I have never seen this happen during an extraction!

Usually by the middle of September the weather has changed and they're gearing up for winter.
This colony swarmed the day before which I put down to a high varroa load. turns out I was wrong and it just swarmed due to a lack of space.

A few seconds later and she popped out.
