@@411Outdoors as an older Japanese Jujitsu practitioner, (lots of Katana/Wakizashi/Tanto training) the first thing I do with my new knives is remove any clips from the sheath and convert it to a static line sheath. It’s easy, just run paracord through the sheath and use a Double Fishermans knot (it must be a Double Fishermans knot for safety don’t use any other knot and no it’s not a knot that’s used much in fishing) to make a large adjustable loop. This makes the sheath a static line carry sheath. The loop can then be lengthened or shortened as required by moving the knots (pulling on the line has no effect on the length). Now simply take the line and wrap it round your belt or a belt loop or around your waist or shoulder. Once tied to your belt etc just put the sheath in your waist band. When you wish to deploy your blade just grab the handle and pull and it’ll automatically deploy and the sheath will still be attached to your belt. The advantages of static line carry are that it’s much much more comfortable than a bulky clip, and that the knife can be moved around the waist band on the fly extremely quickly when moving or sitting etc to maintain comfort. It’s easier to conceal the knife. It’s easy to place the blade centreline and easily deploy the blade with either hand. Deployment is also very very quick as the knife can be deployed in the direction of your attacker. It’s also much easier and safer to sheath the knife as you can see it and use two hands to sheath it. I’m sure if you search static line carry or something there must be a video on it. It’s a very old method that’s been used by the Japanese for hundreds of years now. I hope you do get a chance to try it, as people I show this method almost never go back to clips again.

@@faithwilson3150 This is some really cool information. I greatly appreciate it
@faithwilson31502 жыл бұрын
@@411Outdoors I really hope it is useful to you. It’s so much more comfortable, it’s safer and it’ll allow you to deploy the Kobun much faster. I think a static line carry sheath is actually very appropriate for this knife as it’s a Tanto with a Japanese name. The Japanese have been using static line sheaths for carrying the Tanto for well over a thousand years. Kobun (コブン) is Japanese slang referring to the rank of soldier in the Yakuza. A Yakuza (also called bōryokudan or gokudōgang) boss is called Oyabun meaning “boss” literally “parent status” and their followers are called Kobun meaning “apprentice” or “protégé” literally “child status”. The Yakuza (meaning “good for nothing”) still use samurai like rituals and training. They are thought to have been formed and descended from Ronin (masterless samurai) during Japans feudal period, which started in the late 1100s. I was right as well,…there are KZbin vids on the static line knife carry method. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKKaZqp5nKaXarM This was the top hit and he probably shows and explains it better than I can by writing to you. P.S thanks for the great video, I’ve liked and subbed!

Okay, to loosen that sheath, put the knife in, make sure its all the way, then using a hair drier set on high, heat up the sheath, until it gets "Pliable" then work the knife in and out of the sheath, it should loosen up a bit. Also check to see if the bolts holding the belt clip on, are effecting how tight the sheath is. And I just ordered one :)

I had the Kobun until my second to youngest daughter decided she needed it more than I did. I didn’t mind too much, since the handle is a bit small for me. I’ve still got my Master Tanto, my Magnum Tanto II and my Magnum Tanto XII. LOL! I’m a habitual knife buyer. So I’ll probably be getting another Kobun eventually and the Recon Tanto. It’s really hard to make a bad purchase with a Cold Steel. They’ve always tried to make top notch products. They don’t always use the latest and greatest steels. But nobody makes them as solid as Cold Steel.

@@411Outdoors Since you like the size of the Kobun. You should at least get a Master Tanto. They don’t have the full oval guard like the Magnums and the feel in the hand is really exceptional. They feel really lively in hand. The Recon Tanto’s are super nice though. They basically have the same handle as the SRK. My old SRK got a lot of use out in the woods. I never had sore spots on my hands from using it. I think Cold Steel is upgrading all their premium Tanto knives to 3V and won’t be using San Mai III very much longer. You might be able to catch the Master Tanto or one of the Magnums on sale on Amazon. Good luck and keep doing what you do.

Have you tried flipping the belt clip upside down so it pulls against your belt instead? The knife may be backwards though but if you put it on the other side of your body and do a cross draw itll be straight again. (Downside of asymmetrical knifes) The clip could be strong enough to hand upside down with no extra force, you need the strength the other way. Maybe manufactures should think about this instead of just trying to make the clip stronger and stronger. It would also help if the clip was squared off and not a ramp so it gripped the belt at a little 90 degree.

Good afternoon buddy. You had me at tanto! 😂. Seriously though, think back to those round tip buck knifes you had as a kid. After a bit of use, the straight portion was always sharper than the round tip and no matter how hard you tried, you just couldn't make the round bit a razor blade. A tanto goes from straight edge to straight edge, much easier to maintain. For daily precision tasks that require a finger along the spine, there's very little learning curve in terms of technique, example cleaning a fish, chopping vegetables etc. The ease of maintenance easily outweighs an adjustment in technique. That particular example might present some challenges simply because of its large size, but for heavier utility tasks, (kindling) and of course combat, it has distinct advantage. In terms of the sheath movement making the draw harder. Paracord my Friend! I typically carry a couple of six foot pieces anyway. You can certainly use one to secure the sheath to your belt. The only downside is it takes longer to change into a fresh pair of pants. 👍

I wanted to buy one, for 70$. But i am not sure if this shape tanto blade is practical for bushcraft/survival. For example, with bowie, you can drill hole if you need. But not with tanto. Tanto is mostly combat blade.

Why would you throw your weapon away?

Rarely would actually but not against throwing a knife if it’s a good shot and it’s not Ge only one I have. I’m thinking knife throwing is very rare anyway. I just like knowing how to do it mainly. That is satisfying enough haha

That'll be fake for $28 AUD. Genuine one is closer to $100 AUD.
@ISRAELITE.ZEBULUN Жыл бұрын
All are made in Asia. So even if it is fake, months later it is worth the money, keeps an edge really well, and I use it everyday. As an old bloke that has over 30 knives, some cheap, some expensive, for the money it is money well spend. And if you look at the line of CS knives, most are not made in the USA. Although I did by it off Ebay, I don't mind if it would be a fake. Now I own a Muela Bowie, the one from that film, and I would be unhappy if that was a fake, hence I bought it directly from the manufacture, a $28 knife not so much, but believe me, I give the knife a 10 out of 10, fake or not. Hope that helped.@@aaronjames7266
