The entire reason 80s and early 90s movies and television are so great is because of real stunts and practical effects. CGI is great when it cleans up practical effects.
@CuteKiller3138 ай бұрын
something I really miss from those eras is real blank firing guns, I get that it's a safety thing but modern gunfights in shows/movies are so obviously fake, they look worse than a Freddie Wong youtube video from 2012 with obvious CGI muzzleflash and smoke with sometimes the slide/bolt action or casings ejecting not even being put in at all and the actors doing an embarrassing job of pretending there's recoil, same for the dodgy CGI for blood and impacts on walls that used to be practical squibs too

Kinda.. A-Team made a bit of a mockery of real 'effects' but generally the Fall Guy series was a great premise and pretty well executed with humour, drama, romance and suspense. Seems like the movie is a good representation of that.

@@donkeysaurusrex7881 Passengers was a horrible movie with a terrible message. But the bigger point I was making was how the trailers were deliberately crafted to make it look like the two primaries were isolated heroes trying to save a sabotaged ship in the middle of space, and the movie was nothing like that. Instead, the movie was about a malfunction that condemned a man to crippling isolation until he selfishly forced a woman he didn't even know into the exact same fate. Worst of all was how they didn't have children to live on after them, but instead they left a garden as some kind of proof of life. If the best thing you are capable of leaving behind is a garden, then that's not so bad. But if you are capable of having children and through them creating a positive impact on the world, but instead you choose to waste that potential, then that's a horrible, evil choice. No garden will ever do anything good, like discover the cure for cancer. Only someone's child is capable of that. People solve people's problems and make people's lives better. We as humans oversimplify things to keep from getting mentally bogged down, but few things are 100% good or bad. Good medicine often tastes bad. Talented people can have criminal proclivities. Let the sad little people crow, if that is what it takes for them to get through the day. I have not seen this film so I could be way off base here. But IF this is based off the old TV series, then the stunt man is also a bounty hunter. Being a bounty hunter then it makes sense to have the producer go to the stunt man to ask him to find the star. BTW thanks for the review, I will try to see this soon. Decent entertainment coming out of Hollywierd is rare. Remember a lot of Hollywierd movies have leftover elements from their original premise that do not make sense in the final movie since the element the premise came from was removed, but the link to that element is left in because of lazy editing / (re)writing.

Honestly enjoyed the movie more than almost anything I've seen lately (besides Kdramas). Can't wait to watch it on DVD with bonus extras and BTS. Ryan Gosling plays the everyman and the chivalric hero at the same time with a grounded, sweet charm and a desire to have a purpose. Emily Blunt's character doesn’t act like she has to prove herself as a woman. She's just a professional trying to succeed in her first big film... and the one person who uses her gender as a manipulation tactic gets punched in the face. She's not a horrible person, she's just mad at her ex... and she does start to come around. Also, by the time she starts throwing punches, I've already accepted that this stunt guy could do all these crazy stunts, unstaged in real life, so I can accept that she can do that too. The stunts were phenomenal. The witty banter was great. The meta references were awesome. The romance was a nice glue to hold it all together. The plot was delightfully wacky. And it nods to the audience as if to say "you're right... Hollywood is full of weird and awful people, and they don't necessarily like the audience, but there are still some of us who care about the magic of cinema. We get it, and we are on your side. You're not a nihilism-consuming dog in search of bacon hiding a forced message. You want fun, you want action, spectacle, humor, a little bit of love, and a movie that doesn't hate you. Also a bit of gratuitous shirtless Gosling for the ladies. Here you go." Some of my favorite jokes or moments were the split screen discussion, Crying to Taylor Swift's Infamous teqrjerker, All Too Well; the Amber/Johnny joke combined with a nod to recasting Jason Momoa; Colt criticizing movies for trying to sell nihilism as a viable worldview and pointing out that his agent just compared the audiences to dogs eating up "the message" as long as it's wrapped in bacon; the producer getting punched after pulling the feminism card; and Colt calling from the boat when he's about to die.

It features a brave and honourable warrior who due to betrayal of his English uncle in his childhood loses his family and is raised up by Vikings. I can also highly recommend another classic 1980 movie: The Stuntman. The Fall Guy Seems to be wearing the lamp shade of being a prequel to the original series establishing the "Fall guy bail bonds and detective agency". Failures to HONESTLY recapture the nostalgia train are: CHiPS Starsky and Hutch The Dukes of Hazzard The A-Team 21 Jump Street Because these productions were more interested in satirising the original material.5

@BelMarduksBizarreBazaar8 ай бұрын
My first exposure to the term was in d&d. Two players started talking about what they knew from a prior campaign about a monster. The dm told them to stop the meta and roll insight for their character. It was outside of what they (as characters) would know in world.
@Kanudelgruber8 ай бұрын
"Meta" means "self-referential". It's when a movie/show/etc. acknowledges the fact that it's a movie/show/etc.
@RepressedObeseCat8 ай бұрын
Expanding on Eidolon1's and BelMarduks explanations, Meta was originally a tech way of saying "additional" or "good to know but not function related" as computer file formats evolved ("metadata"). E.g., like owner, user, creation date and last change date on an spreadsheet file, or geographic location and camera details on a jpeg file. Meta-studies are where researchers will take a group of separate but related studies, filter out the studies where the differences between the data collected are to disparate for the studies to be accepted as comparable, and draw a conclusion outside the scope of the original studies - its a way to do a study without the expense/hassle of collecting data.

My problem is CGI has be come the duct tape of movie making. They just use it and not learn how to do it well.
@RepressedObeseCat8 ай бұрын
Don't blame the tool when the craftsman is at fault - focus on first causes. If you've followed KZbin content critical of Disney films (Pixar, MCU, Lucasfilm et al.) over the past three years, duct tape movie making comes from trying to salvage films that don't test well. And that usually comes from not putting effort into crafting an audience friendly and filmable script. Duct tape film making has only become possible because CGI has become cheaper (than rebuilding sets), and CGI allows movies to do things that aren't possible with conventional tradecraft (like suicidal stunts and de-aging iconic actors). CGI is overused for the same reason voice overs and close ups are overused - bad writing and untalented directors. Duct tape movie making isn't going to end until studios become more success oriented - hire directors and screenwriters based on their history and not their ideology, and track costs.

I really think you guys should have people on your show. They disagree with you and like some thing that you don’t or vice versa. It would be a more interesting conversation than just everyone agreeing with each other, which is just intellectual masturbation.

The film that I would see as good movies are Godzilla C kong the new empire and dune part 2 I even went to see Godzilla X kong the new empire with my friends and I love it but I could see why fallguy might get some love even if I don’t want to see it

Fallout was a good show, with some plot holes and stupid characters but still a good show.

That scene from Invincible season 2 worked and was one of the best best parts of the entire show because it’s true. It didnt pull me out of anything. The show is a heavy satire and that was one of the best moments. All animated shows do it. Even Batman The Animated Series does it.
