Good Omens is one of my favorite books! I was afraid the TV show wouldn't do it justice, but they did a very good job of adapting it. I don't know that I would say the book is slower but it is more nuanced perhaps? And I really enjoyed So You Want to Talk About Race - very helpful. I just finished Clap When You Land - what a wonderful book.

Talk about book buying problems...I’ve bought almost 300 books in the past 3 months alone 🙈🙈🙈🙈 .................. In regards To Normal People, I struggled a bit figuring out my thoughts when I was filming my May wrap up which included Normal People, but overall I loved it! It was a little frustrating at some parts (which I believe is intentional, goes with the story) but otherwise great. I binged the series the night after reading the book which I recommend you do! The representation of anxiety, I believe, was done very well both in the book as well as the show. On another note, I’m Saudi, so Henna Wars sounds interesting to me too!! Sounds like it would be a light and fun read (I hope).

I love American Gods and Neverwhere! I hope you enjoy them. I also agree the Good Omens is slower than the show (and there's more time spent with side characters in the middle of the book when really I wanted more Crowley and Aziraphale) but I still enjoyed it overall! I read it years ago and then re-read last year before the the show premiered.

Hahah “I’m an uncultured swine and have never read Toni Morrison” 😂😂 I read Beloved recently in my AP Lit class and it was extremely powerful and incredible. I highly recommend the audiobooks because Toni Morrison herself reads them and she has just the most perfect voice and since she is narrating her own writing she reads it the way she intended it to be heard so it’s an amazing experience.💗

for indigenous authors i highly recommend naomi fontaine, she is an innu quebec author and i just looked it up and sadly i think only one of her books was translated from french into english, kuessipan, but i read the book and saw the movie adaptation and it was amazing, highly recommend it/her!! the book is more fragments of life in this innu community but the movie builds a whole story around it and it’s amazing. i also recommend natasha kanapé fontaine, also an innu quebec author, she is a poetess and i saw her perform live and it was superb, i see a few of her poetry has been translated into english but also a non fiction book called « kuei, my friend : a conversation about race and reconciliation » that i haven’t read yet BUT have heard nothing but praise about ^_^

Hi. Thanks for the recommendations. I do read adult lit, but I've been on the fence about Normal People as there seem to be as many people who love it as don't. I'll be interested to see what you think. Kim at Native Lady Book Warrior is a brand new indiginous creator. She hauled a lot of indiginous authors in today's video. She also reads a lot of fantasy. I'm really liking her videos. Andreea at Infinite Text, and who is also Canadian, posted a great video last week listing some of her favorite indiginous authors. Hope this helps.

Beloved by Toni Morrison is one of my favorite of her books. I first encounter her writing well, well over a decade ago as I was getting my undergrad in American Lit. Beloved was the first book I read by her and her writing just blew me away. Maybe it was because I was a new mom at the time, but thinking about this book still gives me chills. It is haunting and raw and real. "Beloved You are my sister You are my daughter You are my face; you are me I have found you again; you have come back to me You are my beloved You are mine You are mine" Normal People, was...something. Still can't formulate real thoughts or feelings on it, but I get it's literary value as far as the writing goes. Unlike fantasy where I can suspend belief and fall in love with or hate characters, this is slice of life for these two main characters and I couldn't relate to either of them. It felt like a lot of privileged whining to me, even if I could grasp the struggles. By the end, I just wanted them to freaking talk to each other, I mean really, really talk.
