@@emmanuelprado4318 I wish people weren’t so scared of guns. It’s hard to deny the usefulness of one in a life threatening situation where someone or something is trying to kill you. Instead of regulation and banning they should focus on mental health and safety education on them and helping getting rid of poverty. Poverty causes the formations of gangs which causes mass violence. It’s not the weapon it’s the human mind.

There’s hardly any such thing as bad parenting. People’s personalities are at least 50% attributable to their genetics. Even culture and environment are based on other people’s genetics like their impulse control and aggression. Low iq = low impulse control and failure to comprehend long term consequences/morals. Now I wonder which ethnic groups are low iq in Britain…

The woman that said ‘because the kids have nothing to do’…LOL from someone who lived and worked in Camden borough, I can assure you, the kids have EVERYTHING to do. Half of the UK doesnt have anywhere near what the youth of Camden have access to. That’s such an insult to most of the country.. Camden is home to world renowned venues such as London Zoo, The British library, Madam Tussauds, Regents Park to name a few. Then there are the multiple free amenities football pitches, basket ball courts, skate parks, swimming pools (Lido), etc etc. It is an inner city borough with a high amount of poverty but it is hundreds of times better serviced, funded, and full of opportunities than most other parts of the country. It’s because we have lax laws, a weak police force and a culture that absolutely loves drugs. The tourists you interviewed are a prime example, going to Camden Town high Street to party and fuelling the lucrative cocaine market and simultaneously aiding the Reliance on heorin and prostitution in the area. A teenager from the estates can make thousands of pounds a week if they put in the work, and they’re prepared to do whatever it takes to keep the privilege. ‘Nothing to do’…HAH..weak

Where I grew up, we literally had nothing to do, with the exception of a satellite library. Violence was very rare, and when it did occur, it was just fist fights that were broken up quickly. We would fight over something stupid, and then be best friends. No stabbings or shootings, even though we all carried pocket knives, and shot guns in the woods.

On top of not being able to protect yourself outside the Toronto police recently said to keep your car keys visible by your door so thieves can steal them easier. No joke. Also if someone breaks into your house and tries to kill you you are just supposed to hide in a bathroom. You arent allowed to protect yourself. The literal only thing the government here gives 2 shits about is pumping in as many immigrants as possible for cheap labor.

@HotFlushSummer 2 ай бұрын
I’m not sure the normality of it is why our press don’t cover it - it’s because our government have an image to uphold, and sadly, the idea and image of Britain and Northern Ireland having a low crime rate is because it isn’t expedient to our government to even give people from certain demographics a few column inches. I’ve seen better and more sensitive coverage of what goes on in the U.K. in the New York Times sometimes, than any of our news outlets. I hate to say it but unless you’re young and full of promise and did well at school, and better yet, are blonde haired and blue eyed, the chances of even your local paper honouring your life are almost zero. @@adenkunz4747 I’m not a racist at all, I’m just stating facts that in both the U.K. and the US, it’s very rare for most murders to be covered. When I said certain demographics I’m including s*x workers, LGBTQ people, people with mental health issues and addicts. It’s not about race, it’s about presenting an ideal of who we should care about more and in my opinion the average press that people read hasn’t yet changed enough to not be considered racist in that respect. Look at the coverage of certain missing women and children and you’ll know, either from other outlets or your own experience, that there are many equally horrific cases that don’t get covered at all. I don’t think you read my comment properly. Another example off the top of my head is remembering when the South Indian and Middle Eastern doctors, who prop up our NHS here in the U.K., were struck down with Covid in rapid succession, I couldn’t find one paper here in the U.K. that told us anything about their lives, while the New York Times wrote a really moving piece about their lives, families, and the medicine and research they’d excelled at in their own country. They were treated like dirt by their hospitals at that time and our press probably weren’t advised to humanise them, just like our government didn’t. I hope now you see my point.

The self defence laws in the UK are a disgrace. Right now you’re likely to get sent to jail for defending your home if the intruder walks away with serious injuries (killing an intruder would be a life sentence) To answer your last question, yes they don’t want citizens to be able to defend themselves. In UK you can get higher prison sentence for criticizing politics publicly, than for stabbing someone to death (as recent situation proves). That's the problem. As engineer I've learned something important - to solve a problem you need to remove a root cause of that problem. Removing sumptoms will not solve the problem. I wish politicians were better educated and less populistic.

Someone made a research some time ago, where they compared crime rates between countries that had the death penalty and countries that did not. Turns out that people who are ready to shoot you or stab you with a knife don't really care about consequences, and that the prospect of a five year sentence opposed to the death penalty is not something they think of before they kill you. If consequences were a factor that could demolish crime rates, harsher consequences would fix the problem and more countries would introduce harsher punishments. Hell, allow torture in prisons, or give the death penalty for any type of crime. But it doesn't work. In fact, the countries with the lowest crime rates, like Iceland, tend to have no capital punishment
@johncharlton199

We literally have the highest imprisonment rate in Europe. We all have the recidivism rate aswell so go figure 😆. I think the issue of the high crime rate is a little more deep than just, 'lack of consequences' for reoffenders.

I carried when i was younger. I was living in a homeless hostel when i was 16, my job was £3 an hour because of my age, it wasn't enough to cover anything but travel and bills. i Had to fight and rob people just to eat and get toiletries. This was back in 2009 with the recession as it was clear to me i would never own a place. i made dangerous enemies, i never wanted to hurt people, only to eat and defend myself. Before this i almost died living off cheap Tesco noodles. I hate myself for creating victims and i never used my knife so there was no point carrying it for defence as i was just stabbed anyway. I got signed off work for being an alcoholic at just 17 years old i never used peoples money to drink, I always stole the alcohol which wasn't always possible with the food. I have deep regrets. There needs to be hope for young people because at my worse before the robbing i didn't eat for days, i had no toilet roll, no toothpaste, no wash stuff absolutely nothing. All i could think was why should i care in a world that we see me dead as a child.
