Gareth, yes do some cooking, for inspiration I suggest that you have a look at some of the chef’s that have their own cooking channels on KZbin. I’ve recently been watching a channel called the Back Yard Chef, that guy does a pretty decent selection of recipes for all types of dishes from sausages and mash through to meat pies and soups and desserts. His video today was for homemade sweet and sour pork balls with stir fried vegetables and he also tells you how to switch the pork for chicken and makes the sauce from scratch and how you can make it to keep for a few days so you have a dish another day. You could also try making bread yourself.

I agree - unless you go to decent quality restaurants who use fresh food and ingredients. You can cook better, nicer and more bespoke to your tastes food at home. What shocked me and I didn’t learn this till my 30’s after wasting much £ - was at many of these chains they just use mostly frozen food. Crazy to think what they charge.

Watching you Gareth is like visiting a good friend you're funny, kind and you look after your family and you've created this smashing channel that we all love. You've also done a great thing by giving the booze up and that's a really difficult thing to do but you're getting there and your doing superbly well and we're proud of you because getting rid of a bad habit isn't easy. I'm 70 in a couple of weeks 🙈 and gave up smoking around 1984 I think when cigs went up to £1 a packet and i wasn't gonna give the government the extra tax from that quid plus I couldn't climb the stairs without panting and knew my health would only get worse and giving them up nearly killed me but I've never looked back and it was the best thing I ever did and I wouldn't be here now if i hadn't. It's the same for you - you'll be healthier and stronger than you'd ever imagine and you'll look great but the main thing is your wife and girls will be so proud of you. So here's to a happy healthy life Gareth and whatever you choose to do on your channel is great with your viewers and we'll keep watching you and back you all the way. Spag Bol. 250g beef and 250g pork mince. 4 bacon rashers. 2 big grated carrots. 2 chopped medium white onions. 2 cans Passata. Sliced Garlic. Sliced green and yellow pepper. Rosemary; oregano; and a splash of Worcester Sauce. 2 tbsp tomato purée. Brown the mince and rashers and set aside. Sauté the peppers and onions and then add the garlic. Then combine everything and leave to simmer for 1hr on low. Cook the spaghetti and coat it with the Spag Bol sauce before serving. My hack is to toast bread until it is crisp; then rub a garlic clove on the toast. The crisp toast will ‘grate’ the garlic. Then butter the toast. (Cheaters garlic bread).

I made a similar suggestion on Justdeano's video a few weeks back, theres not really any regular KZbinrs doing scratch cooking and many of us have seen too many documentaries about how dangerous the chemicals in ultra processed food are for us - also I'm an IBS sufferer and i cant take a lot of chemicals and preservatives on board without issues. Scratch cooking keeps these channels unique from each other rather than 4 or 5 KZbin channels seeing the same new item in Iceland at the same time and all reviewing it in the same week. Gets even more complicated when of you loves it and one if you thinks its vile 😁

Hope this doesn't come across as criticism because it's certainly not meant to be. I say this because I have a husband who won't even try to cook. "This" being the following: If you can read you can cook..... this was the case years ago before people had the internet, ie read a recipe book. Now it's way easier....just google a written recipe or watch something on KZbin. At 17 years old I had to grow up fast and become an adult (my mum died) and that included cooking. I have no siblings and it was just me and my dad working as a team, and him basically being my rock for the following 18 years before he died himself. I got my info from cookery books from the library...what I had learned at school was just useless stuff. My husband totally relies on me "I can't cook/ I don't do cooking" I often get annoyed at having to cook every single day (for over 30 years now) and one day I said to him "What would you do if I dropped dead tomorrow?" He said "Aww don't say that" then paused and added "Well I'd have to manage" So basically I have to drop dead before he'll try and fend for himself. He even once said, in front of me, to someone else "If you're not planning on getting married, you have to learn how to cook" (meaning men).To say I was fuming is an understatement. Don't be like my husband (he will be in big trouble if I die first, and it will be all his own fault). You can do it...anyone can. Sorry about the length. Your comment caught my eye for obvious reasons. Just google or search KZbin for something along the lines of "Basic cooking for beginners"

@@dorothycullen7689 It was in the 70s that my cookery lessons were awful . I taught myself. It was just stupid stuff we had to make. 1st thing was hot chocolate, and there was fruit salad...how is that cooking? Don't recall making any proper meals except maybe shepherds pie. Half the problem is lack of time, which is why shortcuts are used now, eg packet cake mix.

Gareth. I have been cooking all my meals for as long as I can remember. Four meals a day, seven days a week. I have thought about Videoing the preparation and cooking process involved, using my various Action Cameras, but having watched the various cooks on KZbin, it would involve a lot of preparation in setting up the various camera angles and taking a lot of time in editing the video, processing it, and uploading it to KZbin. All this extra work has put me off the idea of videoing my cooking antics, which could spoil the finished meals due to the bad timing of the whole preparation and cooking process, not to mention the dangers of getting things wrong! Like my KZbin Motorcycle videos, I get more fun from the actual "riding/cooking" rather than the videoing/editing process! Food for thoughts, Gareth!....😉....😉....!

There's no shame in sharing your journey into learning more recipes. Seeing someone else learn from mistakes actually helps those who are also learning. When we watch cooking shows, they edit the fails, they re-do sections, they aren't honest - when did you last see Mr Ramsay or Mr Oliver burn a pan??? I'd rather see you trying something new and seeing that you (might) get things a bit off, than someone doing the same thing perfectly and raising expectations for all who view. I consider myself a capable cook - I try new things (I made shakshuka this week, for the first time, and it was great!) and have many regular meals that I can make blindfolded (I am OLD!) - but I still fail, I still have food that we eat merely because we have to, not for the enjoyment (thinks back to the fishcakes that fell apart i the pan and had to be spread on toast!)! Give it a try - and take us with you. That way we can ALL learn something, share tips, give suggestions and praise you for each achievement - which will spur you on to bigger things! A new focus that will challenge you might be just what you need, now that you are able to think with a clear mind all the time! It could be exciting! It WILL be exciting!

Yes Gaz, I've said that to you before about cooking 👍🏻 how about making a pot of homemade soup, homemade garlic bread, sausage rolls, Cornish pasties, bangers and mash, with onion gravy, and then you could go on to other countries food's 🤤😋 Have a lovely evening Gaz and family ❤
