I HATED Ford Motor Company - Until THIS Happened!

Back in January of 2022 I had to pay $6300 to fix a coolant intrusion problem in my 2017 Ford Escape with a 1.5l ecoboost. The motor only had 30,000 miles. My Escape was 2 weeks past the factory 50 k mile 5 year powertrain warranty.
I was angry and mad at Ford Motor Company and said in a video that even though I was a Ford fan and had owned many Fords in my lifetime and restored 3 classic Mustangs, I would never buy a use or new Ford unless they did the right thing. Well, Ford Motor Company did the right thing. I received a letter from Ford Motor Company in July of 2022 stating that it was a design flaw on their part that caused all of these repairs and they would be refunding costumers who had to pay out of pocket.
I am no longer mad at Ford Motor Company.
I will buy a Ford again. It will probably be a Ford Maverick.

My wife and I just went through this with our 2018 Escape. Dealer quoted us 7500-8000 for engine replacement. Called Ford to see what they could do since it's a design flaw. Ford told us sorry we are not offering any recalls or refunds. We will never buy a Ford again unless their quality and customer service improves.

I am in EXACTLY the same boat. Ford said I am lucky that I was able to get as many miles on it that I did. LUCKY? This is a design flaw & they will not make it right.

My understanding is that the recall only applies to vehicles showing signs of coolant intrusion up to 7 years or 84,000 miles. After that, anyone with issues relating to the design flaw are on their own. I bought a 2019 that almost certainly has the flawed motor in it and it has 71000 miles on it now. Once I put 13000 more miles on it, I am on my own. If there is an admitted design flaw, why isn't Ford recalling all the affected motors no matter what instead of leaving some owners out in the cold?

Scott, Ford's answer to this major engineering mistake was to extend the warranty on these engines to 7 years or 84,000 miles. I am happy that Ford covered this repair for you but that does nothing for all the rest of us that purchased these cars new and had the engines fail at 103,000 miles. This is their mistake. There are thousands of people that have been screwed by Ford because of these engines and they will NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD!!!

I am with you. I bought a 2016 escape titanium brand new, wife wanted it. Coolant intrusion 120k . New long block is their answer for the fix. Quoted 12 grand. Told them nope, car is not even worth that. Bought a 4RUNNER instead. I will NEVER buy another FORD. I have 4 other cars, all still run great. 2 have had head gasket replaced no problems. 89 Silverado, 95 camaro, 95 Jeep wrangler and 05 subaru. All better cars than that POS ESCAPE 2.0l.

This happend to a friend of mine with a 2018 Escape 3 weeks ago. Coolant bottle empty, white smoke coming from the tailpipes and a misfire on cylinder number 2. She traded it in for a 2021 Subaru Forester. She was honest and told them what was wrong and the took it anyway. The dealer even threw in a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain. Ford should be ashamed.

Ford sending you a check doesn't negate the fact that they put out a crap product. I purchased an F250 with the 6.0 diesel and it was such a lemon that Ford bought it back at the full price I paid for it. That didn't compensate me for the 9 months of hell, the truck breaking down without warning numerous times, and having to drive a rental car for most of the time while the dealer was trying to figure out how to fix the endless interacting issues with the engine. I will never have another Ford even if someone gave it to me.

I like your channel but this review was bought and paid for and doesn't reflect Fords overall attitude at all. It's nice they did this for you, and that they have a Customer.Satisfsction program but this should be a recall plain and simple. There's nothing being done to help the many many many people whom they're NOT sending checks to. I, like many others, have a busted Escape thst Ford is unwilling to help with.

It's a shame one has to be in the public eye for Ford to actually pay up for their own fault. I am reallycurious what will happen if I experience the same problem with my Kuga after the warranty period.

This (same exact problem) just happened to our 2.0L at 85K miles. I bought the extended warranty when I purchased and juts got my car back home with a brand new motor, $100(ish) deductible. Still not happy it happened at all but I smell a class action lawsuit coming. I feel bad for folks that are living with this problem without realizing there is a problem, and adding on the miles.

Had to replace my 2.0L in my 2015 Escape for the same thing. Coolant intrusion. Dealerships said they couldn't do anything since there was no recall. I had to replace it out of pocket. That second engine was used and ultimately experienced the same failure.

I would not recommend anyone buying a Ford. My purchased new 2018 Ford Escape was recalled three times in three years. I had it in the Ford Service Dept. Several times more for a Axle and computer problems. The Ford Service Dept. Was terrible and Corporate was as bad. DO NOT BUY FORD. FORD STOLE MY FREE VIP MEMBER OIL CHANGES WHY? My engine blew up after 15,000 miles.

Bought a lightly used lincoln MKC. 3 weeks after we bought it, engine (2.0l ecoboost) did the same intrusion. Took 2 months for the engine to come in. Also had a bad transmission. They dont know when that will come in. Been at the shop since August 17th, now march 23rd. Over 6 months for our newly purchased lincoln. DONT BUY FORD!

While they acknowledge their design flaw, they didn't cover all the model years and engine sizes that have this coolant problem. Fusions from all the way back in 2013 have had this problem.

While my 2017 Escape was in the shop for the same problem in Aug 2022 I received the same letter. After some haggling the dealership and Ford agreed to replace the short block, reimbursement for my Ubers and finally a free rental car. The CSP 21N12 covered it. It took about 3 months but everything is great now. I'll still never buy another Ford.

Exactly. I traded in my ‘17 Escape before anything happened, but I didn’t want to take the chance. I also have been turned off to Ford because besides this, there is a design flaw in the 3.5/3.7 engine with the water pump. I had that problem in a Mazda CX9. So, no more Fords for me. Their engine designs are terrible. Stupid cost cutting designs instead of doing it the right way to begin with.

Way to go Ford. I just bought yet another Ford product a few days ago and it is a 2018 Ford Edge which could eventually have the coolant intrusion issue happen at any time. I hope Ford decides to own up to the fault if it ever happens to me. I even recommended my daughter buy a Ford Escape back in 2019 as her first new car purchase. I have been buying Ford products consistently since my first 1979 Ford Landau car. I will never buy Ford new or used again if my engine or my daughter'sengine fails due to the coolant intrusion issue. It is a fault and there really should be a recall on all engines. The very least they an do is replace them if they fail. Thanks for the video

I have a 2017 Ford Fusion SE 1.5L ecoboost. Just experienced coolant intrusion of cylinder 3 resulting in the coolant being burned up depleting the coolant reservoir and overheating the engine. It happened on a long stretch of mountain road with no shoulder amd I had a semi behind me. Got lucky and made it to a section where I could get off to the side as main concern there went from the heads overheating to not getting killed!! I am upside down on fhe car and the shop it is at in Johnson City TN billed it at just over 9,000 to fix. The car has 129,000 on it. If Ford won't do anything I'm up the creek.

When I went with the $30000 cash I had saved to buy my next car, I thought I'd do the right thing and buy American and I never heard of this years-long easily-avoided manufacturing flaw. Sure glad mine's a 2020- I believe the head gasket flaw was corrected by then but I'm still not very confident in it because ofthe two turbochargers.

I LOVE the Maverick! Get the EcoBoost XLT or better and you will love it. It's fast. It's easy to drive. The tailgate folds down to make it a 6 foot bed. It's the ultimate utility sport vehicle. Only real downside is it has car like seats. It drives like a small SUV and has very good handling for a truck.
