You are doing amazing. I am 43 yrs old and started strongman 9 or so months ago. I am competing nationals next month in Winnipeg. It is my only my third comp ever. I'm excited to see how I stack against the best u 100kg masters in Canada. None the lest I'm excited to just make an national event in any sport. I appreciate all the work and time you put into steongman. I know even on my level it is a lot of time and sacrifice you and your family put in. Much respect 🙏

You seem to know... can you explain to me, what "vertical" means in terms of food/diets?? I once watched a video with Efferding, and that did not make me understand. 👍
@SPRVLN27
@SPRVLN27 Жыл бұрын
@hulkthedane7542 it's primarily about using foods which are nutrient dense and easy to digest. So some staples are things like red meat, white rice, chicken stock, etc. And then avoiding things which are difficulty to break down in the body, which can prevent you from getting your next meal in. It's a diet centered around food specificity and performance.
@wickywills
@wickywills Жыл бұрын
@@hulkthedane7542As I understand, the diet is just a way of eating foods that are easily digestible foods rich in macronutrients. And you can scale it “vertically” to your needs. It seems low in fibre though, so good luck pushing it out in the bathroom..
@randomdude71kwnd
@randomdude71kwnd Жыл бұрын
@@hulkthedane7542 Look at the cover of the book "the vertical diet" and you'll see why it has this name. It's just about the way he presents it visually. It's about eating mostly rice for carbs and energy and meat for protein and micronutrients and some other stuff like eggs and salmon for fats and some veggies for fibre and vitamins and other micronutrients.

If you have high BP, a few things to try are. No mouthwash, no fluoride anything, nasal breathing day and night. Mouth tape at night if you can nasal breath. Ask a sleep doctor for help. Sprinting while breath holding, then recover with nose breathing only. It is a challenge to help generate nitric oxide in great quantities.

Surprised at how much of your protein you are drinking, but the Greek yogurt seems like a great add to the OJ Your premade meals don't look, on camera anyway, like they have as much meat in them as I'd expect. I'd want to add one more steak or fish serving and drink one less whey isolate beverage, but I imagine something that fits in a sports bottle fits better into your busy day. All the best and keep rocking it. I like some grainy mustard on my salmon if you want some variety and you can put a foil pack with peppers, onions and broccoli and a pat of butter in with the salmon for some delicious veggies

I've seen you say how you want to get a bit away from being so "suburban" and you want to get into more things like grilling. I think you should expand that into other many shit. I'm not saying become an expert at any of it, but just dabble and glean what you can. Hunting, building, weapons, fighting, team leading, cooking, therapy, basic medic work, etc. Anything that you feel can make you a better person and possibly leaned towards men but not just dude bro shit. Actual man shit, that makes you a better man in whatever regard you find to be valuable. That would be a dope ass series, and tons of people would watch and more importantly, maybe learn stuff and get more well rounded.

Don’t wrap your salmon when putting it on the grill. You’ll actually get smoke flavor. If you wrap it the smoke won’t get to the meat so it’s defeating the point of smoking the meat. Just a little FYI

Mr Hooper what are your thoughts on nitrate supplements such as concentrated beetroot shots, as well as eating high nitrate vegetables like arugula, lettuce etc? They have been well proven in running and cycling, but as they improve muscle efficiency and reduce lactate, it may been helpful in strongman to improve duration of max power output?

Not sure if you mean that Brian's first nutritionist was Stan, but that was not the case. Brian worked with Nathan starting around 2011ish (I could be a year off in either direction) and stayed with him for years. He worked with Stan for a few years before going back to Nathan. @@markedmonds8694 his approach is extremely fascinating. He's done a podcast with Brian (maybe 2 years ago) that is good, but goes more into their history. But you should check out the Table Talk podcast he did with Dave Tate. It's about 4 hours long and talks at length about some of his approaches. I remember him talking about monitoring Martins at the Arnold during one of his goes with the Wheel of Pain and how he checked his blood sugar right before the event, and right after when he was laying on the floor gasping for air and how quickly it went from peak range to extremely low over just that one event. It makes me want to know a whole lot more about that facet of nutrition.
