I Let ChatGPT Play Rimworld

Instead of using my own brain to play Rimworld, today I outsourced the thinking to the Language model we lovingly know as ChatGPT, it provided me with day by day instructions on how to play a Rimworld colony. It went... ok... ChatGPT kind of gets Rimworld most of the time but doesn't seem to have a great grasp on the timescale of the game.
Rimworld is a video game, it's a colony management game and then so much more... This video follows the story of a gang of three colonists with totally normal 'human' diets as they have their every action dictated by the AI machine learning overlord, ChatGPT.

ChatGPT as a storyteller could be a fun concept. Instead of the storyteller just influencing the world events, you had a little chat window that gave you a chance to ask for suggestions, or get you wiped out faster. "Hey, my colony landed in a place with no natural wood resources, what should I do?" 'I got you.' *Sends in a hostile caravan packed with building supplies.* 'Figure it out.'

I would absolutely love a player influenced storyteller that could randomly roll helpful events, threats, or things you can solve in multiple ways based on player prompts - you could even tell it something like "I need more human meat, quick" and you might get a raid - or you might get innocent travellers or beggars you can attack or a trader, or even just cargo pods!

Hey folks, Here's a video I've made for you, check that out. Rimworld and GPT mix in about the expected manner. Publishing this video on a Sunday, which feels a little unusual but according to KZbin Analytics that's when most of my audience is online *shrug*... PS. Minor technical issues on the back half of this video with my recording, I know what caused it now though so that's great, just couldn't do anything about it for this video since it's an issue on the actual game recordings. oh well, it's not that noticable, you probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't said anything.

You can train your colonists with prisoners. Beat them up and then heal them. Also, I think a mod can be done which would let ChatGPT take over communications between pawns. Surely, that couldn't possibly go wrong.

You should try using the Hospitality + Gastronomy mods to create a restaurant serving human meat. Additionally, you can add Vanilla Cooking Expanded to add some spice to your human dishes. You could also use the cloning mod to duplicate colonists and use their clones/offsprings as your food source.

Loved the video, can't wait for more! Long winded question about geothermal generators if anyone could answer: I have a world where I'm running 4 of them that feed into a single power line, which then feeds into and expands inside my mountain base. As I have the lines only running through stone walls (floors are also stone), even when they blow, nothing happens. Geothermals continue making power even when the power blows, (they don't stop for a short time like other generators, so nothing ever turns off) and as long as I'm not using more than their output, I never run out, so I don't bother with batteries at all. Question is, is this is something that's intentional and I've just now figured this out like some sort of noob or is it something they've just not fixed yet? (The reason I didn't have batteries first is because I just made regular woodfire generators and didn't have the resources for batteries. Got lucky with a really good researcher so I started and finished Geothermals before I got more components. Was really unlucky on finding them for a while, in a mountain of all places. -_-)

It would be so interesting to watch an AI that's both capable of making a complex and actionable plan, and being able to act based on that plan. Imagine the creative thoughts and ideas of ChatGPT, the on the fly thinking of actually being able to see the game, and the actions of being an AI that controls the game. Edit: I know that ChatGPT doesn't actually have creative thoughts and that it steals from others, but I get the feeling that's the only way to make intelligence of any kind work. We as humans gather a lot of information and turn it into something we can understand, ChatGPT just does this in much less time and has unlimited access to internet sources.

To be fair, GPT not caring about the morality of cannibalism in rimworld makes sense. To ruin the joke for a minute, Rimworld IS a game, none of it is real, and while GPT isn't TRULY an AI that could know and understand this, it IS a machine learning algorithm and is more than capable of following the "it's just a game" mentality as that's more than likely how it was taught.

There is a mod called RIMGPT which makes chatgpt respond to events happening in-game. You can make him as insane or pissed off as you want from the config menu. A few examples of some interactions: Scared: oh no! >colonist< isn’t resting in bed! We shouldn’t be neglecting healthcare, they’ll get infected! Angry: why the hell is >colonist< resting in bed? They should be working!

Just as a heads up. Zzzt Events require wires to trigger. I only know this because I use a mod that the mod dev didn't notice thats how the event works and keeps my wires underground. I never get Zzzt events because of it

You know... I tried the same thing before i watched the video, my colony was in crisis no food only human body and zero ammunition left cant make more bc no steel and low on chemfuel. I kid you not the first thing that the AI suggest to me was eat the human body or turn them into chemfuel, got so many body from constant raid nearly all of my colonist died only 2 survive out of 9. 1 colonist go berserk and kill the other colonist, you know what triggers this berserk? He ate human meat and watched his friends die and kills his wife he goes this for a few days until he dies because of another mental break because he lost his wife and that's how i lost that run.
