I think it goes unappreciated how much research goes into your video, because you are basing your work on actual scientific paper and not just hearsay or websites (Any person in a field requiring research can feel the hours spent looking at papers in their bones and the drying of their eyes), plus the script writing and editing the video you must have spent a lot of time on it. Anyway, it's a really good video and you're funny so you gained a suscriber !

@@ShahabSheikhzadeh You should check out some other vids. He’s not claiming to pioneer research, just like True Crime KZbinrs don’t claim to have solved the crimes, but most of them will eventually cover the same cases. More than one person can (and should) teach things. Being able to explain them shows an in-depth understanding.

I for the past 30 or so years had complex PTSD due to violence and harassment for over 10 years and seeing my father loosing his mind and die from brain cancer when I was between 6 and 8. Needless to say I had a lot of bad years. I used to have maybe one decent day every 2 years, now for the past 3 years every days even the worst ones are better than nearly any of my best days before. What I learned to do: allowing myself to feel the emotions fully, to embrace them in the moment, but keep a critical view on them. Where does it come from, when I'm confused about the origin, is it an emotional flashback from past trauma? I also learned to keep in mind that emotions don't define me, they are a sense, like my nose and eyes, only turned inside. What I do with those emotions, that's me, so I have to keep them in check but not neglect them. We don't freak out when we smell something bad but we don't neglect it either. We know that our eyes can be tricked by optical illusions so we don't trust them 100%, you should learn to do the same with your emotions. When you feel nothing on the surface, usually you are just pushing emotions under the rug, but the crap still accumulate as stress, tieredness, snappyness and agressivity and at one point everything breaks down. This is often that treated accumulation that make days and weeks and years bad, its because you didn't take time to mourn and cry, and feel bad events, and at some point it becomes a big stack of shit under the rug that just keeps pouring in the open at the slightest upset. Only way to stop it is to face it, to face each of these emotional floods with the same questions, where does this emotion come from, is it a bad/traumatic learning experience in the past that I made, is it rational, then take time to mourn what happened one way or another. Crying ultimately is a good thing, this is how we process, just don't let it swamp you, you're still there, good stuff and bad stuff is to come, life goes on. Just wash your emotional dishes frequently and it will be easier to clean that nasty kitchen once the sink is mostly empty.

What you describe is not only a good way to end bad days, but I've been using something similar to it for years to put my regrets to bed. Once when I was young I ended up doing something that I heavily regretted and resented the perpetrator of for many, many years. Sometimes this event would end up in my head again and I would replay it in my head over and over again. And I would fantasise about all the creative ways I would use to take revenge on him. To punish him for what he did. It made me feel embarrassed, angry, and wronged. It was like this until I finally had enough of it and researched on the net until I found an obscure decade-old forum thread about how to stop thinking about embarrassing moments in my past. There were just a few steps to follow. 1. Find a quiet place away from people where you can get some time to yourself and get comfortable. No distractions allowed. 2. Close your eyes, think about the incident, and then face it. Face it head-on. Don't fight your feelings. Don't try to block it off. Bathe in these feelings until you finally feel ready for the last step. 3. Forgive yourself. Yes, YOURSELF. It may have been other people that caused you these feelings. It may have been other people that caused the incident. It may have been something that happened that was out of everyone's control entirely. It doesn't really matter who, what, or why. The reality is the reason you still feel so bad all that time later is because you are holding it against yourself. You _still_ blame yourself for what happened regardless of everything so the key is for you to forgive yourself. And it's easy. Once you have completed step 2. Say, out loud, "I forgive myself". You don't have to give a reason and you don't have to forgive anyone else for it either if you don't want. You are forgiving yourself for blaming yourself. Finally, the last step 4. Once you have finished, you will eventually be visited by these thoughts again. When it happens, remember "I have already forgiven myself for it". Eventually the feelings fade and become less and less frequent. It's been extremely helpful so far.

I needed this. I went through a horrible manipulative relationship, and I blame myself for getting into it, present me recognizes how stupid that was, but past me was severely insecure, desperate and borderline depressed, and I haven't forgiven myself for dating her yet. She was a Pathological liar, gaslighter, and manipulator, and I've now realized after a year and a half I still beat myself up so much over something that lasted a couple months. I realize I need to think, past me was doing what he thought was best, even if it was the wrong decision. Thank you for this comment. It helped at least one person lol

Most of my days aren't amazing, but they used to be worse. We'll see. I've tried fixing the depression in many ways, but my problem is probably purely chemical. Going to the gym isn't something I have time to do currently, but I exercise the minimum at least. But I'd like to have the disposition to end stuff I come around starting. I'm great at starting, but not at finishing things, and I overcompensate by being a completionist in the stuff I can finish. I wake up crappy in mood even in happy days, so I'm used to getting slightly up from it. I've tried everything I could think of: eating early in the night (gets me very cranky in the morning and sets me for failure), waking up early (I miss out on interesting evening events and early morning is my usual bad time of the day), doing exercise before bed (great for sleeping, but not great for doing anything afterwards), etc. I just wish daily I didn't have to take 1 hour per day trying to hold my mood into position. It's very annoying. Why don't I just wake up like Disney, singing to the birds and shit? I rarely get that. I have to park it on neutral and push it every day because nothing sets it off. It's just always there to fuck with me regardless how good or bad I'm doing. I try this strategy of the video daily, but, just as warning, it wont solve for everyone and if you are like me, you'll naturally have to constantly keep yourself adequate emotionally....

On a personal level, I'll say I generally acknowledge that I'm feeling a certain way, and ask myself why I'm allowing myself to feel this way. There's a view of accountablity that says that they only person that can make you feel any type of emotion, is yourself. Others can attempt to provoke or invoke emotional responses, but at the deepest level, we're the ones that allow that emotion to happen. Someone can attempt to invoke a threat response, how we choose to deal with that is up to us. Once the inital response hits the brain, we have to acknowledge that it's there, and decide how to react to it.

As someone that pretty much does what you described in this video and is a very happy person without bad days, it's easy to agree with you. I wish it was that easy for my friends that are absolutely not like this to grasp. I wish they could(would?) try at all to undo 30 years of letting dumb little things ruin their days, weeks or even months, but a lot of them seem unable to let go of the weight of the world on their shoulders. After all we are living on a dying planet constantly on the brink of war, with capitalism-based healthcare prices -- I do understand where they are coming from and when they remind me of this it does take some effort to not feel guilty for having a good day when nobody around you is :)

Excellent channel, excellent advice. There was a song out a few years ago with the lyric "a hundred bad days make a hundred good stories", which in my experience is so true. I remind myself and my kid about this whenever something bad happens to one of us. Almost immediately, we are taken out of our bad mood, because we immediately start thinking about how we are going to tell the story and bam, we are in the creative story telling mood.

Steadily making progress with this work in my own life has been very encouraging. Lately I’ve realized that the work I have been doing is really paying off. For me, one hint that I’m using these skills well is feeling calm and capable while working my way through challenging moments. A mindfulness practice has really helped, and I have come to realize that the calm and collected feeling is very much like those moments in meditation when I feel calm and focused on the work of being present in the moment. I really love the fact that I have learned these things well enough to apply them even when I am really stressed. Just keep taking each moment as it is, very simply, without expectations . Really helps.

Most women I know already do this - we figure out how we're feeling, why we're feeling it, and process it. Men...not as much. It's not their fault, as they're not taught and conditioned to do this like women are. So breaking it down and making emotions accessible is a great tool.

Man, just gotta say that you deserve a lot more views. Found your channel from being recommended your video on butter, and have been enjoying your content. Keep up the good work my dude.

Wow, the content quality vs subscribers ratio is, to use your word, WACK. By that I mean the video is like, good and stuff. I can't imagine you not blowing up at some point if you keep putting out videos like this. Subscribed!

Unlike yourself, most people don't respect the level of effort that goes into this content, nor do they intend to do any actual work to find answers, especially those that may be contrary to what they want to believe. In other words, this content, albeit unintentional, can really make ignorant people almost understand the level by which they are "ignoring" facts to get to the conclusion they feel comfortable enough to wallow in. Sad really...this young man is legit.

idk why but you’re so easy to listen to and take advice from. And even though I may already know that advice, you still make me feel that I never knew it to begin with

I wanna let you know, your message has been received. Well, partially for now. I’ll be re-watching this times to come. Seeking a further understanding as I grow and change as a man. You gave me a valuable tool to add to the kit. I truly appreciate it.

Super content, and fun to watch! I think I've heard this approach called "cognitive behavioral therapy" -- it that correct? I don't know, but it's like stepping outside of your emotions to assess the situation from a neutral perspective. Or something. Anyway, great video!

I absolutely have seen my little sister just stop driving after a blue shell. Albeit she was like 8 and throwing a tantrum.

I'd never heard of emotional granularity until just now. Thank you! I've been doing it, thanks to a good counselor, for about 4 years now, and it's been amazing. But still, that phrase gives the concept so much more substance in my mind! I'm 58, btw, one of those older people who hasn't had their emotional stuff together, but I'm not giving up. I just discovered you a few weeks ago. Thanks for the work you do. Also, loved the quick tip to Simone Giertz, makes the net feel more like a community.

I've been bingeing your videos even when I already know the information. You present ideas and facts in an easily digestible way. Emotional posture... Love that term! One of the best channels I have EVER seen and I watch tons of health-focused videos. Thank you! 💜 I thought I subscribed. I didn't, so I just rectified that. 😉

You are doing a great job! I work with middle school aged kids and I think your young intelligent perspective is refreshing. Mental health-great topic. The more we talk about this and how to support ourselves through difficult times, the better chance we have of preventing suicides and slow suicides that come from addiction and bad choices. Thank you.
