Ahhhh.. memories. That was my first Tesla. Sadly, at my weight and age I could no longer get in and out of it easily. I had to go to a Model X due to body mobility issues. You certainly started out with the best ride for a Tesla. It is so sporty and grippy on the road. Geez, it was such a great feeling to drive it! I also miss the portrait control screen. The early Model S had a notoriously bad MMC module that Tesla should replace, so make sure to research that through the VIN. For battery longevity, leave it plugged in every night and set your daily charge max to 60% or maybe 70%. There are many, many videos with varying opinions, but Lithium Ion should not be charged to max too often. Enjoy!

Since he has Theater Mode, that *should* mean he has the MCU2, so the MMC module should have been replaced as part of that. upgrade Nice score getting an older tesla that already has the MCU2 upgrade.

Those early motors suffer from internal coolant leak which can destroy the whole motor and inverter. There are coolant bypass kits that can fix the issue. Take your Tesla to a shop that are familiar with these cars and let them check if the previous owner had it done already. Also you can contact Tesla service center and get a full service history for your car.

So I bought a 2015 model S with 162,000 miles on it last September and I’ve put maybe 15 max 20,000 miles on it. It is the best car I’ve ever driven. It has free unlimited supercharging and I paid about $20,000 cash for it. Did I overspend on it, maybe but honestly it has been one of the best and most reliable cars that I’ve ever had. I don’t necessarily worry about the battery going bad. I personally think that the batteries on Tesla’s last somewhere between 300 and 400,000 miles on it and I can see myself driving that car for at least another five years if not another 10. Do I recommend people to go and buy an almost decade, old electric, no not for most people. For me, it has been one of the best purchases of my entire life and the flexibility of being able to just hop in the car and have it go is fantastic. I supercharge it 100% of the time because I live in an apartment and I charge it once a week Welcome to the family of owning a car from the worst human on the planet. F him. But the cars are great.

Congrats! I also got a used Model S two years ago. A few things: The value of software is often not recognized in used car prices. If a used Tesla has FSD (full self drive), that's a $15K option that might not be in the used car price! If you have native Apple Music and Podcast, your Tesla probably has had a computer upgrade. Very important to check what rev the computer hardware is in a used Tesla. My used Tesla needed a computer upgrade ($2500) to be able to get a lot of the newer software features. (Ended up upgrading it because the entire computer when dead after a few months). For mounting an iPhone, I went with a suction cup and long flexible arm that holds the iPhone higher-up so it doesn't cover the air vents at all. You do have to route the wire around the steering wheel, but I found a mount where I could replace the cheap friction clamp holder with the "head" of a Belkin Qi charger car mount. Lastly, for those that want a warranty, there is one third party warranty company that will issue used-car warranty for Tesla's, most standard used-card warranty companies won't touch it. Broken door handle, which Tesla S is notorious for, will cost like $800 or more otherwise and they cover battery pack replacement if it degrades more than the Tesla stated specs. that's $12K alone to replace the battery system. Tesla navigation is actually nice, once you get used to it. Best tip - figure out how to "share" an address from your iPhone directly to the Tesla. When you don't have to manually enter destinations into Tesla nav, it takes most of the pain of not having CarPlay away.

@@Trust_but_Verify Every car company can do auto lane change and other driver-assist features (or at least they should be able to). FSD is what Elon has promoted as the secret sauce magic of Tesla, I don't think they are there yet and IDK if they can get there. don't get me wrong, still a great car - but nobody should buy for FSD alone or pay a lot for it unless they know what they are getting.

Congrats on the Tesla! I actually got a 2014 model S recently and love it. One thing for the center console you could do is try to find a second gen insert online like the TAPTES insert. My car had the tesla version of this already but there are plenty of aftermarket ones that mimic the official one although they are more expensive than the rubber inserts you were looking at. There also might be similar ones for the rear where the newer model s’s got the cup holders in the back of the center console area.

It might be better to do miles for a bit till you have good feel for the range and how it can fluctuate, then switch to battery percentage. Keep those tires in tip top shape. Know that each person in the car can weigh it down and reduce some range a bit. If you have heated seats, lean on that for your heating instead of blasting heat in the winter. It’s good that you got a 220 outlet, it’ll charge up quick. You don’t always have to charge though, if you have good enough range for an emergency run, let the battery have a break if you’re not going anywhere tomorrow. Like an iPhone, the battery needs to be between 80-20%. Overnight charging on a 220 will definitely get 100% all of the time.

Former Tesla Tech. It's advised to use battery percentage rather than miles because miles is highly dependent on driving habits, commute, temperature, terrain, ect. Percent Tage will give you a more accurate reading to go off of. Also charging to 100% is fine on like road trips but for day to day use its advised to charge only to 85%. Enjoy your new ride.

As a former Tesla Tech you should know, that the range ist just the capacity converted to a distance by a given Consumption Number. So it is actually NOT based on driving habits or temperature.

100% do the percentage on the dashboard. Trust me I did mileage for a couple months and all it did was give me anxiety when I drove about my mileage going down now I charge it when it hits about 20% up to about 80% and just kinda keep it within that range.

I always keep mine on Percentage instead of Miles. For years now all our devices have used percentage to show battery level, so for me it just seems to make more sense. Also in terms of the car, miles can differ based on driving conditions, so percentage to me gives a more realistic representation of how much power/range you have left.

Well, you've got a lot of good advice here. I will add that if you want to prolong your battery to the max, figure out what your average daily drive is and a lot of short charges, like from 40% to 60% for instance, keeps the varying voltage to a minimum and your battery will love you for it. If you don't drive a lot of miles each day, I would keep that max at close to 75% and that's it. Also, if you know you're going to take a road trip the next day and want to charge to 100%, try to time it so that it reaches 100% near the time you leave. You really don't want the batteries to hold 100% too long as that probably what degrads the batteries the most. I would also not let it go below about 20% or 25% on a regular basis, again trying to keep the voltage from varying too much. This kind of care can result in a battery lasting a very VERY long time. 5% to 100% is fine on road trips since they're not everyday. It's a great buy. I hope it lasts you years. Oh, and I come from a technology background and have owned multiple EVs including two Teslas. Lastly, tire pressure! Keep those tires inflated. Something like this rechargeable one is awesome. Doesn't have to be this brand, but this type: amzn.to/3TO4yeF

Cool purchase man. I bought my first one last summer (2023) a new Model 3 and I'm so hooked on it. This car turned me into a Tesla enthusiast instantly. Accessorizing Teslas is a lot of fun. They are like iPhones with how many different types of accessories are made specifically for these cars. Before owning mine I would have never considered "modding" a car I owned before--but with this one you get inspired by what you see on KZbin and online--so personalizing your car will become a thing. Watching this video is crazy to me seeing how the interiors used to look in these cars. The center screen is so much different now. I'm going to bet that since you are a "tech guy" and now own a "tech car" that you too will fall down the rabbit hole. I'll even bet you look into buying a new one within the next year.

80/30 - what Elon said for the optimal battery life extender charging percentages charge up to 80% use down to 30% before recharging. If you have a longer trip, it’s fine to charge 100% or have an anxiety, but the 80/30 rule extends the life of the battery cells, 3x or more. Since it’s been exposed that Tesla lies about battery range, I would go with the battery capacity versus mileage estimates. Track yourself for a while of actual mileage and different scenarios and you’ll get a good idea.

Definitely stick to battery percentage. There is too much variation in range of an electric car compared to a gas powered vehicle. The trip planner takes into account temperature, wind direction and speed, elevation, real-time traffic, battery temperature and more, and the battery you should have at your destination is displayed in percentage. Keep it consistent, don't let the car lie to you with the distance you can travel, stick to battery percentage and let the car tell you where to charge and for how long on longer journeys. It's best when you mentally frame it like the other devices in your life like your phone or laptop. Edit: If you don't know where to put your phone, you should probably keep it in your pocket and do everything on the infotainment system. It's good enough for the vast majority of people.

Any tesla over a Kia is an upgrade! When dealing with an older model you will have to deal with less …cup holders & charger connections .etc.. it’s not NEW!!! But it’s a tesla and you will continually be upgrading … no more oil changes, gas, noises etc….you will save money! I waited a long while till i got my LRMY!!! And i bought it at the high!! I’m not happy about that…..but i will always be happy with my car!… you will learn about the haters who have no clue! They keep thinking we are forcing these cars on them….!! Just enjoy it…. Only charge to 100% when taking road trips….. I’m in south florida……so i hope you have a garage…..that is my one regret>>>. I have a villa with no garage…. When there is a heat warning….i have to pull out my car umbrella… they really don’t know how long the batteries will last…..you may want to take it to tesla to have them look at the condition….& they could tell you! My coworker bought a 2014 model s and he is very happy! The only thing he had to buy was some kind of module..i think he paid about $1200….and the car is fine……yours looks like it was well cared for……so good choice!! Have fun & enjoy your savings!

Good luck. Unlike a gas car, which you can possibly own for several decades and never need to replace the engine. A Tesla is 100% going to need a new battery at some point. I feel its better to buy a newer Tesla and sell it before you need a new battery than to buy an old one and be stuck replacing it for around $20,000

A reburb from Tesls costs 20k$ without a core, 12-15k$ with a core. You can get used ones for half the price of that. Personally I am waiting for someone to do a aftermarket LFP battery. 😅

At 4:50 I notice there was a supercharging fee. It was to my understanding that the free supercharging stayed with the car, therefore other owners will get them for free as well. So curious as to why there was a fee.

Didn't they give free supercharger access to these for life on this car?
@YoYo-be4ow
@YoYo-be4ow Ай бұрын
Yea but some people are exploiting that. There's a KZbinr who bought 3 model S and took out the super charging/transferred it to his 3 Tesla's. He dumped the old model S back into the market.... An average buyer doesn't know anything so he makes his money back, atop of the free chargering. Overall the car ends up being free since they'll use 50k worth of super charging (another KZbinr said that, he said the car paid for itself. He used up 50k worth of super charging since 2013)

Nah I don't recommend it, get a newer Tesla.... My coworker got a 2014 model S with 70k miles. The battery needed a replacement after 8 months which cost $16k. He did that. 1 weeks later the powertrain/power train didn't work/car didn't turn on. They told him it'll be $9k to fix.... He might sue Tesla. It was working when he dropped it off. The repair guy admitted sometimes when you fix 1 thing it will trigger other things to break since it's an older car. The new battery replacement triggered something in the engine to break/not turn on.

After taxes and dealer fees it would have been closer to $8,000 more, and my father-in-law has had a 2014 Model S for 5+ years and it's still going strong. If anything happens will keep you posted!

Well that depends if your going to use $16k worth of super charging... My coworker bought a 2014 because it came with free super charging but the battery died on him. So it cost $16k to replace it. 1 week after that the power train went out. They told him it'll be $9k to fix. So all that headache becuz he wanted free supercharging lol... All together that car has cost him $52k
