Big Screen Laughs

Күн бұрын

Vincent Benedict (Danny DeVito) learns the truth that he's the leftover genetic garbage from the artificial insemination that led to the birth of him and his twin Julius (Arnold Schwarzenegger). But Julius refuses to stand for the slander against his long lost twin brother!
Twins (1988): Superstars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito team up for twice the laughs in this hilarious box-office blockbuster from director Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters). An ambitious genetic experiment takes the wrong turn when two twins - who look nothing alike - are born and then separated. Years later, the unlikely siblings meet: Julius, a highly educated but sheltered giant with a big heart, and Vincent, a pint-sized hustler with an insatiable lust for women and money. With girlfriends in tow and a hitman on their tail, the newfound brothers set off on a wild, cross-country misadventure to find their mother - but end up finding out more about themselves.

People crap on Arnold's acting but honestly he had some skill. The way he calls the dude dick head was actually good acting. In the movie hes told the doctor is a dick head by one of his fathers but doesn't get what it means so his delivery was perfect because it showed both an unfamiliarity with the word but his face shows he begins to comprehend its meaning as he says it

Twins was actually the perfect movie for Arnie; putting aside the obvious bit about contrasting him with a man who has a wildly different physicallity, the movie required him to be naieve and innocent which worked well for him and his comparatively limited experience as anything more then a giant action movie man. Thus he gained expierience as a dramatic actor and that showed that he could work in other genres.

I used to be pretty elitist and thought intelligence was mostly genetic. Then I tutored SAT prep for a while and realized how much potential literally every single kid has waiting to be unlocked. It's the same early development bias as sports. A kid develops a bit quicker so he is singled out as talented/gifted, gets extra praise and support, extra challenge, self efficacy beliefs, etc. I hope one day education technology allows every kid to maximize their potential. This world would transform. Every city would be like archaic Athens with a glut of geniuses in every field. Some of the physical traits with eugenics have validity; we can probably engineer healthier people. But the brain is so malleable and we can do so much with education that trying to tinker with "smart genes" is missing the forest for the trees.

@@garycoburn1617 that's awesome. I was almost the opposite. I was ahead as a kid and basically never learned how to learn. Flunked out of college. Oddly enough it was the army that taught me how to learn. Physical tasks that didnt come naturally to me, like marching and shooting. My drill sergeant legit asked if I was intellectually disabled. Remedial training was such a blow to my ego. But I eventually figured out how to break down the tasks and became a good shooter. That was the first time in my life I really took pride in passing a test. I guess we're both fortunate we had teachers/systems that forced us to learn. Bc I would have gone to any length to avoid it.

It isn't really explained explicitly (other than one of the 'fathers' from the experiment warning Julius that the scientist is just basically a douchebag, so maybe the way he treats Vincent is just 'how he is') - but I always felt that he blamed Vincent for the failure of the experiment (as if 'being born' was somehow Vincent's fault, lol), and so he harbored a lot of resentment as he saw the existence of Vincent as the destruction of his work/efforts. I'm probably overthinking it, though - I don't think the movie was really meant to be that deep.
