Hey hey!! This is my personal experience with 3 years with the Mirena IUD. I had a plethora of symptoms and yes it was the "set it and forget it" contraceptive but all in all the cons began to outweigh the pros and I had it removed. It's important to research any medication you take or anything you're putting into your body. Some of my friends love their IUD, but I ended up having a much better quality of life after removal. It held me back physically and mentally with my fitness/personal/career goals and I'm back on track!!!
P.S. I have extensions in for this video so you can't truly see how thin my hair was at this point

This made me feel so seen. I got mine taken out yesterday after having it for nine months. I developed the same symptoms with the nausea except I still gained twenty pounds - my heaviest weight ever- even after hiring a personal trainer and doing meal kits and calorie counting. I got tested for food sensitivities that came back normal. I got a recurring skin rash that no one could explain and wasn’t taken seriously when I told them the first instance was a week after getting my Mirena. I was ALWAYS bloated. Cramping on and off my period. Longer periods, though they were lighter. The anxiety was the worst though. It totally pushed me over the edge after this last month of getting them for absolutely no reason. My brain was foggy a lot. I didn’t feel like me and I couldn’t be present. I do worry about experiencing any kind of crash, but so far I feel so much more alert and I’m not bloated for the first time in forever! Sooo glad I got it out.

I started sobbing when you brought up the death thing. I've had my IUD for almost 2 years and I noticed a steady increase in my anxiety after the 1 year mark (have generalized anxiety already but never THIS bad) then all of a sudden about 2 months ago I started getting dizzy and nauseous all the time and finally the obsession with death set in. I can't get it out of my head. I'm convinced it's the IUD. Thank you so much for sharing your story, this makes me feel so much better. I will be getting this removed asap!

My experience was not the same as yours but it was horrible. I just got it out today. When I first got it I all of a sudden had horrible migraines 3-4 times a week, got massive anxiety that never went away and gained about 25 pounds. I just got it out today but when I was there the dr scoffed at me too saying it couldn’t be the Mirena. I was so annoyed! She also kept trying to push more birth control on me. They need to get a clue and listen to their patients. Clearly a lot of us are having symptoms on Mirena that we aren’t supposed to have.

@angelcao1669
@angelcao1669 3 жыл бұрын
@@veecardenas9203 I felt that I was not myself, extremely anxious all the time, sometimes I was even scared of looking myself in the mirror. Basically, constantly felt like there was a dark cloud over my head. I also asked the doctor to run a couple of tests too and they all came back normal. However, those tests are not going to tell you whether your body is ok with those hormones that are in the IUD. I think of this as allergies. For example, no matter how much milk I force myself to drink, it will not change the fact that I am extremely lactose intolerant, it probably will make my stomach even worse. The same thing with those hormones, if my body is not ok with them, no matter how long they are in my body, my body will not magically be ok with it. I've done a lot of research and they all show that IUD does cause all sorts of mental problems especially the Mirena but unfortunately, doctors will never admit to it. I guess it's easier to put IUDs in women that will make them depressed than teach guys to always use condoms.

Same. I’m 44 and a single mom of 2. I had the Mirena for 3 years. From the beginning, I had migraines for almost a week/month. I was perpetually bloated in my abdomen. Sharp pains in my cervix if I moved just so. My period stopped completely after 2 years. That’s when the headaches amped up, along with fatigue ...and the kicker ...the deepest, darkest depression ever. And my blood pressure was elevated. That’s when I knew it had to come out. I removed mine myself, but I also had two kids with no pain meds, so I’m a bit of a badass. I don’t think this thing has been around long enough to know how it affects women (especially women who are sensitive to hormonal shifts).

I can relate to a lot of what you experienced, my husband finally suggested that my IUD might be causing a lot of my health issues. Severe bloating (despite a clean diet and daily exercise) nausea, vomiting, severe fatigue, loss of interest, depression, moodiness and anxiety. I had it in for 2 years! Thank you so much for sharing, if it wasn’t for all the women I found having the same or worst symptoms (and all the doctors undermining the relation with the mirena, same as it’s happening to me), I know I’d have somehow really lost it. Also, it’s very peculiar the repetition of the death related sensations that many women are telling, there’s something really off there and, all the specialists, who are the people we should trust, specially under such vulnerable circumstances, are kept in denial. I’m only 24 and I’ve been having (for the first time) panic attacks and thoughts, that makes the sensation of being on an ongoing death process very close to unbearable. I’m gonna remove mine on Tuesday, until there I honestly can’t think about anything else. Thank you all again, sincerely.

I've been on 2 mirena IUDs, for 8 years. I have been struggling terribly the last year and I chalked it up to stress from the pandemic. But I've been struggling for a long time. With depression, ZERO patience like my mood will flip like a light switch to the point I've thought maybe something was wrong with me and I needed to get help. I feel like I've been not myself for a long time.. I struggle terribly with anxiety that is getting worse and worse and having panic attacks when it's something I've never struggled before with in my life. I'm struggling with depression, mood changes, anxiety, panic and excessive food eating which has never been a problem for me. Ever. I think it's time for me to get off of it and try to find a better birth control to prevent pregnancy because I don't want more children but I also think that the mirena is not what I need in life.

Made the appt to have it removed in June 2024, wish i could get it removed sooner but that was the earliest available appt, “allegedly”. **eyeroll Thoughts of death I’m also experiencing. Wish docs wouldn’t just sweep possible side effects under the rug and brush off their pts concerns. Glad you’re feeling better!

Wow, I had mine removed a few days ago. I've been having issues for over a year now. My iud was upside down and it took them almost one hour to extract it. The only side effects I'm having since removal are nausea and minor cramps (I had a ruptured cyst as well). My anxiety is gone, my back pain is gone, no more shortness of breath, and I have more energy. I had no idea that all of this was being caused by my morena until I started doing research.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My gynecologist recommended the use of Mirena because I suffer from endometriosis and adenomyosis. I used Mirena for 7 months, and throughout this period, I experienced cramps, breakthrough bleeding, and gained 8kg in 3 months without changing anything in my habits. My belly was constantly bloated, and I felt more tired than normal. Additionally, my memory was terrible, I had a lot of acne, and my skin and hair became oily. I had to change all my personal hygiene and skincare products to those designed for oily and acne-prone skin. Due to all these side effects, I decided to remove the Mirena. I did this 6 days ago, and since then, I have suffered from terrible nausea, spending the whole day wanting to vomit, and experiencing super heavy bleeding full of clots. I hope my body returns to normal soon, as I'm feeling terrible.

It literally felt exactly like a contraction so you are spot on when you said that. I also have an insanely high pain tolerance I didn’t even feel my contractions until I was over 6 cm dilated but I felt when they put that in and it hurt for a few hours.

Honestly I could cry I’m overjoyed to know I’m not the only person experiencing this. I just had my baby four months ago and I thought I have postpartum and Im constantly so exhausted it hinders me from being my best self for my son due to the fatigue , extreme headaches. Random panic attacks and crying and feeling hopeless and like I’m gonna die. The death thing kept coming up my heart would beat so fast and my boyfriend honestly could’nt talk me out of the panic and sadness. My neck would get stiff and I would not be able to eat without wanting to puke. This video and the comment section is just convincing me that I have to take the kyleena out. I never was battling with depression or ever understood anxiety and I honestly was so thrown off and felt like I was losing my mind. I talked to the doctors and they were saying postpartum but I felt great after my child I was so happy to have my body back. But then the iud came and I’ve been so miserable. Thank you for this video thank you.

Hi There - I know this is an older video but I had a mirena fitted January this year after my 3rd section , I didn’t do much research ( stupid i know ) and finally after 4 months of hell I’m getting it removed , the tension headaches , the consistency of constant down moods coupled with a death in the family made me on the brink - I was putting it off as I kept kidding myself about the outcome - but to be honest I’m so nervous for Thursday it is in the day I’m in Mat leave and felt enough is enough . I live in the uk and they take it out no questions asked usually once I mentioned a list they agreed to give me this appointment. Everything you have said is unreal , I have almost every symptom - the death thoughts and the hairs on my neck it’s embarrassing- I’m wondering if anyone got the crash that everyone is talking about ? I’m scared of that as at the moment I feel very edgy as it is - much love x x x x

The Mirena iud was a nightmare for me. I had mine for 5 years and I was younger. When the Mirena was removed I supposed to have my periods again but it was removed in 2013 and we are in 2021 and I never got my periods again. I gained weight, my breasts grew so much, loosing hair, depression, horrible lower back pain, mood changes. It has been horrible for me. I hope you feel better.

These sound exactly like my symptoms. I had a “ruptured ovarian cyst” about 3 months ago and they said pain would go away but it has persisted with horrible lower back pain, Nausea, lack of appetite (lost 10 lbs) and tons of GI issues. Been doing tons of blood tests, GI tests and same thing....Everything is coming back “normal”. Tons of anxiety and depression as well (which hasn’t happened to me before-it’s so awful). Strange thing is that I’ve had the IUD for a couple years so I couldn’t imagine now it’s causing issues. Doctors are saying it’s probably not it since it’s been so long but with all these tests coming back “normal” I feel like it’s the IUD. Did you do any hormone tests or anything like that? Did you feel this way all 3 years or a few years into it? I’m beyond over the medical system 😂 and I’m sick of doing all these tests with no results. Appreciate any info you could provide. Thanks!
@meganvictoria321
@meganvictoria321 4 жыл бұрын
Right!!! I was getting so exhausted with all the tests only for every result to come back normal, I’m like THIS IS NOT NORMAL! I felt like shit every day. When I first got the IUD (and when I was on the pill) I just started noticing my emotions flatlining, like I was just kinda grouchy all the time and the nausea started. I was really frustrated but when the anxiety started around 3 years with the IUD I could like barely function in everyday life I was like I gotta get this thing out of me!

I’m horrified that this thing is still on the market. I recently had one forced upon me by a gyno who refused to listen to me when I brought up my previous bad reaction to the contraceptive pill. He blatantly ignored my history of hormonal migraines and drug intolerances, and railroaded me into having a Mirena for period control. As soon as I got it I began to feel depressed, lethargic, had no interest in anything, and was suffering from bleeding and cramps 10x worse than the ones it was supposed to treat. About two weeks in I had a night where I was FRANTIC and in tears, just wanting it out. It felt like I had an alien parasite in my body. I even tried to remove it myself, but couldn’t do it. The next morning I hotfooted it to my GP and told her I would get down on my knees and beg her to remove it if that’s what it took. I felt on top of the world as soon as it was out. Yes, there was a crash, and the worst flu-like symptoms I’ve ever experienced - but I felt like *me* with flu rather than a total stranger. Your story resonates with so many I’ve seen, and with my own experience. The medical profession are brainwashed into believing the company line and most refuse to even acknowledge the possibility of side-effects. Women are being treated like children and gaslighted into accepting these damaging devices, and it’s absolutely disgusting the way we’ve been treated.

I had my second mirena for 4 years. First mirena never gave me issues. I decided to have it taken out after I had a bad run with Anxiety for the last few years. Figured out it was the Mirena, after no anti-anxiety medication would work. Always had resting anxiety, regardless of what was happening in my life. Apparently progesterone slows down your GIT, and can cause underlying anxiety as well as migraine’s, these are all listed as potential side effects. Had mine removed at the beginning of the year, and I am feeling a lot better now. Had instant relief from anxiety after the removal. Still struggling with low energy, and loss of libido, hopefully this will recover.

I had a kyleena for around 3 ish years when I was like 15- 18 and I got it removed recently because it moved out of its place, I was feeling great before I got the Mirena, I had no anxiety from the first iud, periods stopped after a month of having iud, I have barley any acne, I was happy more. But last month April 6th I got the Mirena and I regret it, I want it removed but everyone is like don’t! Like I know I should listen to myself but it’s also like I got an iud to help with painful period cramps and heavy periods from before I had a iud. With the Mirena and it only being a month a few days after getting it placed I had one of the worst panic/anxiety attacks and even when I was diagnosed with general anxiety when I was younger I have never had that type of anxiety. I literally went back to the gyno a few days later and was like this happened and this happened and she was like “it has nothing to do with the iud, there’s no connection between the iud and anxiety” I was like, are you kidding me? So this is just a coincidence that it happened immediately right after I got Mirena? I have been researching and seeing a lot of people are experiencing the same thing as me, along with getting hives? I’m not sure if it’s from anxiety or stress or the iud but I’m thinking the anxiety is from the iud, causing me hives. I’m so not myself, I have had feelings of wanting to die because of the low motivation and feeling like no one cares or thinks I’m lying. It’s been really tough this past month and a half. I want it removed so bad but I also don’t want to deal with a period… I also tried multiple birth control pills but never helped until I had my first iud, kyleena. I was given a Mirena on accident without me even knowing and I was pissed, I wanted the same one I had before but I didn’t get it. what do I do?

Either directly or indirectly, because the IUD changes our hormones which directly mess us up-- plus I didn't realize until recently that all birth control causes nutrient deficiencies. So if your body can't absorb B12 for example you can get really dizzy

Don’t feel bad about not being able to take the pill. That was the first one I wanted to try but I have pretty severe ADHD even when medicated I am very forgetful so my doctor basically told me that that one probably would honestly work against me. I’ve had a lot of people give me crap for it but honestly if you don’t take that pill at the same time every day it is not effective. The only person I know who’s on the pill is my sister and she is really good at remembering to take it so it’s worked for her. I was on it when I was really young to regulate my periods and it basically made my periods worse because I would constantly forget to take it and just basically constantly get my period. I would not be able to deal with that now as well as I’m in a relationship and me and my husband currently do not want any more kids yet. But you’re definitely not lazy for not wanting to do the pill anymore. There’s negative side effects to all of these birth-control‘s even the pill and the fact that you’re able to do it for four years you should be proud of yourself! I seriously think they need to look at women birth control and fix a lot of things. I’m at the point right now where I just got mine taken out and I honestly just wanna get a hysterectomy. But I want to have more kids in the future so that’s out of the question until then. Being a woman seriously can be annoying sometimes.

I had Kyleena for 11 months and just had it surgically removed last week because the strings recoiled and they couldn’t get it out in office. Getting it wasn’t fun either in terms of the pain, and while getting it they were able to find a 10 cm ovarian cyst. With the IUD I had the worst anxiety and depression. Insomnia, moodiness, scared that I was going crazy. Dark thoughts that I’d previously never had before. So much crying. I went from being an overall happy go lucky person to a ball of nerves. I don’t believe the pandemic helped, but it seemed to come out of the blue about 4 months after insertion. I bled and had awful cramps while I had it too. Really wished it could have worked for me, but my body just doesn’t do well with this kind of thing. Other than insertion leading to finding a cyst which I got removed, it made my life really difficult for that entire time I had it in. Immediately after removal, no cramps atall, however I do think I’m going through a bit of an iud crash from the lack of progesterone now. Just wanted to share my story for others to know they aren’t alone if they’ve had a terrible experience. We’re in this together :).

I had the worst and most scary situation with my mirena. I had one for 5 years from 2009 after I had my son till 2014. I had zero side effects and so I went to get a new one and the next day I almost passed out at work. I had it removed 4 days later because I was straight up feeling like it was poisoning me. So for the next 7 months I had severe symptoms. Horrible dizziness and balance issues, numbness in the face, fingers and toes, anxiety, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and tendencies, pressure in my head, blurred vision ect....I went though hell and back and almost took my own life. I did a life changing cleanse at the beginning of 2015 that took away 90 percent of my symptoms but I was still severely dizzy for almost 3 years. Everytime I would have my doctors test my hormones or do any other tests they would always come back and say everything was normal. August of this year I finally went to a naturopathic doctor and they did a hormone saliva test on me and found out I have basically no progesterone in my body and I'm pre menopausal. I'm only 32 years old! These devices are so dangerous! I stay off birth control also and I'm so thankful I chose that route!

So within the last 6 months or so I started eating more red meat and high quality animal products but specifically when I introduced the grass fed beef + liver (tastes so metal-y so I get capsules) it made a *_huge_* noticable difference! my mental clarity is like a 180 degree difference. Sophie, hi. I hope you are well after you got it out. There are the side effects of when you have the IUD, and then there is the "Mirena Crash" - which are side effects after your IUD is removed and the body is trying to adjust itself. My daughter is 20, had the IUD for 1 yr and due to anxiety/depression/ putting on 30 lbs we realized it is because of it and she removed it 2 mo ago. Since then the physical symptoms are better, anxiety a bit better, but she is horribly depressed - but many girls/women don't get this crash after removal - you might be among the lucky ones :). I'm still researching what to do to help her - no doctor even mentions this (or worse, they laugh at you). So far I see that after removal there are heavier periods so you may be anemic (need to take a bit of iron) and also that a vitamin B complex helps to restore hormonal balance. Im still researching...Just know that it is not your fault, it is a real problem! Be well!

Whoa whoa whoa, I have an iud that is now old and coming out. But I have also had 3 sons naturally . I’m not trying to be rude but you can’t compare your pain to labor and delivery pain. I did have allot of pain with the insertion of my iud , but nothing compared to my iud. I have had a miscarriage where I needed a dnc to end the process and save my life. That cramping is what it felt like to get an iud inserted. You have no idea so you really can’t comment on morning sickness and labor pains, and I say that with the upmost respect.
@meganvictoria321

first of all you're a rockstar for having 3 natural births!!! and I"ve heard from other women and doctors that when you have never had children, insertion of the IUD is way more painful compared to insertion if the woman has had children. my hormones were thrown off so badly that no matter what I ate I felt like I was going to vomit and if I got too hungry I also felt like I was going to vomit so my friend who was pregnant at the time said how I was feeling was very similar to what she was experiencing minus the fact she couldn't keep anything down until she was given Zofran.

My story! I had mine dec 21, 2018 and I took mine out by myself Jan 4, 2019. 1st off I like to keep it short and to the point. Insertion feeling: quick 5 sec sharp stab to my insides. 🔥🥵🤯 never again. Removal: did what everyone before me did relax & pull the strings nice and easy & no pain. I did it because (bad cramping here and there even after taking ibuprofen 800mg) I knew and felt the Mirena (your not supposed. Like it’s not tiny like the doctor said it was) nausea, bloated, spotting, acne. Mostly bc of bad bad bad cramping. After the removal I felt so much better, I had my period, but I just keep having it :/ maybe it’ll go away soon. My mother in law has an IUD, over 10 years - 5 years a go she went for a check up and said she wanted to remove it. the doctor refused and was like no, it's fine - we don't need to move it. Please note, my MIL does not have a cycle anymore, the dr forced her to have an IUD because her cycle was ending and hurting her, not sure how it is connected but never mind. Anyway, fast forward another 5 years, turns out the IUD is now missing (it was probably already missing 5 years a go), and moved into her abdomen. She started having frequent UTI's, doctor's did not understand why, most medicines did not work on her, damaged her kidney's. Every time the infection would leave after being in the hospital for 2 weeks and taking daily antibiotics via a drip - only for it to return again after 2 weeks (after a 10 day course of antibiotics) so I figured it must be something else that is causing it. Somehow we started to talk about gynaecology and she mentioned she had an IUD and the dr refused to remove it . I did some research and found out there are more women who faced the same issue as her. Unexplained infections, that do not stop - even after antiobiotics. Only when they removed their IUD they were finally better. Now we are working on trying to find out how to get it out of her.

Yes all the doctors just dismiss our issues it sucks :( they tell us what they've learned in school, it's all part of the system. They really don't care if we're having issues because they make money when they give us medications/devices. I've been bc free for a while and feel so. much. better!!! I feel like I wasted a decade of my life being on different forms of birth control with all the nausea, brain fog, being in a bitchy bitter mood all the time, the list goes on ugh

Here's the forum community.babycenter.com/post/a30664903/mirena_and_anxietypanic_issues?cpg=3 I'm sorry to hear that, It took a couple months for me to feel like myself again but I'm 100% birth control free now and loving every minute of it!

@@meganvictoria321 Thank you. The only reason I got this stupid thing is because it was recommended by my provider to help control the bleeding of a 4cm fibroid I have...which it is doing its job as far as that, but I'm having too many complications to keep it in. I'm also having the nausea, fatigue, extreme back pains, ect. But let my dr tell it, none of those symptoms are caused from the IUD😐. Thank you for the info and good luck!
