Assange actually spent an inordinate amount of time deciding, with the assistance of the Guardian, what particular information was too sensitive for public consumption. To say that he did not redact anything is absurd.

Yep, JA worked days and nights to redact. It was the NYT and The Guardian who published before JA agreed for them to go ahead. He told them to wait, but they went ahead and published the story. They set him up. There is a video showing exactly what happened by another Australian journalist who was present with the negotiations. And there is zero evidence for the other stories published that anyone was harmed. Besides they were Deep State assets. Many don't understand what's going on.
