Honestly, the thing that excites me the most about this project is that we're finally gonna have all the HL2 assets remade with PBR in mind, and we're gonna be able to use them in S&Box instead of Facepunch's assets. Since they're community made instead of Valve's, I doubt they'd take them down.
@Ubertheheavy324 Жыл бұрын
It's going to run in a special build of Source 1, so no, these assets won't work in S&Box because S&Box runs in Source 2. Unless they get ported, and knowing the Valve/Gmod community, they definitely will.

I'm actively working on the gman monologue for this project and this is the exact challenge I'm facing. As time has gone on, we've all gotten used to the fidelity and in some ways it can almost add to the emotional impact of certain moment. Should gman sound clear and crisp right after you've been awakened from stasis? Then there's the challenge developing these ideas while not knowing any more about gman than valve has shared with us in the games. None of us know who he really is or where he comes from. What if his dialogue being crunchy and 2000's era compressed is actually cannon? Anyways it's been a lot of fun to play with and I'm excited to share where we end up!

As they've said this was conceived and thought up by the modding community so they came in not expecting to get paid. Nvidia again as they've said is doing a cool thing by marketing their game when mods are solely marketed within their own communities by word of mouth. The key thing is they don't use the word mod and that's what throws people off but it's respectful that they treat the team like real developers. Like these guys came in to do charity work that they were already going to do. The fact nvidia is doing anything at all for them is nice so being expected to be paid seems disingenuous to this kind of arrangement. Nvidia didn't ask them to do anything and now you're acting as though Nvidia owes them.
@automata. Жыл бұрын
What an unnecessarily negative view. RTX Remix is a modding suite that's gonna be a HUGE deal if it works out. Complain about "Nvidia product marketing profits buzzwords" all you want but I don't see anyone else trying to make a tool that can implement pathtracing and full PBR asset swapping into classic PC games. It's revolutionary stuff for the modding scene and you think it's just something that's soulless corporate nonsense I guess. Also, this stuff works on AMD. In fact, modders could add FSR pretty easily to their builds of these future mods because it's open source and not locked down
@omoddulus4933 Жыл бұрын
@@automata. You're ignoring the simple fact that no one asked them to do anything. Hence there is no obligation. That's like if someone mowed your lawn without you knowing then everyone starts guilt tripping you to pay them. But as soon as you pay them under a binding contract that means you can scrutinize them and get more work out of them. This is just complicating the situation which is just "let's do this because we want to." I'm sure the modders would agree.

The only game that made me feel like the first time I played HL2 was HL: Alyx and that's because only Valve are capable of giving us these magical Half-Life video game moments and even Valve require a substantial progress in techology (such as VR and the corresponding HL: Alyx) for them to capitalize on any video games in the Hl-franchise capable of not falling short of the hype. To think a graphics update to HL2 will deliver that same magic is surprisingly stupid. Will it be something nice? Sure, I would think so. Will it be the same as playing Hl2 for the first time? Of course not. Edit: Okay, seeing this is a community-led effort I feel somewhat bad about the tone of my criticism, but my point still stands.

I wanted an idea on what the next trailer should look like - in the first second the camera slowly turns to Freeman, first to the leg of Freeman's suit, and slowly gradually shows Freeman himself to the very top, the end point is his face, the expression on his face shows that he is very angry , he coolly looks to the side, and then the frame pans to gman who is far away from him, and gman says - time Dr. Freeman, are you ready? the camera pans to Freeman, where he simply stares and even more he gets angry, his eyes look sharply, this show ends beautifully with the Lambda sign where it is drawn in half, and the music starts, music by Kelly Bailey - Hazardous Environments, and then they’ll come up with it themselves.

Why not make something entirely new? - I've been there, done that with the mod scene back in the day. This just seems absolutely pointless in doing. Why waste the time you have with creating a recreation, when you can take inspiration and give the masses something entirely new, that's inspired by the thing you're creating from? After all the work has been done for this project. What will it be for? I don't want to play half-life 2 again, personally. I'm sure many do not either. I am a massive half-life fan, but with everything you guy's are doing. Its cool to look at, but even with the higher polycounts, and texture resolutions, and improved lighting and removal of dependencies on BSP for the levels. Its just the same game, even if you trickle in minor additions. Its nothing new, really. What we half life fans really want, is a continuation and conclusion to the story, with an entirely new experience to be interpreted. Not re-lived.

hey jesus, if you didn't notice this is a group of fans, not valve. valve doesn't need to make games, and probably don't want others to make them. i will be replaying if my pc can run it, and there are people with over 1000 hours in half-life 2, i doubt they won't. it's a very replayable game and to this day many people play it

How do you play the first half life rtx? Is it on steam?

Let me guess, you need RTX 4090 to run in at 60 fps and 1080p with DLSS 3? Edit: 23:08 - 24:26. Yep, you know it's bad if it's nothing but dodging, excuses, promises and discussions about how the future tech and AI improvements will help.

you'll probably need something along the lines of 3080 for 1080p 60fps medium (medium-low?) with dlss upscaler. Path tracing is very heavy stuff, so obviously don't expect it to work on budget builds.

The portion on Lamarr reminds me of Todd saying "6 TIMES the detail". Hedy is looking incredible in RTX though.

It was even crazier, "16 times" it said xd

I personally want to see the improved animations and gameplay changes from MMOD make their way into this, so that it can be a full-fledged remake of half-life 2!
