You are doing amazing. I am 43 yrs old and started strongman 9 or so months ago. I am competing nationals next month in Winnipeg. It is my only my third comp ever. I'm excited to see how I stack against the best u 100kg masters in Canada. None the lest I'm excited to just make an national event in any sport. I appreciate all the work and time you put into steongman. I know even on my level it is a lot of time and sacrifice you and your family put in. Much respect 🙏

So glad you made that decision Mitch. I know that you've had every other domain dialled in but your nutrition, you've always had a rather basic approach to it but I think there are a few low hanging fruits for you to pick in that department. Can't wait to see where this change will take you

Regarding that OJ and Greek yog mix... I've been mixing OJ and Vanilla Whey for a little while now. Peak creamsicle flavour, and a great intra-workout shake tbh

Pleasantly surprised! It's refreshing to see one of these vids vs the 'big man stuffing their face' to support the mass/power belly ones these usually turn into. There is a whole life after competition and this will help set up a long healthspan as well as lifespan! I ALMOST wanna try the OJ and yogurt. Sounds gross but also intriguing, haha!

Mate this is great, I compete at the amateur opens level. I'm pretty strong but lack speed in the movement medley and I think that's due to my size. Hopefully cleaning up the edges and tightening up the screws in my diet will help. You're awesome dude. Keep it up 👍

As a type 1 diabetic eating like this would literally kill me. The vertical diet has some great aspects and I get that you need a lot of sugar but that much straight orange juice is straight up crazy for genpop, even if you temper it a little with greek yogurt.

You seem to know... can you explain to me, what "vertical" means in terms of food/diets?? I once watched a video with Efferding, and that did not make me understand. 👍
@SPRVLN27
@SPRVLN27 Жыл бұрын
@hulkthedane7542 it's primarily about using foods which are nutrient dense and easy to digest. So some staples are things like red meat, white rice, chicken stock, etc. And then avoiding things which are difficulty to break down in the body, which can prevent you from getting your next meal in. It's a diet centered around food specificity and performance.
@wickywills
@wickywills Жыл бұрын
@@hulkthedane7542As I understand, the diet is just a way of eating foods that are easily digestible foods rich in macronutrients. And you can scale it “vertically” to your needs. It seems low in fibre though, so good luck pushing it out in the bathroom..
@randomdude71kwnd
@randomdude71kwnd Жыл бұрын
@@hulkthedane7542 Look at the cover of the book "the vertical diet" and you'll see why it has this name. It's just about the way he presents it visually. It's about eating mostly rice for carbs and energy and meat for protein and micronutrients and some other stuff like eggs and salmon for fats and some veggies for fibre and vitamins and other micronutrients.

Surprised at how much of your protein you are drinking, but the Greek yogurt seems like a great add to the OJ Your premade meals don't look, on camera anyway, like they have as much meat in them as I'd expect. I'd want to add one more steak or fish serving and drink one less whey isolate beverage, but I imagine something that fits in a sports bottle fits better into your busy day. All the best and keep rocking it. I like some grainy mustard on my salmon if you want some variety and you can put a foil pack with peppers, onions and broccoli and a pat of butter in with the salmon for some delicious veggies

Monster mash is awesome (I eat bison, can't get enough of it). I started following Stan a few years ago with Brian Shaw - I got lean and mean with it - no "helpers". I followed the vertical diet for 2 years and was absolutely ripped until covid hit then decided to relax more and enjoy the dad bod. I have a Belgian Malinois so we walk over 6 miles a day (10km) on avg - our long day is 8 miles/13km. Also, you can't beat a Traeger grill! Side note... go un-wrapped, it'll taste way better.

If you have high BP, a few things to try are. No mouthwash, no fluoride anything, nasal breathing day and night. Mouth tape at night if you can nasal breath. Ask a sleep doctor for help. Sprinting while breath holding, then recover with nose breathing only. It is a challenge to help generate nitric oxide in great quantities.

I've seen you say how you want to get a bit away from being so "suburban" and you want to get into more things like grilling. I think you should expand that into other many shit. I'm not saying become an expert at any of it, but just dabble and glean what you can. Hunting, building, weapons, fighting, team leading, cooking, therapy, basic medic work, etc. Anything that you feel can make you a better person and possibly leaned towards men but not just dude bro shit. Actual man shit, that makes you a better man in whatever regard you find to be valuable. That would be a dope ass series, and tons of people would watch and more importantly, maybe learn stuff and get more well rounded.

Mr Hooper what are your thoughts on nitrate supplements such as concentrated beetroot shots, as well as eating high nitrate vegetables like arugula, lettuce etc? They have been well proven in running and cycling, but as they improve muscle efficiency and reduce lactate, it may been helpful in strongman to improve duration of max power output?

You should try smoking a whole suckling pig. Trust me, once you make it, you will want to cook another as even before you finish eating that one. I dry brine it for 24 hours, then baste it a couple of times while it smokes with some carolina vinegar BBQ sauce. Start off low and slow, then crank it up for the last 20-30 minutes to get the skin nice and crispy.

I've found thst braised red meat is quite good. A long braise and it's basically predigested. You can do this in an instant pot. Normally red meat is seen as being hard to digest, but braising it breaks down all the fibers nicely.

fully covering the salmon when you have a smoke defeats the point of the smoke. Just put it on the aluminum foil in on the rack skin down. The skin will crisp and at a 400 preheat, the heat will sear, preventing moisture loss. It will pick up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more of the smoke flavor this way.

I want to see you cook that salmon again, but prep it first, put it on, then start it (or start it, but put it on within 10 minutes so it's still smoky). Wait to cover it (if you have to) until 400. You missed all the smoke flavor doing it that way and you're totally missing out, especially with salmon. Hope you see this. Try it once, you'll love it.

Bro, get some honey, chipotle, tiny amount of cayenne pepper, and grind a little bit of zest of an orange (just a little), and brush it onto your salmon to make a glaze. Also, wild caught is superior in every way to farmed. You’re definitely welcome and go win some more!
