Putting a medium in paint is not faking a blend. It's one of the techniques of blending . There's no cheating in painting in the end, just techniques.
@The_WarL0rd_Way3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you can call it cheating. I know of a certain youtuber that has a segment called "Hobby Cheating" where he demonstrates techniques. If it cuts the time you spend and it still looks awesome, it feels like cheating! 😁
@seanrydell1123 жыл бұрын
"There's no cheating in painting" i say, as I dunk a batch of orks into a 5 gallon bucket of green exterior paint
@gman15153 жыл бұрын
I do something similar with my orkz. No medium added to the mix but a rapid fire of thin coats of paint slowly mixing in lighter and lighter colors until I've gone from a dark olive drab in the shadows to a nice bright light green at the highlights. No blending needed just enough thin coats that you can't see the edges from more than 3 inches away. It doesn't take forever either since each coat is dry by the time you are ready with the next one

Where does it state in the rules of miniature warfare that painting is even required, let alone ‘cheating.’ Cheating appears to imply that there is a taking part in some form of competition or game, after all.

What was your reasoning behind using watered down black as opposed to a black wash such as nuln oil?

the watered-down black paint made everything evenly darker, a black wash would have left the surfaces mostly the same and the recesses dark black.

Was always complemented for my Warmachine Protectorate of Menoth army. It had a cream + golden style. Not too clean of a paintjob, and i was never too happy with it. But it seemed to be enough to fish for compliments, so I was fine. Until I entered a major tournament that went over several days, including a paining competition. Was really excited to show off my army only to realize i wasn't even close to scoring top 3 in the painting competition. So I made a choice to paint over all the muddy gold trims with high contrast red (With purple shadows and magenta filter, what a revelation!), and the details in Paines Black to give some blue-ish contrast, and now the army is really popping, and actually worth winning some painting prices. Not scoring in the initial tournament was a real bummer. And it made me hate my own army for some time. But also made me step up my game a few notch, and now I'm really happy with it again. Sometimes it just takes a step in the right (or wrong!) direction to realize you're capable of something cool. And the result almost never disappoints. Keep up the good work, EoB!

GSC have some awesome models but as someone who was used to painting tau and tyranids, GSC Neophytes and Acolytes, has so many details. Pistol holsters, grenades, flares, kneepads, cables on their armor. It is too bad abberants are a bit overcosted points wise cuz they are such a cool model.
@Malygon3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, way too many details for what is basically chaff units. I wanted to start painting mine back in April but I went way too overboard with the color scheme and while I did end up painting a test model of a Neophyte that came out amazing the amount of work necessary to finish an army would've been simply too much.
