Jordan was averaging 39.8ppg in 12 games against Detroit, before they instituted "The Jordan Rules." Which basically, was just to mug him any time he got in the paint. In the playoffs during Detroit's back to back championships, the Pistons were 22-2 in the playoffs against all the teams NOT named Chicago Bulls...against the Bulls, they were 8-5 in those championship runs. People act like the Bulls just came on the scene in 1991...but they were in the mix as early as 1989. 1990 was there first true championship contender season though. They took Detroit to Game 7, but Pippen buckled under the pressure and gave us "The Migraine Game", that rendered him useless on the court. Pippen was 1 for 10 from the field, and scored just 2 points. The whole team shot like trash, Jordan was the only one who showed up. Jordan had 31 points on 13 for 27, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Minus Jordan, the Chicago Bull made just 15 of 63 FGs, for an awful 23.8%FG. There's a little history lesson for you. I started watching the Bulls in 1986, and watched as many games as possible. Jordan in the 1980's was an absolute beast.

However, James Harden is the only player since MJ to scored near that 3,041 mark with 2,818 points but he did it with '378,' 3-pt shots. That's why the NBA had to change RULES drastically to make players look like they can score like Mike. When you look at the 4 seasons where he was shooting about three 3 pointers or more per game, his 3 point percentage was: 37.6, 35.2, 42.7 and 37.4%. So yeah...anyone who says MJ couldn't shoot from three is not being truthful. He could shoot from deep and do so at a pretty good rate. He just chose not to for the most part. BTW...Lebron's has a career 34.4% from three. Kobe's is 32.9%. Those 2 spent most or all of their careers shooting at least 3 three pointers per game. They used it as a weapon. MJ didn't, except for those 4 seasons.

The way you grew up with Lebron is how I grew up with MJ, had the AJ1's in 1985 as a kid watched every game I could (harder to do without internet or any DVR). One thing I'll always say, I wish this generation could've watch Jordan games live, and known what it was like to see a kid in school with Jordan's on. When I was in school, 2 or 3 people had Jordan's because they were hard to get. You might get to the store on the day they release, and they would be sold out. Then you drive 2 hours to another mall, and they were sold out. No internet to buy stuff instantly. One thing people can do (if possible) is, check out the NBA a few years before Jordan got there (the top teams, stars, stats, conferences, playing styles etc.) then look at Jordan's development up until he transformed from the battles with The Bad Boys. Checking out things like that puts a lot of things in context. Also, you can check out the careers of the other stars in the league, see who Jordan was going against (how good they were, the obstacles he had to face while playing 80+ games every year). I was born in 1978, so I know a lot about MJ. To explain how he plays basketball is very similar to Ja & Kyrie with their crazy dunks, finger rolls and lay-ups. He also possesses the mid-range game similar to Kevin Durant. The "Bad Boy Pistons" had no other choice but to make some sort of an adjustment to guard or hammer Michael Jordan every time he had the ball close to the net or in the paint. You can also consider that the 3pt line was adapted by the NBA in 1979 and the NCAA in 1986. So players like Magic, Bird, MJ etc weren't really practicing the 3 early on unlike the kids today.
