

I don't understand. What are these exercises supposed to do? How do these exercises translate into better posture? How is it different or better than straightening your spine and why is the straightening your spine bad if you want a straighter spine? Also criticizing a straight posture but not giving clear guidelines for what a good posture is feels like a copout.
