This story is disturbing and disgusting. I heard a similar story with a much smarter OP, who actually moved to a place in the US with a particular type of people. When her family and chosen husband agreed to meet at a cafe of her choosing, they met and when her parents, chosen husband and expected in-laws shouted threats and hit her, the patrons, waiting staff and cooks all pulled out guns scaring them half to death revealing that smarter OP had gathered her friends one of whom’s family ran and worked that cafe but also recorded the conversation turned it in to police leading to all of them getting their visas suspended leading to smarter OP’s complete freedom.

Op should have never give another chance with her family they thought her family was changing well guess what it's not I hate it when families force their daughters into marriage I always hated how that tradition always kept doing. Women deserves to have their own freedom and their own will and to choose someone they love. I hate it when men always use women as a slave that's just wrong in my opinion. I hope op and her daughter will find peace of their lives
@marblight2068

with all due respect, i went through so many emotions here where i need to vent for a second. i'm going to preface this with the simple fact that nobody deserves this and frankly i have no sympathy for either of those families, OP's and her husband's. it's disgusting this is still a thing and it makes me angry. moving on from that, however, OP let herself get caught in way too many traps and frankly i think she sympathizes to a fault. she felt bad for multiple things and put aside her safety simply for a family she knew was abusive. the first two times she was tricked are understandable. first they contacted her because of a tragedy, her brother, and sometimes people really do change. i can sympathize with her. but after she was nearly forced into marriage and everything that went down, she should have blocked everyone everywhere and stopped posting on social media. she should have become invisible to basic online research. i find it difficult to believe they kept finding her if she did that. this leads to the second time. she was under the impression her father was deathly ill and sympathized with the bastard. i can understand sympathizing even with the most evil of people but i still have an issue with that second time she went besides that. she didn't take anyone with her for support. and she shouldn't have gone if she couldn't get anyone else to, either. she should have taken into account her family's previous manipulation and abuse and protected herself in case things went awry. then she was blatantly threatened in the hospital. THEN she made a decision that frustrates me to no end. instead of, after being threatened, blocking everyone and all that like i mentioned before, she decided to meet with the man himself IN PERSON. ALONE. WHY? he showed up to your workplace before, caused a scene, showed clear signs of aggression, and you thought you could reason with him? really? everything that happened after this was a DIRECT result of that decision. she had no reason to do this except that she wanted to believe in the best in him. while that's a respectable ideal, the world isn't like that. she has seen firsthand one of the dark corners of the world and she actively went to it hoping for a glimmer of hope that never existed. they didn't know where she worked, they didn't know where she lived, none of that. it frustrates me because there WAS hope. there WAS a way out. and it was in the exact opposite direction of her family. when she was walking into the light, beginning her new life, she looked back and saw her family holding mirrors flashing that light into her eyes blinding her so much that she stepped back into her old life of misery. obviously i know how this looks. i know it looks like victim blaming. and while i am upset at her actions, i'm much more upset by the consequences of them. she should have never been in a position this terrible in the first place. but it's hard for me to sit here and pretend that at least some of her actions, however well-intentioned, were naive and caused at least some of her hardships. i'm glad she got out and i pray she doesn't get sucked back in by lies and deceit, but well my hopes aren't high. someone else mentioned that someone might trick her into doing something "for the sake of her daughter" and i genuinely think that the OP might fall for that. i hope not, but it's a real possibility. every part of me wants her to live a happy life along with her daughter but a terrible nagging feeling keeps pulling at me saying that's not going to happen. you really need to understand me when i say i feel awful for her. for me personally, it hit home due to a friend i have that's like family. i won't say her situation but well, it's similar to OP's. not as severe but similar enough for me to get mad on behalf of a random stranger i don't know. but when i get mad, i try to logic through things and pick apart what to do and what not to do to avoid situations like this happening. OP had the time to do that and at the bare minimum should have blocked her family while she took time to recollect her thoughts. TL;DR it's not OP's fault she went through this but there were obvious things she could have done to prevent at least some or a good portion of it before it even started.

Its culture. Not religion. Islam in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei are not like that where education are important for children to get good jobs and able to survive economically in future. I still remember the culture shock I got when I am exposed how different and twisted when different cultures melded in some religions especially those community secluded. For instant, I believe only Malaysia muslim had tradition of giving money packet during Eid festival to children because we were influenced by Chinese red packet culture. There is another country that shall not be named where their own husband or boyfriend sold their wives/girlfriends to brothel. The ladies own family decided to disown them as they considered dirty. Thats really broke my heart. Thats tradition.

There are still too many places in the world that treat their daughters like this still. Girls are property to be traded/barted to improve the parents life. Westen/European culture basically doesn't have this, but it can still happen even in those countries, hopefully rarely. Many areas of the world, where the culture is male dominated, it does exist. Some of these areas are rapidly changing/improving, but that doesn't mean its gone. In a perfect world, there would be peace between all. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world. All we can do is our small parts in making the world better and hope for better futures for our child and grandchildren. I'll give those basically saying its OPs fault with never having traveled to see some of it on display firsthand. I truly hope

As a Turkish muslim, I can say that this Arabic family is out of their mind!!! Even in Qur'an it states that women and men are created equal, and women actually has to be respected. And another fact is there is a quote in Qur'an that says "the heaven relies under the feet of mothers" meaning that mothers should be respected(not only mothers but women) and because they are fragile they have to be treated with care and love. You can say I'm a feminine person but I'm not. I'm actually a masculine person but I know where the boundary between genderizm and the difference between the two genders and I know where my limits are. Until 15-20 years ago Turkey too had this kind of favoritizm but now even in the most suburbian cities like Hakkari or Diyarbakır you can't find anything like this (I don't know about the immigrants though, they are everywhere in the country(unfortunately)).

Women are still treated badly around the world, forced marriages, castration of female genitalia, and killed for not blindly obeying parents, brothers,husbands. A commentor hear says " there are shelters for these women to go for help" cretin how in all that is holy does she find these shelters while she is locked in a room with no money, food or water? Watched 24/7 until she is forced to marry a stranger who also abuses her. I hope to God that you never have children - you'd raise your son to be just like the men in OP'S life or a daughter you'd raise to expect such treatment.

The DV underground railroad. It's too bad that this type of thing is still needed in this day and age. Having been raised within this tradition, it was hard for OP to escape it's ideas, even balanced against learning of the freedoms others her age had while in school. OP's best bet at this point is to change her name, SIN and her appearance. Then, with the help of the railway, move once again even farther away from where her family and in-laws live. Once you do all that, never look back....don't talk to anyone from your old life, unfortunately that includes the only person who helped you, your old boss. Also, NO POSTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA, that is how they found you in the past, and if they have money it will be no trouble tracking your posts. GOOD LUCK OP.

It's easy to say when you never dealt with something like that. It's easy to say things you have no damn clue on how severe the situation is?!?! "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!" mentality sickens me.

I have zero empathy for OP, it's almost like she enjoyed being abused Instead of going to the police, or the shelters she stayed and married the guy

Bull, she was an adult, police could have had her out of there in no time.

Do we even know what country OP is in. You can't assume that she is safe at a shelter as she is legally married. Many countries have very different and archaic laws. Do I blame her for believing her family no. She has ben conditioned her whole life that this is her station in life that level of brainwashing is very hard to break. She loves her family as blind as it may seem she wanted her mom to be taken care of. I can understand her want to be free plus why she felt trapped, This level of control is very hard to break. I hope she finds peace and love for the rest of her life.

education was legally mandated. plus yk, she mentioned moving to a new state explicitly. not a new country. normally if you're moving from, for example, cuba, to the united states, you say that you're moving to either a specific state, a new country/The States, or something along those lines. the fact she said she was moving to a "different state" implies she was already in the states to begin with.

OP said "she didn't know what to do" umm this might be the American in me but get a firearm doubt they show back up at your house after you pull the gun and if they did they wouldn't come back after a few new breathing holes are made

This story disgusts me on so many levels. The blatant abuse of so many varieties on display in this story is enough to make a sinner become a saint. Truyl disgusting from everyone except OP.

As much as I wish her the best... she earned everything she got by making the same mistake over and over again, doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome is just simply foolish and stupid she what stuck with abusers escaped then gave her self back to them WILLINGLY and got hurt by abusers escaped again and then yet again GAVE HERSELF WILLINGLY TO ABUSERS, honestly what the fuck was she expecting these are simply the consequences of HER actions and choices. However I do hope she has finally learned some basic pattern recognition and will keep both her and he daughter safe from these subhumans and all of her abusers I genuinely hope they die screaming in agony for as long as possible I hope they suffer immeasurable amounts of pain in every way imaginable because that is what they deserve for their hand in this horrifically toxic and abusive situation. While what is moral is subject to change what is right never changes and what both the OP and her family did was objectively not right but the OP is the victim while those families shouldn't even be considered human as their lives are worth less than dirt.
